Nearly a year after Sandy Hook, nation remains torn about what to do next

"We're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics," he said.

Nothing will get done until it actually affects a member of Congress' family. Sad truth.

If you are in the GOP, do nothing. Having more emotional attachement to several pieces of stamped metal than to human life is a sign of a lack of moral fiber: in other words, cowardice. The GOP, the party of minimal risks and morals.

And, he kept that promise. Unfortunately, the actions were completely undermined by the NRA and the folks who think the Bill of Rights begins with the 2nd Amendment.

Sadly, not even that extreme is suficient. Gabby Giffords is living proof of it.

The nation doesn't remain torn. It's the NRA $$$$$$$ and greed over people's lives that makes it seem like it's torn.
Funny how their slobbering fool was for background checks and no assault rifles before he was so against it!

It is clear the Democrats want to repeal the Second Amendment so should immediately start on that task. Meanwhile the rest of us will work on repealing the 16th Amendment.

It's pathetically ironic that after the Sandy Hook shooting, all the repubs were concerned about mental health – when under their Saint Ronnie, social spending was dramatically cut, forcing states all across the country to close state mental hospitals.

Repubs don't give a damn about their guns and making money, regardless of the consequences to anyone or anything.

To all the lefties on here:

Apparently one of your own, Marie MD, believes it's a "fetish" to be attracted to an African American male. A fetish. I found that comment very telling and insightful...

90% of the Country favors Extended Background Checks. We're supposed to be a Representative Form of Govt. Tell that to Repub. Senators.
