Democrats call Issa's Obamacare road show a 'destructive' political act

(CNN) – The top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Friday accused the panel's chairman of engaging in a "destructive political exercise" by launching a series of hearings on the road meant to highlight various flaws in the Affordable Care Act.

Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings said in a written statement it's evident that Republicans are not invested in fixing the flawed federal health care website, and are instead trying to undermine President Barack Obama's signature legislative accomplishment.

Republicans have the "ultimate goal of tearing down the Affordable Care Act, promoting misinformation and eliminating health insurance for tens of millions of people," Cummings said. "The Committee should support constructive efforts to help educate and assist families who urgently need medical care and now have a chance to obtain it."

California GOP Rep. Darrell Issa, the panel's chairman, kicked off a series of four hearings Friday that will be held outside of Washington. Friday's hearing was in North Carolina – home of embattled Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan, who is up for re-election next year.

Issa will also hold field hearings over the next few weeks in Georgia, Texas and Arizona.

Cummings' statement asserted that local North Carolinians who requested permission to testify in support of the Affordable Care Act were denied the opportunity to do so by Issa's Committee. But Issa's office said Democrats didn't request witnesses at Friday's field hearing. No Democrats attended the event.

A slew of technical issues marred the initial launch of the federal government's online healthcare exchange, healthcare.gov, impeding countless attempts to sign up for health insurance coverage. President Barack Obama admitted earlier this month that his administration "fumbled" the site's rollout, and promised significant improvements by the end of the month.

Democrats, however, have accused Issa and other GOP lawmakers of attacking the Affordable Care Act for purely political reasons. Among other things, Democrats insist Issa has selectively leaked administration documents and reports on healthcare.gov's launch in a way designed to make the rollout process look as terrible as possible.

Issa has issued several subpoenas to numerous Health and Human Services officials and technology officers, ordering them to testify about the botched rollout before his committee.

I look forward to the day when Issa is hauled up in front of the House Ethic committee to answer for his conduct. His actions go beyond oversight and plunge right into political opportunism.

Darrell Issa and the Republican Party are doing this country A GREAT SERVICE by warning the American people of the Obama-Democrat LIES and DECEIT concerning their healthcare insurance. Republicans have been warning us for 3-4 years that the Democrats were lying to the American people and they were right.

And since the Democrats and Obama didn't care to include the Republicans in this great ALL DEMOCRAT DISASTER, why are they now complaining that the Republicans aren't helping them fix the disaster THEY created? Suck it up Democrats and reap the rewards and consequences of your actions, namely not reading what you forced on all of us, then lied about it.

Duh. This isn't about having objective, fair, unbiased hearings and collection of evidence. It's about manufacturing a narrative and public misinformation via a disgustingly partisan political stunt abuse of power. He's going to have carefully vetted people say what he wants them to say and pretend that it's representative of what everyone in the country thinks or has experienced. It's kangaroo court...a show trial for the whole family! And the MSM will dutifully help him do it by broadcasting all of it with great relish, but without a single critical thought in their empty little bobbleheads.

    Obamacare is a failure.
    – How many people lost their policies, even though Obama stated several times on the record, "You can keep your policy. Period."?
    – How come there are all these stories about people's rates jumping up, doubled, an tripled in some cases?
    – How come there are all these stories that people can't find an "affordable" Obamacare plan?
    – How come the website that was supposed to be 'fully working' by the end of November, will not be ready until "blank"
    – Where are all of the huge enrollment numbers where the total number of people enrolled exceeds 7 million for Obamacare to be sustainable?
    – Why are businesses moving to part-time models rather than full-time with benefits to avoid the huge Obamacare FINES?
    – Why are companies, that have been holding back on hiring in anticipation of Obamacare FINES, no longer looking at hiring as viable for their business interests?

Democrats pushed Obamacare upon the US people. Stop whining... OWN IT!

Issa is such a worthless human being. Another witch hunt. What Benghazi, NSA, or IRS didn't pan out for you? People already know the website isn't working. Why does he need to travel to the red states to tell them. Issa how about you got to your own state California and ask the people that actually signed up on hows it going? Better yet go to red state Kentucky where over 40,000 people signed up for ACA. Your party is done sooner than you think.

Wow... the Democrats really really hate it when they can't keep the truth from the American people. Meanwhile Obama and all of his people are holding their propaganda events spreading more of their lies. And Obama spewing his lies for 3 years wasn't "a destructive political act"???

Give me a freakin' break..... these whining Democrats need to just grow a couple and learn to responsibility for the disasters they create. This lying and blaming everybody else is just getting sickening and the American people aren't buying it anymore, as Obama's poll numbers clearly show. They keep this nonsense up and they will be in the 20s by the end of the year.

Setting aside that the factual premises for some of your questions are completely wrong, please note the following fact:

Exactly none of those questions are answered by Issa taking his kangaroo court sideshow on the road in this manner.

Another poor sole stuck in the Fpx bubble. Did Bush ever find those WMD's? I believe that lie cost over 5000 soldier lives and 10's of thousands soldier either missing their legs or arms? GOP followers are to funny. I try to forget what Bush caused this country but every time I turn on the TV I am reminded when a soldier comes home in a wooden box of the little lie BUSH sold on the american people.

Issa doesn`t have to do this, people already know what a nightmare the ACA has turned out to be. Nothing can be done right now. If you have kids, encourage them to serve a term of service with the military to save themselves from this nightmare.

Numbers coming in from the states show that the vast majority of the young people signing up are going into the free Medicaid system and NOT into the healthcare exchanges to pay for policies. One state had older people comprising 45-55% of the exchange enrollees when it needed to be down around 25%. The beginning of the Obamacare Death Spiral.... It is what you get when you base your healthcare system on liberal fantasy.

This guy is worth $400M and he still doesn't want to help anyone else go up the ladder.
He should be in jail not congress. He can travel all he can but all he will ever be is a loudmouth obstructionist. He wasted millions of his own money in his quest to be senator. Thank goodness the whole of California saw through the disguise and all he can be is the rep for the 49th district full of dummies.

I want to know what back rooms deals were cut between the Republicants and the company responsible for the Healthcare website. FEC filings show the website developer contributed heavily to republicant re-election PACS. Shall we start the investigation there?

Issa's hearings are nothing more than a display of his contempt for America.

What a pathetic person he is. Obviously hungry for attention and his total lack of self respect drives him to
act like the bum that he is. Poor thing, a true example of the adage "money can't buy happiness". He is
a sad character, which is the only thing that gets him close to the word "character".... he has none.

Hows the weather in the Fox bubble? You should try to come out once in awhile. Obama lie may have cost people the insurance policy but they can get a different one. How about Bush's lie? Let me see 5000+ soldiers dead. 10's of thousand still coming home with missing limbs. And I know i should forget about it cause it was in the past, but its hard when i see a 18 year old kid come home in a wooden box. So how about you stop being a hypocrite cause ALL Presidents lie, but I would have to say Bush's lie is a tad bit worse than Obama's.

Obama told the Republicans I WON when they went to the White House to offer suggestions on how to make his healthcare law better. Now Obama, Cunningham and Reid want to blame the Republicans for not bailing them out of the mess they created. That is really funny.
