Web preview: Why Matt Damon supports public schools, but sends his kids to private school

Watch CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper" at 4 p.m. ET for more of our interview with actor Matt Damon.

(CNN) - Actor Matt Damon has spoken out about teachers' unions and public schools, rallying teachers at a march in Washington in 2011 decrying the widespread use of standardized testing to judge how well teachers, students and schools are performing. At that event, he also challenged a reporter who questioned a teacher's incentive to put in work on the job, and went after a cameraman who proposed that 10 percent of teachers are bad.

why??? because he is like every liberal. he wants to tell everybody else how to live their life while he lives his life in a completely different way. you see, we are all just too dumb to live without being told what to do at every turn by a liberal that knows everything.

Must be rough being a famous Hollywood actor. You have to walk lightly in your loafers.

Private schools provide a better education and enviroment for students to learn and grow. They are much safer as well.

Softballs for Sarah; penetrating questions that expose the hypocrisy of that major political figure, actor Matt Damon.

Hey Jake, I thought you had positioned yourself as a political insider. How about some actual politics, for a change.

Palin and Damon. Next week: Rihanna.

Yet another hypocritical liberal Hollywood star who "knows what's best" for the rest of us. Matt, you'll have credibility on this issue when your kids are in a public school with ours. Until then, stick to acting.

So the GOP are in favor of increase premiums and more cancelled policies after unsuspected illinesses or young adult in an unexpected accident? This does nothing more than award those who are the cause for the need of health care reform in the first place (the insurance company). This bill will not permit insurance companies from continued health coverage discrimination. Besides most states choose not to go back to the old policies. Is the GOP bill trumping the leverage they want to give to the states? This bill was not designed to help the ACA but create more disruptions. Whether you like the ACA or not, there is no way in this Country should have people eft out to dry without appropriate coverage in the event of the unexpected.

He would deny for all Americans, what he has for his children. Just Obama and the Democrats refusing to partake of the Obamacare nightmare they continue to force on the rest of America.

@just sayin "he is like every liberal. he wants to tell everybody else how to live their life ..."

Unlike the Freedom Fighters on the radical Right that want to tell everyone:
    – what a woman can and cannot do with her body
    – what religious prayer should be said in school
    – what religious subjects should replace science class
    – to submit to corporations and leave them alone because they will do the right thing for all people
    – what religion this country and everyone in it should be

Too bad... I like Matt Damon and his acting in a lot of films. It diminishes him in my mind knowing he is just another hypocritical liberal that talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk.

There are those that send their children to private schools for a good reason. Any actor, politician or otherwise famous person almost needs to if they can afford it. Why you ask? It is because children of these people will be targeted for bullies or suck ups or those that will try to kidnap the kid. There are also schools that provide teaching of various specific religions or philosphies that can't be taught in public schools.

Yup, you've got it. That pretty much sums it up. Let's regress and go back to the days when insurance companies carried 50% profit margins, denied you coverage, and dropped you when needed major medical coverage because you hit a lifetime cap.
