Rush Limbaugh uses rape analogy to decry filibuster rule change

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh used an analogy about rape Friday to blast this week’s decision by the Senate's Democratic majority to change the chamber’s filibuster rules despite the unanimous opposition of minority Republicans.

The so-called “nuclear option” will allow a bare majority of senators – as opposed to 60 - to approve most judicial and executive branch nominations. The Democratic caucus controls 55 of the chamber’s 100 seats.

"Let's say, let's take 10 people in a room and they're a group. And the room is made up of six men and four women. The group has a rule that the men cannot rape the women. The group also has a rule that says any rule that will be changed must require six votes, of the 10, to change the rule," Limbaugh told listeners.

"Every now and then, some lunatic in the group proposes to change the rule to allow women to be raped. But they never were able to get six votes for it. There were always the four women voting against it and they always found two guys.”

Limbaugh continued: “Well, the guy that kept proposing that women be raped finally got tired of it, and he was in the majority and he was one that (said), 'You know what? We're going to change the rule. Now all we need is five."

“And well, 'You can't do that.' 'Yes we are. We're the majority. We're changing the rule.' And then they vote. Can the women be raped? Well, all it would take then is half of the room,” Limbaugh said.

“You can change the rule to say three. You can change the rule to say three people want it, it's going to happen. There's no rule. When the majority can change the rules there aren't any."

Friday’s analogy isn’t Limbaugh’s first inflammatory comment about women. Last year, the radio host apologized for a comment he made on his show about Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, calling her a "slut" after she testified about contraception on Capitol Hill.

Is Rush saying that it's ok for men to rape women as long as they have more than 6 to 4 majority? I am sorry for the people who listen to him.

How about the media just ignore this ignorant jerk for a change? He's irrelevant and just wants the attention. Stop giving it to him. He's never worked a day in his life and his opinion is no more important than that of the average sewer rat.

Rush removes all doubt of why Bobby Jindal renamed the GOP " The Stupid Party." And, Jindal is republican.

Do not think Rush speaks for all conservatives!!! I am firmly conservative and disagree with just about every policy Pres. Obama embraces. But Rush is an embarrassment to me! I think he is crude, extreme, and out to make as much money as he can with his thoughtless words.

While I do not agree with most of what Rush says, I will say this. Biden used a rape analogy and no one said a word. Rush is NOT the leader or spokesman of the Republican Party. He is simply a conservative and an extreme right winger. The left is just as guilty as the right. Lets just make this simple. Remove appointments from Congressional approval and let the courts decide. If you sit on the court, you should have a say in who sits beside you.

Rush is stupid, and nobody listens, and he lies. Right. The 10 or 12 leftist/marxist types with no concept of right and wrong on this page surely believe all the above. However, the millions/majority of Americans are conservatives and share most (perhaps not all) of his views. You relatively few are very pitiful and I do indeed have a lot of pity on you. To go through life this enraged must suck.

May I suggest acutually listening to his show? A long time ago I had never listened and fell for some of the bull you'll find here but after I actually listened I realized what a crock most liberal types actually believe. Good luck you angy people. I hope you catch on before you make yourserlves sick! Now, off to a good cup of coffee by a warm fire. Happy Thanksgiving!

Must be a very SLOW NEWS DAY.

ANYONE who's had a history class would know that this analogy is ALWAYS MADE, in order to illustrate the need for minority rights against a tyrannical majority. I'm just surprised that CNN took the bait this time – they usually do better.

If the rule change is really that bad....I'm sure the Republicans will change the rule back just as soon as they are back in the majority.....right?

Several years ago he lost his ability to hear. While this is not something normally thought of as a good thing, it did beg the question: Why couldn't it have been his voice? But even this would not have been a plus. He'd have his old, musty, dusty and delusional thoughts printed in a book. There'd be some that would buy it. And here is the crux of the problem. There are like minded people who admire him. This is what really scares the rest of us.

John said: "Unfortunately, WillyNilly is wrong on two counts. Firstly, Limbaugh is not a moron. He is a very intelligent, very eloquent speaker. That is what makes the garbage he spews very troubling – the fact that he knows it's destructive and untruthful, but does it anyway just for money.
Secondly, there are not 'some', but many people who listen and believe his lies, and that's what is dragging this country down."
Now, apply that to Obama and you have an appropriate statement. Obama's lies are dragging the country down.
