Dems to Obama: Suspend deportations

Washington (CNN) – While immigration reform is stalled in Congress, some members are calling on President Barack Obama to take the matter into his own hands, urging him to suspend deportations of undocumented immigrants.

Thirty Democratic members of Congress wrote in a letter that he has the authority to pause deportations of undocumented immigrants, urging "the sensible and moral step of stopping deportations."

We need to deal with this now.

There are people we welcome to this country, and there are those we need to deport .

And we must stop the anchor baby industry .

    Sustainability , legality , fairness , compassion .

"Although Obama has used his discretion to save some from deportation, he has aggressively expanded the program. He has expelled more people than any other president: For instance, 410,000 people were deported in 2012."

    "the sensible and moral step"

    Okay... wait for it....

Here it comes, the republicants wil be, "Outraged! outraged, I say" that the President is once again taking steps to do sensible and moral policies.

Rand Paul- "Either the President stops thiese sensible and moral steps immediately, or I will steal someone else's ideas and make a a speech. I mean it."

Durwood Issa- "We need to do a thorough investigation into these highly questionable 'sensible and moral steps', and I will not rest until I get to the bottom of this... oh, look, a butterfly."

Ted Cruz- "It is a train wreck. A train wreck, Obamacare is a train wreck. And now, this President is already wanting to do more sensible and moral steps on immigration. This must stop, or I will read, 'Dum Ditty Dum Ditty Dum Dum Dum' on the Senate floor with this strange look on my face, like I'm crapping sideways and liking it."

(These were a joke, I'm talikmg about the right wing posters who will be outraged over any sensible and moral steps... they hate those).

No, don't do it, Mr. President. Don't listen to your short sighted colleagues. You've been very consistent with leaving the more controversial actions to the Congress, instead of using executive order. Case in point, invading Syria.

I'm a "leftie" and I still think this is a very bad idea. Leigh Ann Caldwell's article, some of which does not appear here,
included that some expert said that "while he has discretion, ending all deportations would be abusing his discretion".

They essentially are saying "Mr. President, you don't have to obey the laws"...........just walk through the
land mines and cross your fingers.

Sorry, but President Obama is smarter than that, and they are wrong to send him this letter.

That's just my humble opinion..doesn't mean much.

  9. The REAL Truth...

@Tommy G – let deal with some FACTS here tommy... illegals are here because pro-Republican SMALL (and LARGE) BUSINESSES need their CHEAP LABOR!! Simple. Until Americans do NOT consider the work these folks do (or the pay they get for it) to be beneath them, it will continue. Those businesses will NOT PAY a living wage, why would they when they can get the same for less.. Heck, even 35% of Mickey' D's employees are on welfare (and they made MORE than $7 BILLION profit in 2012) because they don't pay a living wage – so American's will mostly NOT DO the kind of work illegals do. Sure, evict and deport the criminal element, but pls don't parrot rw talking points you know to be false.

Tommy – Simmer down little fella. First you refuse to follow the law of the land (ACA), now you are going to stop paying taxes and break another law? You are becoming a member of the lawless band of criminals you refuse to support.

Let them all in. Give them subsidized health insurance and subsidized housing. Don't ask them to learn a language or, god forbid, assimilate into the existing culture. Everyone who is here legally and contributes their fair share is excited at the prospect of paying even higher premiums and higher taxes, aren't you Ol' Yeller. Oh, but wait, it probably doesn't affect your pocket book, does it? Look at it this way, they might just be taking some of your freebies........

Like I said, we don't even have to round them up, just deport the ones you catch now, instead of just letting them go, as they do now. Their hearing would be expedited and they would be required to remain in custody until deported.

And YOU still haven't answered my question, even if new immigration laws are passed will YOU support deporting every single illegal caught here after the new law is passed? Or will it be sanctuary cities still?
    -------------------------
No, Tommy. You advocated rounding them up by hunting them down. We have no laws on the books that support that sort of police brutality, thank God. No one is letting them go free. Try getting the facts, instead making yourself look foolish by repeating the right wing media's confabulated talkling points.

Your question has no answer because the law would allow a legal means for them to stay instead of being rounded up like dogs, and tossed over the border into Mexico, whether they came from there or not, as the extremists so often advocate.

"Obama has shifted the type of immigrants targeted for deportation. While the administration of President George W. Bush targeted working immigrants by raiding workplaces, Obama is focusing on convicted criminals and "egregious" immigration violators, including recent border-crossers and illegal re-entrants."

    This I do support 100%.

""Although Obama has used his discretion to save some from deportation,"

Although Obama has used his discretion to PRIORITIZE deportation, because the executive branch only receives sufficient funding for approximately 400,000 deportations per year and we're better off deporting dangerous felons, etc., than harmless children...

Which is why the private prison industry is p-ssed and spends all kinds of money on GOPers/Teatrolls in states like AZ.
