CNN obtains GOP playbook to target Obamacare

Washington (CNN) - It's a playbook on the bruising field of health care politics, complete with "x's and o's."

The House Republican strategy memo, entitled "Because of Obamacare... I lost my insurance," offers samples of talking points, social media, videos, digital flyers, op-eds, and a fact sheet for GOP lawmakers doing battle against the president's signature legislative achievement.

Obtained by CNN, and reported first by Roll Call, the playbook was released late last month. A Republican source who provided the strategy memo to CNN says it will be updated and released to GOP House members Thursday.

"The administration now has a serious competence problem. is so much more than a website. The website should have been the easy part," the playbook reads.

The disclosure of the memo, produced by the office of House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, comes amid a sustained Republican onslaught against the Affordable Care Act.

President Obama has noted the highly organized opposition to his signature legislative achievement.

“One of the problems we’ve had is one side of Capitol Hill is invested in failure,” Obama said at a Wall Street Journal event with some of the nation's top CEO's Tuesday.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz said the GOP's "18 page playbook of partisan attacks is 18 pages longer than their health care plan."

"In the playbook, there’s not a single word devoted to helping constituents enroll or offering an alternative idea to help Americans gain access to quality, affordable care," he added.

A spokesperson for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Democrats will continue to back the program.

"While Republicans continue to fixate on sabotaging health reform and root for failure, House Democrats will continue to stand tall in support of the Affordable Care Act, work to strengthen the health reform law as implementation continues, and ensure that millions of uninsured Americans get coverage," Drew Hammill said in a statement.

The GOP's "I lost my healthcare" playbook was prepared before the website even went active.
Distrubing that so many people cheer for failure when nothing has even happened yet.

In other words, the GOP has a plan to use the failings of the ACA as talking points. Shocking ...... Jim Acosta should get a Pulitzer for this.

Why shouldn't they have an organized playbook for the opposition? With the way the media carries the water for Obamacare, glosses over the idiocy of it all and does it's best (but fails) to make the law look good. Any organized way to get rid of the law and let people know it is foolishness is a good thing.
No one likes insurance companies – except those who profit from them. Obamacare was written with their help. It empowers them as the middleman and joins them with the government and IRS – a recipe for disaster. There are other solutions.

Why don't you publish the Democrat playbook on how they are going to make Obamacare a success? Oh, yea, they don't have one.....that would require leadership, management skill and a plan.......

  5. GOP Sucks

The GOP needs to stop destroying things, and start building things.
"You didn't build that" should change to "You didn't build ANYTHING!"

Does there need to be a playbook? Where have you been these past few months of the Obamacare roll out?

  10. America Suckered Again

I like the GOP's strategy better than Obama's. His is to lie and then beg forgiveness, which liberals are always more than happy to do. Theirs is to work instead with a strategy for the good of the American people in the face of the entrenched Washington Debt Machine.

In any of those 17 pages, do they mention their plan to fix health care? Or is it 17 pages of finger pointing and recycled talking points?

CNN joining in on blaming republicans for the Obamacare mess.

The only way to protect Americans from Obamacare increased healthcare costs, a reduction of the quality of healthcare, the right to choose a healthcare provider, privacy rights, freedom and liberty from the police state raised by Obamacare, is to see to it that Obamacare fails.

Republicans will have to come up with an alternative solution to reduce healthcare costs, not necessarily replace Obamacare.

So, have Republicans forgotten about their claim that Obama exempted Congress from Obamacare? Nah, that was just a talking point designed to fool the Republican base, including Tea Partiers. It sure worked on Michele Bachmann. How about the Republican claim that government is taking over health care? No, apparently insurance companies can still cancel plans and raise premiums on their own. Even when Obama gives them a choice to renew plans, most of the companies won't do it because it is too late to change plans. Apparently, this does not mean that Republicans would not try to repeal the whole law, because in that case it is not too late to change plans.

Heathcare/ obamacare it's all about republicans AND democrats extorting doctors and insurances to give them more money or else. While them 2 bribe and lobby each other the American middle class looses out!

If you can't create one (health care program) you can only attack it. Why does the TEA-GOP NOT want Americans to have health insurance?

The GOP playbook is the least of Obamacare's problems. All of these failures are self inflicted by the democrats and President Obama. It is not just the Republicans that are critical of the ACA. The daily revelations are killiing the credibility of Obamacare and the President. The lack of interest by Obama himself is the greatest negative about Obamacare. His only real accomplishment as President is falling apart due to poor planning, poor implementation and zero accountability by the people responsible.

I assume this 'Playbook" is NOT collecting any success stories! The main problem with the ACA is the greedy insurance companies more than the government, but everyone is focusing on Obama. The "Intent" of the ACA was absolutely a good thing. The insurance companies and their extremely high monthly rates and even higher deductibles than ever in the history of man are the problem. The insurance companies have always been the problem. They make record profits and charge horrendous rates.

In the meantime, the American people will be stuck in the middle while the government is busy sabotaging its own laws rather than improving them.

I wonder if CNN got Obama's playbook. They seemed to go along with his lies without bothering to question them.
