Michelle Obama welcomes the White House Christmas tree

(CNN) - First Lady Michelle Obama, along with daughters Sasha and Malia and dogs Bo and Sunny, welcomed the official White House Christmas tree Friday.

The 18.5-foot-tall Douglas fir will go in the White House Blue Room. Chris Botek, the third-generation Christmas tree grower from Crystal Spring Tree Farm in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, and his family, were at the White House when the tree from his farm arrived. Last year's tree was from a farm in North Carolina.

A White House tradition, the tree was delivered by carriage to the North Portico.

"We're honored to have it. This is the best part of the holiday season is when our tree comes," the First Lady said.

I wonder if the right wing lie machine will say it is just to detract from the war on Chtistmas. We know that the real right wing war machine will still wage their non stop war on Chtistians.

@Tampa Tim: I'm sure they will. And here's a preemptive comment to "Free Man in the Republic of Texas" who lately has been spewing the lie about during the government shutdown WHICH THE GOP CAUSED there was no money for the widow and children of a Marine killed in action, but "plenty of $$$ for Planned Parenthood and navigators for OBAMA CARE":

He and all the other Obama-haters need to Google H.R. 368 to learn how the GOP guaranteed the shutdown would happen – a shutdown that closed National Parks World War II monuments and affected the benefit pay of fallen soldiers.

Source: There's an article from the International Business Times that explains how the GOP made a small rule change to their procedures that not only guaranteed there would be a government shutdown, but made it impossible for anyone except the House Majority Leader (Eric Cantor) able to call for a vote on the continuing resolution that would end the shutdown. Here's the added language:

"Resolution 59 may be offered only by the Majority Leader or his designee.”

Previously, clause 4 of rule XXII could be brought up by any member of the House of Representatives to push a bill forward despite disagreements.

So these supposed "defenders of freedom" changed the rules so no one but Cantor could call for the vote on the CR. And they have the nerve to say President Obama is a "dictator!"

So, Mr. Free Man, try turning off Fox and Hannity and Levin and all the other liars and grow a pair. You'll need them to accept the REALITY that the repubs are the ones who've been harming our country with their obstruction and childish games.

Beautiful tree (and I love the pups!)! I can hardly wait to see how the volunteers decorate it this year – they always do a fantastic job.

I am so tired of the President and Congress telling me what WE NEED. I do not need to have to pay for millions of illegal immigrants now when we cant even provide for the citizens we have. Put it to a vote. We will see what the citizens really want

This is the best time of year to see Malia and Sasha. I would really love to meet the Obamas
some day as I have never seen the President or his family in person.
An early Merry Christmas to all of them.

Well, lets look at your lack of logic.
First, according to the CBO, Immigration reform GENERATES revenue for the U.S. government, and reduces the deficit because people now pay taxes, buy health insurance etc.
Second- as to why we can't take care of our own. Well, duh, the rich still have the lowest tax rate in 60 years, and corporations pay about 5% of total government revenue- also the lowest in 60 years. The Right is trying to curb the size of government via tax cuts. Nevermind that the government (measured by # of employees) hasn't been this small since 1978.
Seeing as you don't know how are country got in the shape its in, maybe its a good thing someone tell you what to do. Better the Government that the plutocrats of the GOP IMHO.

@laceys, this is about the WH Christmas tree but since you started it.. As a woman I don't want the white old men in congress or anywhere else telling me what I need or not need to do with my body. That's way more intrusive than illegals immigrants, or what you people see when you see grown skin forgetting that there are plenty of white illegal immigrants in the US.
Merry Christmas to the First Family and their doggies.

I am so tired of republicans trying to hurt our country by taking away our safe guards to help those who least need it.
