Landrieu under attack for filibuster vote

(CNN) - A conservative group says it's spending six figures over the next two weeks to run a TV commercial in Louisiana that criticizes Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu over her support of Presidential Barack Obama's judicial nominees.

"Mary Landrieu voted for every one of Obama's liberal activist judges," the narrator says in the 30-second spot by the Judicial Crisis Network.

The group also goes after Landrieu, who could face a challenging re-election next year, for supporting a measure that lowered the threshold for ending Republican-led filibusters in the Senate.

"Landrieu even helped change the rules to pack a key court with new liberal judges who will review Obamacare, the EPA, the IRS, and agencies Obama is using to push his unconstitutional job killing agenda," adds the narrator.

Under the old rules, it took 60 votes to break a filibuster of presidential nominees. The change means a simple Senate majority of 51 now suffices in the chamber that Democrats currently control with a 55-45 majority. The change affects presidential executive nominations such as ambassadors and agency heads, along with judicial nominations except for Supreme Court nominees. It does not include filibusters of legislation.

"The latest blatantly false attack ad by the Judicial Crisis Network attacks Sen. Landrieu for voting to confirm judicial nominees, whom were confirmed with bipartisan majorities, while shockingly claiming that Landrieu voted to confirm two nominees that never received a vote, and were never even confirmed," said an email by Landrieu's campaign, in response to the new commercial.

"The ad goes on to accuse Sen. Landrieu of packing the court with liberal judges, another completely false claim that has already been slammed once by Politifact as 'false.' "

This is the second recent ad by the Judicial Crisis Network to go after a vulnerable Democratic Senator up for re-election in 2014 in a Republican-leaning state. They went up with a spot last month that targeted Sen. Mark Pryor of neighboring Arkansas.

The Washington Post was first to report on the new commercial.

Reform Filibuster, voter reform, immigration, tax-code, infrastructure, watch out NY sub-way system, fix–pres.obama, we dearly love you–you have guts to fix these–let GOP thugs cry–this for the good of the nation.
PS: some states are dividing voter areas to win, NC is another third world under Pat McRory idiot.

Yeah, good luck with that teabag toddlers. The Landrieu name carries a lot of weight in Louisiana. No matter how much $$$ you toss down that toilet, you'll never come up with a candidate who can defeat her.

And what whackadoodle criteria is needed to be a conservative nominee? A collection of autographed copies of Ayn Rand? Certainly not an understanding of the Constitution.

"to pack a key court with new liberal judges"

to obey the law and fill 3 vacancies that Obama has a statutory duty and the constitutionally granted power to fill.

    FIFY, LIARS.

It's not "court packing" when there are vacancies that the law mandates be filled. It IS "court packing" to try to prevent any of those vacancies from being filled simply because the existing make-up of the court swings in your ideological favor and you're desperately trying to preserve that advantage....to the point of abusing process to nullify the POTUS's constitutional powers.

Obama, the "Great Uniter" who was supposed to "usher in an era of unprecedented cooperation", has failed to establish working relationships with other politicians. So since he can't get his votes he needs, he gets Reud to lower the bar.
    Epic Fail!
Like the kid that goes crying to his mommy iff the soccer field saying that the other kids are mean. Then daddy removes the goalies and if you kick the ball, you score.

My dear, this thread is attached to an article about Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu. Your ODS has become so serious that you have to make everything about him. Seriously, seek help before your disease becomes terminal.

OMG !!! A conservative group putting money into defeating a Democrat??? Must be illegal or at the very least unethical.

How much outside liberal $ was poured into Virginia to smear Mccollugh's opponent with lies and false attack ads? How many millions were spent by outside liberal groups in a desperate attempt to defeat Gov. Walker in Wisconsin's recall election? The folks who get their news from the NYT and CNN etc. don't know the answer to these questions because these liberal propaganda faux news outlets DON'T REPORT IT.

Let's see how much weight Landrieu's actions carry in the next 11 months. A couple of overly liberal DC circuit court of appeals rulings and she could be in trouble. Same goes for Obamacare. If they don't fix the whole website by 23rd December she is in trouble as at the moment there are issues with people paying for their insurance, which unless it is fixed people will lose coverage.

Repo base is getting smaller so go a head repos .keep playing to your base. two more elections and Texas will be blue.

The dictator is being enabled by many people in many ways, and that is going to have a severely detrimental impact on the country, and the people of America.

The voters have to wake up to what is really happening.........we have a dictator trying to seize total control of this country.

    Humm,
After 100 years of Big Liberal Policies put in place why are we in the fix we are in? Everything was supposed to be running smoothly by now. So, Liberal's/Progressives/Democrats what happened? Why do we have a 17 Trillion Dollar Federal Debt? With Big Liberal Programs there should be no debt. As long as the Inmates are running the Asylum, expect no changes. Mary Landrieu may be between a Rock and a Hard place. Your job may be downsized.

"Please, these Repubs want to talk about changing the rules? How bout we talk about the rule change in the House right before the government shutdown? Hmm???"

I'm sorry, but the MSM has blacklisted any discussion of GOP/Teatroll wrongdoing, just as they've declared it anathema to use the word "lie" about anything they say, despite throwing it around willy-nilly when a Dem says something untrue. "Fair and balanced" means "forcing the narrative to sound like two equal sides are arguing two equally legitimate points." This preserves the ability to sensationalize the story as a controversy. Reporting that GOPers/Teatrolls are lying or dong things that are underhanded (while hypocritically accusing Dems of doing so) would be like the MSM sticking a rubber stopper in their controversy faucet. The GOP/Teatrolls are their dealers, and oh boy are they addicted. IOKIYAR

The single biggest thrieat to the world, is not global warming, but over-population......we have gone from 1 to 7 billion people in 100 years and are expected to go to 60 billion in the next 100.....The GOP ultra conservative philosophy of overturning Roe V Wade would result in an explosion of "unwanted" children, costing our country trillions of dollars in entitlements, and is the single biggest economic calamity we are faced with......the christian far right wing must be slowed down and not allowed to over populate and ruin our great country.

"Why do Republicans keep doing stuff that only appeals to their base?"

They're implicitly admitting that they recognize that everyone else thinks they suck. It's that simple...and that pathetic. Their "outreach" attempts are silly at best, come across as disingenuous, are often entirely tone-deaf and frequently insensitive or insulting, so they instead spend all of their time trying to figure out ways to prevent "everyone else" from voting. They refuse to change and adapt and think they can beat back demographic changes with tricks. I say let them joust that windmill.

At the very core of this new Republican lie is the funny notion that President Obama is "Liberal" or that the core of those who work in his administration or carry out its policies at "Liberal", or that "Liberal" is even a bad thing.

The wackos of the Right naturally stake out such positions, but as is so often, this isn't reality- just their delusion.
Obama per se isn't Liberal, although he is more liberal that the Right and its out-of-control rightward spinout.
The GOP is just trying to justify their obstruction. I think after 5 years we've all pretty well seen what they're about.

geez, Gunderson, you used to say 80 years until I suggested it was 100. Why stop there? Why not trace it back to Hamilton using the power of his office tos top the first financial panic in American history? I guess you are of the mind that nothing should ever be done to solve problems on a national scale. If that attitude would not work in the Washington administration, what makes you think that will work now? Its clear you know nothing about the history of banking, politics and business in this country. Go back to using your fake ethinic-speak, since that clearly is a better use of your " talents" than actually offering up a worthwhile opinion.
