Rush Limbaugh uses rape analogy to decry filibuster rule change

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh used an analogy about rape Friday to blast this week’s decision by the Senate's Democratic majority to change the chamber’s filibuster rules despite the unanimous opposition of minority Republicans.

The so-called “nuclear option” will allow a bare majority of senators – as opposed to 60 - to approve most judicial and executive branch nominations. The Democratic caucus controls 55 of the chamber’s 100 seats.

"Let's say, let's take 10 people in a room and they're a group. And the room is made up of six men and four women. The group has a rule that the men cannot rape the women. The group also has a rule that says any rule that will be changed must require six votes, of the 10, to change the rule," Limbaugh told listeners.

"Every now and then, some lunatic in the group proposes to change the rule to allow women to be raped. But they never were able to get six votes for it. There were always the four women voting against it and they always found two guys.”

Limbaugh continued: “Well, the guy that kept proposing that women be raped finally got tired of it, and he was in the majority and he was one that (said), 'You know what? We're going to change the rule. Now all we need is five."

“And well, 'You can't do that.' 'Yes we are. We're the majority. We're changing the rule.' And then they vote. Can the women be raped? Well, all it would take then is half of the room,” Limbaugh said.

“You can change the rule to say three. You can change the rule to say three people want it, it's going to happen. There's no rule. When the majority can change the rules there aren't any."

Friday’s analogy isn’t Limbaugh’s first inflammatory comment about women. Last year, the radio host apologized for a comment he made on his show about Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, calling her a "slut" after she testified about contraception on Capitol Hill.

  1. ThinkAgain: The GOP owes our nation $24 billion

Ah, Rush Limbaugh, the man the GOP put on point to tell the GOP base that it was OK to question the President's legitimacy by implying he was born in Kenya; that voter fraud led to his election in 2008; that after 8 years of being told that to disagree with the President is akin to treason that now if you didn't, you weren't a "real American."

Some people dismiss Limbaugh as nothing more than an "entertainer." He is, not only because he's been spewing his hate and lies for more than two decades, but because he continues to do so, even as it harms our country.

I will be so happy when this blob of flesh no longer sucks air.

Let's see, Limbaugh constantly makes derogatory remarks about women ... and has been married 4 times ... yes, he's quite the role model for the "traditional family values" crowd. Right up there with Newt Gingrich having an affair with the woman who became his wifey #2 while simultaneously going after President Clinton for his marital infidelities.

The GOP = The party of hypocrites, liars and jerks.

Just the sight and hearing pompous Limbaugh makes my skin crawl. What a disgusting person with horrible ideas. Sometimes when you see a car accident you 'have to' see what happened and that's why I read what this drug abusing hypocrite had to say.

Half of all judicial filibusters in the entire history of this country have occurred in the last 5 years.

Republicans have brought this on themselves by behaving like children.

The point he is making has merit. Liberals are basically thieves who steal other people's money by voting for "welfare-state" politicians who steal from a "minority upper and working class" and use this money to buy votes with big handouts – i.e. the ACA. Naturally, the upper and working class contributors dislike the thieves for taking their hard earned money and the liberal politicians have brainwashed the thieves into hating the hand that feeds them in an effort to make their liberal voters feel good about themselves so they can spread the word and buy more votes. This liberal culture creates NO incentives for progress or growth – ethically, mentally, financially or otherwise. Clearly a thief has no incentive other than to keep stealing and the contributors struggle to produce when it becomes technically legal to steal from them. This is where it stops being America.

it doesnt matter who has control of the gov . sooner or later every one hates them and letting this process happen faster is good . so if democrats do stuff the republicans hate and there is no filibuster option they can cry all day about it get control faster so they can do stuff that no one likes and befor you know it its just 1 term presidents and each side is pandering to the middle . republicans have almost always gone for the far far rights side of things and it would be nice to see them forced to the middle by there own actions after the democrats get rid of the filibuster

Is this really the best analogy Rush could come up with? Or was it the most inflammatory one? He has no decency, which is fine for his followers since he is their standard bearer in their crusade to bring decency and honesty to society.

But the logic of his analogy is flawed. The democrats have not changed the rule to require an even split on votes, they have only changed the rule from one of a super majority to that of a simple majority.

Rush is a loud, crude, obscene carnival barker that has little interest in fairness or truth.

I think a better analogy is that there are 6 man and 4 women with a baby. They collectively agreed that any decision has to be passed by 6 or more votes. The baby need to be breast fed, but four men repeatedly opposed. Now the baby is on the brink of dying, but the four men did not care. So, the rule was changed to make a majority rule so that the baby could survive.

Can not wait until the Midterm elections, watch the Democrats gain some more seats, even with Republican "gaming" of the voting system, the all the Democrats will do is vote to undo this change, putting the rules back to the way they were, with the majority required to break up a filibuster.

I would like to see Rush offer a castration analogy involving a group of 4 cheated-on wives, 2 non-jaded wives and 4 men. How well would that be understood/ go over for members of the GOP? Does the minority need protection now?

Also, women are not a "minority".

These people have no idea how to use the word "rape" in the proper context. First it's "legitimate rape", and now this.

This talk show host guy is no doubt obsessed with woman. Perhaps he did not get the girl he was obsessed with very first time in his life. He will stop to think about any girl and or women only when he will not have his balls between his legs any more. His employers must do this nation a favor by giving him a free castration and a talk show host job contract for life in exchange for his consent.
