McDonnell talks mental health, attorney general's race

(CNN) - Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell weighed in on the commonwealth's mental health system Tuesday, more than a week after state Sen. Creigh Deeds' son stabbed his father repeatedly before killing himself.

In an interview with radio station WTOP, the Republican governor also said he thinks the GOP candidate in the Virginia attorney general's race should request a recount after official results Monday showed the Democrat won by a razor-thin margin.

Supreme Court to take up Obamacare contraception case

Washington (CNN) - The high-stakes fight over implementing parts of the troubled healthcare reform law will move to the U.S. Supreme Court in coming months, in a dispute involving coverage for contraceptives and "religious liberty."

The justices agreed on Tuesday to review provisions in the Affordable Care Act requiring employers of a certain size to offer insurance coverage for birth control and other reproductive health services without a co-pay.

Poll: Ohio governor ahead in hypothetical matchup against Dem

(CNN) - Republican Gov. John Kasich of Ohio has an advantage over a Democratic challenger in next year's gubernatorial election, but that margin is narrowing and less than half of voters believe Kasich deserves re-election, according to a new poll.

A Quinnipiac University survey released Tuesday shows the incumbent governor has a 44%-37% lead over Democratic candidate and Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald.

NY Polls: Cuomo in strong 2014 position but trails Clinton in 2016 race

(CNN) - New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo's in a strong position to win re-election next year, two new polls suggest.

But one of the surveys also indicates that among New York state Democrats, Cuomo's a distant second to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who represented the Empire State for eight years in the U.S. Senate, when it comes to their pick for their party's presidential nominee in 2016.

Delivering remarks at the animation studio headed by one of his top financial backers, Obama called the entertainment industry "one of the bright spots of our economy," employing thousands of Southern Californians who create a top American export.
