Rush Limbaugh uses rape analogy to decry filibuster rule change

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh used an analogy about rape Friday to blast this week’s decision by the Senate's Democratic majority to change the chamber’s filibuster rules despite the unanimous opposition of minority Republicans.

The so-called “nuclear option” will allow a bare majority of senators – as opposed to 60 - to approve most judicial and executive branch nominations. The Democratic caucus controls 55 of the chamber’s 100 seats.

"Let's say, let's take 10 people in a room and they're a group. And the room is made up of six men and four women. The group has a rule that the men cannot rape the women. The group also has a rule that says any rule that will be changed must require six votes, of the 10, to change the rule," Limbaugh told listeners.

"Every now and then, some lunatic in the group proposes to change the rule to allow women to be raped. But they never were able to get six votes for it. There were always the four women voting against it and they always found two guys.”

Limbaugh continued: “Well, the guy that kept proposing that women be raped finally got tired of it, and he was in the majority and he was one that (said), 'You know what? We're going to change the rule. Now all we need is five."

“And well, 'You can't do that.' 'Yes we are. We're the majority. We're changing the rule.' And then they vote. Can the women be raped? Well, all it would take then is half of the room,” Limbaugh said.

“You can change the rule to say three. You can change the rule to say three people want it, it's going to happen. There's no rule. When the majority can change the rules there aren't any."

Friday’s analogy isn’t Limbaugh’s first inflammatory comment about women. Last year, the radio host apologized for a comment he made on his show about Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, calling her a "slut" after she testified about contraception on Capitol Hill.

Next time Limbaugh is in Florida, I hope he runs into someone who sees him as an imminent threat, stands their ground and takes care of him once and for all.

Rush, I know you've had problems with drugs in the past. And maybe this has affected your reasoning skills. But 5 out of 10 is not a majority. Your analogy would still require 6 votes.

So what. I'm not sure what the news here is. What on earth is inflammatory here? I think he is giving a perfect example of how the rule was changed.

Now if we could find a Constitutional way to stuff a sock in Limberger's mouth.

The filibuster needs to be gone. I don't care who is in the minority. Revoke the filibuster on all business and do away with the "hold."

Rush Limbaugh always talks about some sort of sexual act. He does this continually on his Rant & Raves on the air. It makes me wonder if it's his Fantasy or his desire to engage or he has already engaged in this stuff ? Anyone who continually repeats a specific sexual act does exactly that ! I always thought he was a nasty old toilet pervert pig anyhow !

"When the majority can change the rules there aren't any."

Wrong, Rush. When the majority can change the rules that's Democracy. You're just, well rage is how you make a living. But the GOP would have loved this rule change if they happened to be the majority at the moment.

The reason the GOP filibustered was to block even the voting on appointments. Why? Because without people in the appointed offices, the departments cannot function as well. They say that means less government, but all it really means is they want America to fail because they're not in the driver's seat just now.

By no means do I like Rush....actually I hate everything that he is and would love to punch him in the face over and over again. I do however disagree with the course of action on the Democrats side. Sure they have had nothing but opposition but I think that this will hurt the parties image. They need to think long term and just play the game for now. It may assure that their seats will stay blue if they look like the "bigger" party.

Repubs cry every time they lose at the political game, which is often. Yet when the GOP uses dirty political tricks to win (resdistricting, limiting polling stations, additional ID, etc.) they are somehow "Patriotic".
The GOP have gone from being the party of lies, to becoming a lie.

The day the nation turns it's back to the likes of this mindless cretin, will be the day the nation gains it's dignity back. Until that time the nation, and the people listening to this dolt have no dignity. No dignity at all.

Why do Republican Tea Partiers and conservative purists put Limbaugh on a pedestal? He is not a legitimate journalist or political analyst? He is only a radio talk show ENTERTAINER. Hard to understand why his devoted followers are so easily swayed by his ranting madness and hysteria.

The 60 vote rule was also known as "tyranny of the minority" as a 40 vote group could control the majority. While it is not unreasonable to require a bit more than a simple majority for some issues, the ability of a minority to control the appointment of public officials is unreasonable as those officials have a limited time in office as they can, and usually will, be replaced upon a new election of a president.

Inside the diseased mind of a conservative. A rape analogy, really? Everything Democrats do is like rape to a conservative Republican. How can you run a country when one party is this far out to lunch???? All they are talking about is appointments for godsake! If Republicans don't win a 100% of the time the world is out to get them!

If 60% is not enough, then why is 40% enough?

Leave it to this cretin to say something so crude about the republicans finally getting the beat down they so richly deserved. they brought this on themselves with their indefensible obstructionism. and now they're threatening to be even less cooperative??? do they not realize it's impossible to do less than nothing???

If you need a majority, and there are 10 people in a room, and you think you only need 5 votes now instead of 6, you are an idiot. And his entire point could have been made without including rape or men vs. women, but then he wouldn't have had the publicity that comes along with controversial topics. No wonder nobody takes him seriously.
