Palin apologizes for not being 'clearer' in comments about Pope

(CNN) - Sarah Palin attempted to clarify comments she made about the Pope in an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, saying on Facebook Thursday that she was not trying to be critical of Pope Francis when she said some of his statements sound "kind of liberal."

"I was reminding viewers that we need to do our own homework on news subjects, and I hadn't done mine yet on the Pope's recent comments as reported by the media," she posted.

In the interview with Tapper that aired Tuesday, Palin said she has been surprised and "taken aback" by some of the comments she heard Pope Francis make, but cautioned that she doesn't fully trust "the media's interpretation of somebody's message."

In her Facebook statement, she further explained that she doesn't trust the media "to get it right when it comes to reporting on the Vatican."

"I do, however, trust my many Catholic friends and family, including some excellent Catholic writers, who have since assured me that Pope Francis is as sincere and faithful a shepherd of his church as his two predecessors whom I admired," she added. "I apologize for not being clearer in my response, thus opening the door to critical media that does what it does best in ginning up controversy."

– CNN's Ashley Killough and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

Yeah, Sarah. I know. The Pope is a "new" subject. For you anyway.

She has never done her homework on news subjects. It's obvious every time she opens her mouth. Don't know who is more pathetic, her or the people that keep interviewing her.

It is SO VERY SAD that this woman of so limited intelligence and no filter from her brain to her mouth is out there in some small way representing us. I am not Catholic but am so incredibly impressed with Pope Francis, and well, he is on one side of an intelligence and character continuum and Ms. Palin is solidly on the very opposite side.

Sarah, there isn't any homework to be done. What us good thinkers do: "We always think first before we open our mouth". May be you should learn that and try to put a lid on your big mouth.

She would like you to believe she was misquoted, or taken out of context. But its a video clip, her words, no one else's, so she has to admit she is clueless, that's OK honey, we already knew that.

Here'e the problem, Righties: for you now the Pope is too "liberal"? The head of one of the oldest, and most conservative religious bodies in the world? Too liberal?
Has it occured to you as you spin ever further out-of-control to the right, embracing ever more backward, radical and restrictive beliefs and ideas, that it isn't the world becoming "too liberal", rather it is you who has become more and more extreme?
For the vast majority of the population, it isn't that the Pope (or Obama, or Christie or whoever you rail against) who is too liberal to counterbalance your radical belief structures, they are in fact very via media. They probably need to be much more liberal to counter your cancerous ideas.

blaming the media again.......what a surprise. This nitwit is the best thing that the democrats could hope for but it's just SO painful to see and hear her. And no, tightie righties, we are NOT, I repeat NOT "afraid" of her. Every time she speaks, she sinks the GOP even further so please make sure she is involved in the nomination of your already-failed presidential candidate

Keep asking her questions and you will get this, she has no time or interest in being informed, she is used to saying whatever and not getting called on it, this was the pope honey, not Obama.

Actually, rereading this - where's the apology? Here's what an apology sounds like:

"I was wrong to bring politics into a discussion about the Pope. I apologize."

there is a saying, "Talking Out the Side of Your Neck" , that what she does to try and sound relevant to the questions. She was so caught of guard with her interview with Katy Curic that when she is asked a question about a subject that is off her script she gives these amorphous answers or really does not answer the questions in her response or totally ignores the question and goes back over her talking points. She does though makes money for her cause, which is herself.

I thought her message was pretty clear: "The pope couldn't possible be a liberal (feed the hungry, help the sick, offer forgiveness, that 'liberal' stuff).

"Musta been that liberal media that got his message wrong."

In her Facebook statement, she further explained that she doesn't trust the media "to get it right when it comes to reporting on the Vatican."
    -------------------------
In other words, she doesn't trust the Vatican's own web site to accurately report about the goings on within its' own walls.
