(CNN) - A fierce critic of President Barack Obama’s sweeping health care initiative, Rep. Michele Bachmann said the law would eventually force her to buy insurance on the DC healthcare exchange.
"I lost my insurance under Obamacare so now I'm forced to go to the DC health exchange," the Minnesota Republican told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room” on Thursday.
"We are forced to go on the website and purchase the health insurance plan from the DC health exchange," she reiterated. "We'll do it, but remember there are a few problems with this website. The President acknowledged that. I'm not going to waste my time and frustration until they get the thing fixed."
Bachmann's comments follow Obama's announcement of an administrative change to the Affordable Care Act aimed at allowing those whose insurance is being canceled over the law to keep those plans for another year. Obama had said previously those policy holders would not lose their coverage.
Bachmann did not specify in the interview why she was losing her insurance.
A CNN survey shows most Senators and House members plan to participate in the Obamacare exchanges and take the employer contribution that comes with it. Others are seeking coverage on the private market.
Technical issues have plagued the website, HealthCare.gov, since the launch of the online exchange in October, barring many Americans from completing the signup process.
Obama has apologized for the rocky start and also promised to fix the major glitches in the website so it’s working for most people by month’s end.
Bachmann, a tea party favorite and former Republican presidential candidate, said that her husband has "very significant health issues" making it even more necessary they have coverage.
Healthcare enrollees must sign up for a plan through the exchanges by December 15 to get coverage starting January 1. The later deadline is March 31.
Bachmann did not confirm that she would buy insurance by the December deadline, but simply said she would wait until the system is fixed to purchase insurance.
CNN Capitol Hill reporter Lisa Desjardins and CNN's Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.
LIAR!!!! You have the Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program (Standard Option).
For days now all I've seen and heard is how President Obama is a liar. Then this lady comes on CNN and tells this BOLD FACED LIE and nobody calls her on it? Give me a break...
"Bachmann, a tea party favorite and former Republican presidential candidate, said that her husband has "very significant health issues" making it even more necessary they have coverage."
Oh, how sweet the Bachmann hypocrisy.
Sounds like a myth. INHO i think she is not force to lose her coverage, because let's be honest with her bank account and free government health care how is it possible her current plan dosen't meet federal minimums.
I would have insisted on an actual reason for cancellation from her mout, otherwise it's not an interview, it's more like a side show, oh wait, ths is a tp darling we're talking about.
CNN why? why do you allow such soft handling of the craziest people in the country? Demand the specifics, or tell her to go away.
Oh well, Michele. Deal with it.
Well, good thing Obamacare doesn't allow pre-existing conditions to keep you from getting insurance, now does it? OMG...you mean Congress will have to get the same coverage as the little people now....say it isn't so!!!!!
this women had rather climb a tree and tell a lie than stand on the ground and tell the truth.
