3 hurdles Obamacare fix must overcome

New York (CNNMoney) – President Obama now says that it's okay with him for people to keep their individual health insurance plans for another year. But he doesn't have the power to renew their policies.

Under attack after insurers terminated non-Obamacare compliant policies for millions of Americans, Obama said Thursday the administration will allow state insurance commissioners and insurers to extend current policies through 2014 even if they don't meet all the health reform requirements.

    I think strongly it is a GAME PLAYED BY GOP THUGS, because they are sold out to the corruption from Hospitals, insurance thugs. They are pouring billions of dollars at the cost of stupid, ordinary American citizens. These idiots are NOT realizing this truth. I pity. ACA is a Law. Period. SC upheld too.

    People are simply blaming Obamacare for what insurers have been doing for decades, which is that they change the terms and conditions of most policies on an annual basis. In fact, some insurers are corraling people into new policies, even when their old policies meet the grandfather clauses. They see an opportunity to charge a higher premium, and they're taking it.

    Obama needs to stand tall and suck it up, and do what it takes to support the American people, the repubs have been saying that obamacare would kill the American economy for 5 years now, but the facts shows that this country is more richer than it ever been in history, yes i admit that the richness seems to go up top, but this country has never had the money it currently has now than anytime in our history. we've left a great recession to lead the world in the most fruitful country on the planet, yet lessening to the repubs rederic you might think we were still losing 800,000 jobs a month, financial disasters every where, wasted looking towns and cities all over again. when will these people take their heads out of the dark and see where this president have brought us from against incredible repubs opposition. i think we should go ahead and let him finish the job, and give him some support and stop lessening to the repubs gigantic propaganda machine so much. and stand up for once dems, and stop laying down every time you here the repubs propaganda machine start railing.

    @ Rudy NYC
    Please do not blame folks for blaming Obamacare. Place the blames to reporters. They are the ones who are feeding them negativities. I do not see how reporters are engaging themselves to oversee that those who badly need healthcare must get it. Am not wondering why reporters are paid very little salary ( $27,519 per year). Their employers know very well their work is quite unproductive.

  6. You Can Keep Your Plan If You Want

    Obama has proposed an imaginary administrative fix that he has no power whatsoever to enforce. This is typical of the entire ACA plan. It was formulated by political science majors who have no real world experience. The task they are trying to accomplish is enormous, it seeks to control 19% of the GDP of this country. And after three years they could not even get the the website to work properly. Anyone who wants to continue down this path does so at their own peril. A lot of Democrats have already figured that much out.

    Any excuse in the book because there was a failure to communicate, eh? If you like plan you can keep your plan, period! So where did the Repug Thugs invade that brilliant statement? Obama said something like he wasn't going to negoiate with a gun to his head. So I guess somebody didn't get the Memo that millions and millions of young folks need to sign up. but, surprise, surprise, millions and millions of young people don't have the money! Obama Care took care of that!
    Wise up people! Obama Care is headed to the Bone Yard. Sooner than you think. Meantime all the Screw Ups caused by the Liberal's will take a long tome to fix. Look at all the destruction in the Phillipenes for a visual of what Obama Care. looks like.

    What exactly are the non-compliant issues that caused these insurance plans to be cancelled? Sounds to me as if insurance companies were issuing bare bone plans that probably shouldn't have been offered to begin with.

    It does not take much to meet the grandfather clause in the ACA, also known as Obamacare. In HealthCare.gov's own words: "Grandfathered plans are those that were in existence on March 23, 2010 and haven’t been changed in ways that substantially cut benefits or increase costs for consumers." The site also describes what are or are not required for grandfathered plans. People should take a look.

    People may have heard conservatives complain that Obamacare requires insurance plans to cover pediatric care and have maternity coverage for people who don't need them. These requirements do not apply to grandfathered plans. If insurance companies had wanted to keep their existing plans, they could have grandfathered the plans. They chose not to do that. Obamacare gives them a convenient excuse to cancel the plans and hike the premiums of their replacement plans.

    Why should they not have been offered, Lynda? Everyone has different needs. A lot of these policies offered little if any coverage for office visits, prescriptions, etc., but rather provided a safety net in the event of a catastrophic event. These types of policies are attractive to younger, healthier people who have low utilization. It's exactly THAT audience that the ACA needs in the exchange pools to make them financially viable at somewhat palatable premium rates, and exactly WHY the ACA basically outlawed them – a devious and deceptive effort to force the participants into the exchange pools.

    @You Can Keep,

    Sigh.

    "He is proposing a change in the LAW. Only Congress can do that." And where in Article I.8 or in Article II does it explicitly say that?
