Albuquerque: New path for abortion opponents

Washington (CNN) - The failed referendum in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy is the first known instance of the issue being addressed at a local level, but it might not be the last.

"I think we'll see this more and more," said Mallory Quigley, communications director for Susan B. Anthony List, an anti-abortion group.

    just asking

    liberals and lefties keep using the word rare when discussing abortion. just what have the liberals done or proposed to make abortion rare? nothing. millions of babies are still murdered. yet another liberal lie and con job.
    -------------------
    I'm no lefty, but the only time I use the word "rare" is when I'm describing my Porterhouse Steak, "Medium rare, please."

    @just asking "just what have the liberals done or proposed to make abortion rare?"

    Answer: Some liberals support or work for family planning clinics (real ones – not the fake Christian ones) that give out birth control and information. This makes for less unwanted pregnancies. Isn't that better than federal or state regulation?

    Conservative Myth #85478 – Liberals only do things through bigger government.

    @Fair,

    "Don't want a kid? Wear a rubber."

    Great! Now go tell that to Republican politicians who want to make that hard to do, because Jesus.

    The anti-abortion groups just need to admit defeat and get out of a woman's business. If you object to abortion, don't have one. Don't force your beliefs on others. This is a democracy not a theocracy.

    If I'm not mistaken, condoms can be purchased at just about every pharmacy and convenience store. Tuck your strawman in and say night-night.

    @Rudy,

    ""Medium rare, please."

    Agreed. Cooked beef sucks. The one exception that proves the rule? Marinated carne asada. Mmmm!

    No exceptions for tuna, though. A stove-top to tuna steak is like garlic to a vampire. Tuna should only be eaten raw. Canned tuna fish is an abomination; doubtless a conservative came up with it.

    Fair,

    Indeed, my straw man is named Rick Santorum, who came in 2nd in 2012 GOP primaries. He ran on a platform decrying, and I quote, "the dangers of contraception".

    Unless you're picking nits and are referring to condoms ONLY, in which case you seem to be arguing that only men are responsible for birth control? That's an aggressively feminist position for a conservative.

    Look Fair, you're going to have to deal with the Santorums, and the many men who share his views, who are prominent in your party.

    Great example of how the Radical Right double-speak is decrying needless abortion and at the same time lecturing from the pulpit about the evils of contraception causing pregnancy. I think Colbert recently made fun of this comparing it to fire extinguishers causing fires.
