Boehner rejects 'do nothing' label for this Congress

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner rejected the label that this is a "do nothing" session of Congress, telling reporters Tuesday on Capitol Hill, "we've done our work."

Boehner pointed the finger at the Democratic-led Senate for holding up legislation. "When you look at the number of bills passed by the House and the paltry number of bills passed by the Senate, you can see where the problem is."

The House of Representatives is in session for seven more days before the end of 2013. The Senate doesn't return from its extended Thanksgiving break until next week and plans to be in Washington for two more weeks this year.

There is a long list of items that Congress has failed to complete this year, including a farm bill, immigration reform, a defense measure, and a budget deal to avoid another potential government shutdown in January

House Democrats lay the blame squarely on House Republicans for failing to work across party lines to reach compromise on those issues–and they add other examples, such as a bill banning employment discrimination on the basis of sexual identity or gender, and measures to enhance background checks for gun purchases.

"This session of Congress may prove to be the least productive in perhaps over a half of century," House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer told reporters Tuesday.

But Boehner cited several measures the House has passed that await action in the Senate and maintained any lack of progress was the upper chamber's fault.

"The way this system of government works, both the House and the Senate have to do their jobs. The House continues to do its job; it's time for the Senate to get serious about doing theirs."

Put it this way Mr. Speaker.
If your Salary were tied to your productivity.
You would not be getting paid.

You can call it anything you like.

The Speaker would reject it...on the grounds he is the worst speaker of the house ever. The speaker is the one that has the power to get things done. He clearly doesn't have any power....the proof is that he has let the Tea Party push him and other Republicans around to get there agenda. a Tea Party agenda which to me looks more like destroying the government rather than fixing it as they said they would.

Is this idiot sober when he makes statements like these??? Instead of "do nothing", I'd say "most useless". And Mr. Boehner is, without a doubt, the worst speaker ever. But, hey! Thank God for gerrymandering! Right, Johnny???

THIS is what I love about this blog...Give and take from both sides of the aisle from people who have been on here for quite a while. It's great to have new voices on here, but has anyone else noticed hundreds of new posters who bash Obama and then disappear. Coincidence? I smell a rat named ROVE!

The "Orange Man Group" has contributed absolutely nothing of consequence for years. What it has contributed is at it base the most destructive mumbo jumbo I can recall in many, many years. No election results, poll results, etc. can convince them that they're so disconnected from reality. Is it pure ignorance? In part, yes. The bigger part, I fear, is where the money comes from. The Koch brothers and others are trying to buy their way to an inconsequential government that gets completely out of their way. A "paid for" government that plays only an advisory role in the daily doings of the most powerful corporations and individual players. The flip side to the money situation are members of congress squeezing corporations for money. This is happening. Pay attention and watch for more on this story. I don't care what your political leanings are, if you're not concerned with the path this country and it's government are on you're simply not paying attention. The great political split our public participates in daily is the "Great Distraction" that keeps the masses preoccupied with counterproductive and at times vile discourse. The choice is ours.

Boehner's accomplishments as Speak of the House:
    * Attempted to rescind ACA 42 times...unsuccessfully.
    * Failed to get his Keystone Pipeline bill passed because it only favored wealthy GOPers.
    * Voted to allow the government shutdown.
But he will point the finger across the aisle, EVERYTIME.

the republicans did work very hard. they passed bills ending the affordable care act 100's of times-they cut food stamps - they cut medical research-they cut food inspection– they named post offices–they devised a calendar that protected them from having to have congress in session–they can "work" in their home town by having "town meetings" attended by preselected people in order to get press coverage that shows how hard they work and how much they "love" the people. also and most important they raised their pay. wow–what a great record!!!

"House Speaker John Boehner rejected the label that this is a "do nothing" session of Congress, telling reporters Tuesday on Capitol Hill, "we've done our work."

And by "our work" he of course means... stumbling, fumbling, grandstanding, blocking, deterring, handicapping, hindering, faux-fillerbustering, obstructing, impeding, interfering, burdening, shackling, stopping, cramping, clogging, etc etc etc ANYTHING positive that The President and/or the Democrats/Moderates and the American citizens want done regardless of how it will improve the present and the future, all the while crumbling to the whims, desires, and demands of the ultra-right-wing-conservative-"christian"-holier-than-thou-"family"-values-GOP-Tea-Party-fanatical-extremists! Yep, gotta tell you they have been VERY busy at getting "done" what Boehner calls "our work"!

"What world is Boehner living in?"

    Take your pick:

    1. Washington "media-insider" bubble.

    2. GOP "media-insider" bubble.

    3. John Boehner "insider" bubble.

    All three work for me.

Lets see annual salary of $175,000 x 235 house republicans = about 41 million we can apply to the deficit they are so concerned about if we fire them all. Would any of us still have jobs if we did what they did this pass year???

As Speaker, Boehner makes much more than that. If memory serves, he makes around $235,000 per year.

  13. GOP Sucks

I'm sure Boehner denies that republicans are, by and large, racists.
Certainly not all of them are, but enough are to paint the rest pretty poorly.

Boehner, the reason that the Senate uses more filibusters is because the GOP is in the minority in the Senate. Why would the House who's in the majority need to use filibusters? You know this, be serious

This guy Boehner really is in the dark. I honestly think he's delusional. Perhaps too many crying sessions. No wonder congress is dysfunctional, they have guys like this leading the government. Oh wait, they did pass 42 or 43 bills.....repealing the ACA. Boehner is undoubtably the most incompetent speaker of the House in history. Move over Newt, we have a new King of stupid.

It would seem that Democrats have proven in the past 5 years that:

    1) No matter what lies a democrat politician tells, they forgive them.
    2) No matter what scandals come up they excuse them.
    3) No matter that the Economy is bad, but we'll show you a card trick to "look at my other hand".
    4) Life is better because my kids can't get a job and can hang on their parents coattails until 26. Is this good for the parents?
    5) We can't even make the website work, we give bad data to the insurance companies, how do you think the health care is going to go? Really!

Remember Blame the Republicans...Blame the Republicans...Blame...nothing can go WORNG!

Robots, Lemmings or just stupid, the jury is out.

Mr. Speaker...It's hard to argue that you are a "do-nothing" congress when you SHUT DOWN GOVERNMENT INSTEAD of doing your job. THEN paid yourself for doing nothing.
