Rush Limbaugh uses rape analogy to decry filibuster rule change

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh used an analogy about rape Friday to blast this week’s decision by the Senate's Democratic majority to change the chamber’s filibuster rules despite the unanimous opposition of minority Republicans.

The so-called “nuclear option” will allow a bare majority of senators – as opposed to 60 - to approve most judicial and executive branch nominations. The Democratic caucus controls 55 of the chamber’s 100 seats.

"Let's say, let's take 10 people in a room and they're a group. And the room is made up of six men and four women. The group has a rule that the men cannot rape the women. The group also has a rule that says any rule that will be changed must require six votes, of the 10, to change the rule," Limbaugh told listeners.

"Every now and then, some lunatic in the group proposes to change the rule to allow women to be raped. But they never were able to get six votes for it. There were always the four women voting against it and they always found two guys.”

Limbaugh continued: “Well, the guy that kept proposing that women be raped finally got tired of it, and he was in the majority and he was one that (said), 'You know what? We're going to change the rule. Now all we need is five."

“And well, 'You can't do that.' 'Yes we are. We're the majority. We're changing the rule.' And then they vote. Can the women be raped? Well, all it would take then is half of the room,” Limbaugh said.

“You can change the rule to say three. You can change the rule to say three people want it, it's going to happen. There's no rule. When the majority can change the rules there aren't any."

Friday’s analogy isn’t Limbaugh’s first inflammatory comment about women. Last year, the radio host apologized for a comment he made on his show about Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, calling her a "slut" after she testified about contraception on Capitol Hill.

Yes, I heard Rush make this analogy. Then I read this article and could not believe the last paragraph which was an absolute non sequitur. That means the argument conclusion does not follow the premises, for you liberals who don't seem to be able to interpret a fact if it slaps you in the face. Harry Reid with his minions managed to destroy yet another government check and balance on their march to complete tyranny. You go, Rush! You scare em' to death.

Why is anyone surprised that this pile of human fungus continues to proffer utterly moronic statements to his legion of backwoods zealots?

In the first place, he's wrong about the number of votes required for a rule change. It has been custom, not a rule, to do it by super-majority. In fact the filibuster itself is custom, not a rule. And that's according to the parliamentarian. No way Reid would have been able to do it if it was codified.

But truth was never Limberger's long suit.

Rush SUCKS at math. Five of ten in favour is NOT a simple majority. Six would still be a majority. Try another analogy!!

Nothing surprises me from this misogynist, sorry excuse of a man. I don't know who is more pathetic, he or the people who listen to his drivel.

Rush has used that analogy many times for years. Where have you crazies been? Where's your outrage about Martin Bashir's inexcusable comments?

I think the measures being taken are a good thing. I think most of us can agree that neither party was innocent in forcing this measure to be taken, and that People like Limbaugh aren't helping.

Limbaugh is a gay man who spends his time at the gay resort in Orlando known as "Parliament House". I know because I have seen him there! Limbaugh is always accompanied by drop-dead gorgeous very young Asian men. . . .

Some people when Rush says "woman" and "rape" in the same sentence, it makes it clear that the message Rush was trying to convey got lost in the hatred. But where is the outrage against martin bashier saying that somebody should defecated and urinate in Sarah Palin's mouth, is it acceptable because she is a woman or because liberals are hypocrites?

Wait? How is his analogy against women? Sounds like he is for respecting the Creator-endowed rights of women?

Rush is a low brow junkie. The primary difference between his analogy and congress is that A) congress asking for a majority, B) The GOP has used the filibuster for things it should not be used for, C) What congress wants to do is not, in itself, a crime. Rape is. If this is the best he can do, perhaps he should close his mouth long enough to formulate some meaningful thoughts before he speaks. Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations; wait, isn't that a book?

So many close minded people here. Drink king obamas koolaid all day, believe his intentional lies, blatant power grabs but a man like rush who can't "do" anything to change any laws. It is you people with your beliefs that spew hatred like you will be happy when this blob no longer sucks air, your hatred is idiotic. If you listen to rush you would find he is very kind and generous. Does he say stupid things? Sure, inflammatory? Sure but he has as much power as Howard stern and you guys probably snicker when you listen to him but oh no have someone insult king Obama and your up in arms. Your pathetic and the way you vote is costing us our freedom.

Last I looked, RAPE was a CRIME while changing the filibuster rules for Non-Supreme Court Judges and Executive appointments is not. And Rush knows what a crime is, from personal experience!

I have always had nothing but contempt for this sad excuse of a human being. I'm sure there must be some thread of decency somewhere in his radio persona, but he constantly burnishes any good he may have with stupidity. It's a really sad state of affairs when someone like him has so many people who hang on every work he says. I'm worried about the health and welfare of our society.
