Rush Limbaugh uses rape analogy to decry filibuster rule change

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh used an analogy about rape Friday to blast this week’s decision by the Senate's Democratic majority to change the chamber’s filibuster rules despite the unanimous opposition of minority Republicans.

The so-called “nuclear option” will allow a bare majority of senators – as opposed to 60 - to approve most judicial and executive branch nominations. The Democratic caucus controls 55 of the chamber’s 100 seats.

"Let's say, let's take 10 people in a room and they're a group. And the room is made up of six men and four women. The group has a rule that the men cannot rape the women. The group also has a rule that says any rule that will be changed must require six votes, of the 10, to change the rule," Limbaugh told listeners.

"Every now and then, some lunatic in the group proposes to change the rule to allow women to be raped. But they never were able to get six votes for it. There were always the four women voting against it and they always found two guys.”

Limbaugh continued: “Well, the guy that kept proposing that women be raped finally got tired of it, and he was in the majority and he was one that (said), 'You know what? We're going to change the rule. Now all we need is five."

“And well, 'You can't do that.' 'Yes we are. We're the majority. We're changing the rule.' And then they vote. Can the women be raped? Well, all it would take then is half of the room,” Limbaugh said.

“You can change the rule to say three. You can change the rule to say three people want it, it's going to happen. There's no rule. When the majority can change the rules there aren't any."

Friday’s analogy isn’t Limbaugh’s first inflammatory comment about women. Last year, the radio host apologized for a comment he made on his show about Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, calling her a "slut" after she testified about contraception on Capitol Hill.

Rush Limbaugh is carrying water for the Tea Party. He has no love or understanding of truth. He preaches hatred. He is evil.

Did you know that Justice Clarence Thomas presided over one of Rush Limbaugh's marriages? Many Congressional Republicans credit him with their "Southern Strategy" Congressional victory in 2012.

Come on Rush. How quickly you forget that the phrase 'nuclear option' was invented DURING A REPUBLICAN DOMINATED SENATE! Republicans cannot hold up government by refusing to allow a vote on every single appointee.

Conservatives have a very poor grasp of f women's issues, much like they have a very poor grasp of race relations, the Bible, and the writings of Thomas Paine.

Rush's ratings must be dropping again if he's using rape analogies as part of his "logic." It's similar to how we never hear about Ann Coulter until she's trying to sell her latest book.

Thank god the GOP is following this nitwit. So much the better as we head toward the next elections. If the Republicans had an intelligent and rational spokesperson I would be more concerned.

Why does anyone even read or listen to this drugged out imbecile. Ignore it and it will eventually go away. His stupid ignorant comments and remarks are just that...

By the way...The House of Representatives only requires a simple majority vote.

Does that mean that the House of Representatives is nothing more than a chamber of rapists?

Ok you don't like the change, go and talk to McConnell and find out from him and the rest of the reps why they have filibustered 440 clear violation of every agreement they have ever had on the issue. I don't like doing away with tradition, but your rape analogy falls flat. Get your facts straight, then come back and talk to us. Until then, you're still just an old (and very rich) blow hard.

So now the Dems can appoint crazy lefty judges and the Repubs can appoint crazy righty judges when they get in power again. This is a bad idea. It will bring more contention and hatred.

I think you need to learn more about our country. We are not a democracy where majority rules (ever heard of that thing called the electoral college?). We are a representative republic where EVERYONE has a voice, not the majority. Read a book. Learn something. Don't be so partisan. Wake up and realize that our politicians have failed us and make people like you think it's one team against another. Why wouldn't you want all Americans to have a voice? That's what makes our country great.

I love how you say that departments can't function. Let me ask you this, how has the lack of appointments affected YOU? It hasn't. Stop buying into the us vs. them.

I personally hope filibustering goes the way of the dinosaurs for both parties. It's a broken tool that has been abused so much it's pointless to have anymore.

Someone needs to tell Limbaugh that rape is against the law which is the province of local jurisdictions. What was changed was a procedure in the senate.

Rush Limbaugh is a hate-filled, loud mouthed drug addict. It amazes me that the media continues to give a voice to such stupid people.
That being said, this is the worst US congress that I've ever seen. With a handful of individual exceptions, both parties look like train wrecks. It would be great if we could have several big political parties, along with serious bans on lobbyists.

Adlai Stevenson once said "Those who corrupt the public mind are just as evil as those who steal from the public purse". I can't help drawing the obvious conclusion...and that's not counting previous behavior and statements from this man.

In Rush's example, 5 of 10 is a majority? In Rush's example, if six guys are all in favor of assaulting the women, then Rush still thinks that is okay? A horrible analogy on so many levels...

Apparently the House of Representatives are rapists since they don't have a 60% stop debate procedure.

If his analogy is legitimate then it tells us something about the House of Representatives.

Put is simply, the rule was a respectable gentleman's agreement, but one side decided to stop being respectable,so the disrespected gentlemen decided, within their legal and moral right, to change it.

Not only is this in poor taste even for the drugster, but it makes absolutely no sense and I am sure my 5 year old can come up with a much better one. The leader of the republicon/TB party is not only slipping to new LOWS of human decency, he is absolutely losing it.
