Obama approval higher than Bush, but lower than Clinton, Reagan

Washington (CNN) - Forty-one percent.

That's where President Barack Obama's approval rating stands this Thanksgiving, according to a new CNN Poll of Polls that averages the latest national surveys asking Americans to assess the job he is doing.

Fifty-five percent say they disapprove of his performance, according to the average.

The latest CNN Poll of Polls was released Thursday and is an average of five non-partisan, live operator, national surveys of the President's approval rating conducted over the past two weeks.

They include Gallup's daily tracking poll (Nov. 24-26); CNN/ORC International (Nov. 18-20); American Research Group (Nov. 17-20); CBS News (Nov. 15-18) and ABC News/Washington Post (Nov. 14-17). Since it is an average of multiple surveys, the CNN Poll of Polls does not have a sampling error.

The President's approval rating reached new lows or tied his all-time low in national surveys released over the past month from CNN/ORC (41%), CBS News (37%), ABC News/Washington Post (42%), Quinnipiac University (39%), National Journal Heartland Monitor (38%), and NBC News/Wall Street Journal (42%).

So how does his approval ratings compare to his most immediate two-term predecessors?

"Obama gets significant worse numbers than Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan did at this time in their second terms," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Clinton's approval rating was 59% in November 1997, and Reagan's figure was 65% in November 1985. But Obama is slightly outpacing George W. Bush, whose rating had fallen to 37% in November of 2005."

The approval rating is generally considered the best polling gauge of a President's standing among the public and of his political clout in the nation's capital.

I find Obama is doing a great job ever since he took office. Nobody in politics could of cleaned up George Bush's mess, when he was done with his second term.

Well, it's inching back up. You can't say that about the Tea party and Republicans.

How is it possible that the approval rate is still so high? Some people can't think obviously.

Our media-generated POTUS is so incompetent and out of the mainstream that even his press can't help him now (and lord knows they continue to try).

-all these polls are bs. ACA is a Law. It will not go. It is a national dire need. GOP is pretty much gone to dogs for another fifty years. No fool will ever vote for GOP garbage.

The GOP will get what they desevre in 2014. A real kick in the head ! they have tried to take this president down by going against everthing that he stands for. All this guy wants to do is to make sure that Americans are properly covered when it comes to health care. Wants to make sure the insurance company can't gauge your eyes out so to speak. And you know what THEY DO , ... I used to work in that field ! Every Western style democracy makes sure there people are covered. And they do it cheaper and more efficantly in most cases. And another thing, ....Funny thing about the GOP and there love of Reagan , ... if you put him in office today, he would be just a bit right of where this President it. If Chris Christy were elected President, (which he wont cause he could not get the GOP nomination) Christy would be a moderate , ...just like this guy is believe it or not !!!

And the only thing that the 41%ers can delusionally claim about Obo, is that he's still cleaning up from Bush. It's pretty sad that we've 41% of the population that addle-brained.

Pretty sure they have those numbers reversed. More Obamanomics, no doubt!

What is the margin of error for this poll? +/- what percent? If it's greater than 4%, his approval rate is statistically the same as GW Bush.

I fully agree with "Steve" comment above. In addition to that, I fully support National Pre K for ALL, so that all future citizens will become better educated overall.

Higher than this, lower than that, Why care? Either the person is doing the job they are hired to do or they are not. Obama a Harvard trained whatever and his Democratic elected counterparts were sent to Washington to govern. That normally includes writing and implementing laws. None of the current crop of Democrats were able to write a healthcare law that has been able to be implemented indicating that THEY CANNOT do the job they were hired to do. They lied, everyone lied about their ability. FIRE THEM ALL A.S.A.P. Incompetence hurts us all regardless of political leaning.

In my lifetime at least I have never seen this country in such bad shape and so divided. From the top down this country lacks a leader. One important part of a real leader is the ability to bring people together. This administration is like someone tripping over everything on their way to the exit door.

I am not an Obama supporter and voted against him but lately I have been very supportive of his policies, at least the intent behind his policies such as immigration reform, health care and his deal with Iran. He is taking on the parasitic health care and pharmaceutical criminals and the military industrial complex that is just bent on creating wars and misery for emerging countries, particularly those that are not white. Once the media is against you in America it means you are on the right track.

Reality finally catching up to this Incompetent in Chief. I know some of you are loyalty blind and you would still like him even if he came to your house and stole your turkey, but please! Think how you would assess the competency of this president if he had done (or not done) everything he has but was Republican. And we should not be done yet, plenty of room for him to keep sliding in the polls, as he should.

Give me the good old days of George Bush when the unemployment rate was 4.5% and when he had the guts to go after a murdering thing in Iraq. Of cours the Dems in congress voted to go there also, so don't blame Bush for your ill concieved opinion when he had the help of the libs in congress ??? Anyone who thinks Obama is better then Bush, must be demented or blind and dumb ???? Hope we can survive another three years with his inept lack of leadership. He has done one thing well, and that is to make Jimmy Carter look good and I thought I would never say of think that ??? Can't believe 40% of the people think Obama is doing a good job. Wake up and stop living in a make believe world and look at the facts. His approval rating should be 10%, but that may be a little high ???
