Rush Limbaugh uses rape analogy to decry filibuster rule change

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh used an analogy about rape Friday to blast this week’s decision by the Senate's Democratic majority to change the chamber’s filibuster rules despite the unanimous opposition of minority Republicans.

The so-called “nuclear option” will allow a bare majority of senators – as opposed to 60 - to approve most judicial and executive branch nominations. The Democratic caucus controls 55 of the chamber’s 100 seats.

"Let's say, let's take 10 people in a room and they're a group. And the room is made up of six men and four women. The group has a rule that the men cannot rape the women. The group also has a rule that says any rule that will be changed must require six votes, of the 10, to change the rule," Limbaugh told listeners.

"Every now and then, some lunatic in the group proposes to change the rule to allow women to be raped. But they never were able to get six votes for it. There were always the four women voting against it and they always found two guys.”

Limbaugh continued: “Well, the guy that kept proposing that women be raped finally got tired of it, and he was in the majority and he was one that (said), 'You know what? We're going to change the rule. Now all we need is five."

“And well, 'You can't do that.' 'Yes we are. We're the majority. We're changing the rule.' And then they vote. Can the women be raped? Well, all it would take then is half of the room,” Limbaugh said.

“You can change the rule to say three. You can change the rule to say three people want it, it's going to happen. There's no rule. When the majority can change the rules there aren't any."

Friday’s analogy isn’t Limbaugh’s first inflammatory comment about women. Last year, the radio host apologized for a comment he made on his show about Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, calling her a "slut" after she testified about contraception on Capitol Hill.

That just about nails it. That disloyal opposition would rather see the United States become much lower in the world standing instead of admitting a black man can do anything just as well or better than most of them. I am so sorry for what this country has become.

This moron is still on the air? Who would listen to him? Do we have that many sick people in the country who listen to Right Wing radio? Accidently a few years ago while tuning around I heard a woman, or at least I think she was a woman, she had a women's name, but a man's voice, Laura Ingraham was her name. What a hate monger! OMG...I could not believe anyone could listen to her spout her vitriolic crap. But then again that is your Tighty Righties at work!

And yet the news media continues to enable this schnitzel by publicizing him.

Dude is deep. Deep into a crisis for which he should receive professional care. I do think what we are really hearing here is a cry for help.

When will this ogre be removed from the media? When will his vulgar, vile, and violent comments be silenced?

The Kimmer recently came back to Atlanta. He is funny and creative in the afternoons. He had an odd angry rant here and there in the old days. The public misses the funny side of Rush that left when GW left the presidency. Rush is now in panic mode, he used to have talent, now he just has anger. I can only take so many years of listening to angry republican men, maybe Kimmer will be the one funny (possibly republic) man to get back on track.

Rush Limbaugh will say anything to detract from his lunacy or is that his lunacy?

The really sick thing about this idiot is the fact that America has put up with him for so long. Gutless America.

You know Rush loves it when CNN writes bout him. Its feedback on how well he is getting the attention of the Libs, progressives and Democrats.

I cannot believe that he gets his own analogy so wrong–before the "nuclear option" it WAS the minority that held the power/

Rush is only still relevant because other people cover him.

Ignore him, like you should ignore any troll, and he will go away.

This could never happen. I have it on good authority that legitimate filibusters have ways of shutting down the nuclear option.

Dems, he made an appropriate analogy.. What he said is true, now that it no longer takes a STRONG majority at 60% to pass changes, no rules really exist. A simple majority will make CRAZY things happen. Let me tell you this, Trent Lott held off in 2003 and Reid should have now... When the Republicans are in, you will rue the day because all of a sudden, all rules will be up for Review.. The Dems have opened Pandora's Box and we will be at war in the Senate because of it.

Rush is a moron and should not be on the radio anymore, he's a disgrace to the Republican party and needs to spot belittling women!! He needs a math class. 51 out of 100 is a majority, 5 out of 10 is a stalemate, even little kids know when a piles iare equal and what ones have more in them.

Democracy is a system that says mainly, the majority wins and there are times when minorities need protection on moral or whatever grounds.
I don't say do away with the filibuster... but when you do it there has to be a coherent logical reason connected specifically to the matter under consideration. Then, if you go ahead, face the consequence that you have to offer legislative amendments based on your filibuster and you have three months to get those thru committee(S) by a 60 % majority. Any that do so get put as amendments to the filibustered bill. And voted in the House/ Senate up or down. Senate or house committee members may not change their committee vote on presentation in the full House or Senate. Nor may the House or Senate refuse to put the bill on schedule for an up down vote.
that's a real way to exercise advise and consent, and government of for and by the people.

So the republicans are now comparing majority rule to rape? Wow. So what was it when the minority got to get their way?

This blowhard is why the FCC needs to bring back the fairness doctrine. They are owned by the public and should not be used to push extremist ideology. It is a shame that Reagan created this blowhard by allowing the nutjobs to dominate the public airways.

Based on Rush logic(an oxymoron), if a 100 person group is voted into the Senate, by the voters, and that group is 80% the "Hair Party" and 20% the the "Makeup Party", there should be at least 89% approving any vote in that Senate, unless...the "HairParty" is Rush's Party of choice and then 51% of the vote is just fine.

When President Cruz nominates Scalia's 45 year old clone to replace the late Ruth Ginsburg on a bare majority vote, Democrats will finally grasp what they've done. It's only obstructionism when they hold the majority. When they're in the minority, it's democracy protecting minority rights.

Talk about democracy the 45 senators that oppose Obama were also voted into office. If you have to disregard over 200 years of precedence to get your agenda passed then is it worth it?
