Show me the January when that happened over the past 5 years and I'll show you Bush's recession.

Let me be a little more clear for you: you should be paid commensurate to the skill set you bring AND the job that is available. Is that better? You are priceless. I love how you latch on to one minor point while ignoring the rest of the comment which is quite reasonable. Unless you feel that you should be paid more for doing a job that does not require a tremendous amount of skill. Again, start at minimum wage, prove yourself and get promoted. Voila! No more minimum wage.

And your definition of what they're "worth" is "zero" because they bring "zero" skills to the table. What they're "worth" in your mind is receiving less than subsistence wages that barely feed, clothe and house themselves or their families: i.e., less than it requires to survive as a human being, which is why we all know and understand that you guys consider them subhuman. We get it, tom. You're just regurgitating what we all know about the conservative mindset.

    May I?

A job using their hands. Digging the ground, moving and cutting trees, picking up garbage from the roads, cleaning and there are a lot more. I am not suggesting these jobs require no thinking or communication skills but there are jobs for reading skills of a "4th grade level". Everyone can make a living if they apply themselves.

"Anytime and I do mean anytime this country is not losing jobs it is a blessing and I don't care if the president is a democrat or a republican or if its seasonal or unseasonal. People are working. WORKING."

Yeah, well, Bill O'Reilly has the right wing all upset that their "Happy Meals" might go up in price. He's sent his groupies out in force to "school" us.

This might be a good time for me to apologize for way back when I first worked at McDonalds. I started a $.95 an hour. Shortly thereafter, minimum wage increased to $1.25. Yeah. It was my first job ever. Had I known that I might have caused some sucker to pay more for their hamburger (no Happy Meals back then) I would have asked to be kept on a $.95 wage. Of course, gas was $.25 a gallon back then (and so on and so forth). My how times have changed and prices increased over the years.

I am truly sorry for the inconvenience my wage increase most certainly caused in increasing the price of hamburgers.

For those who ended up paying more for the burgers, please accept my apology.

    Tom I-
Has it occured to you that 1978 was just two short years from the introduction of Republican "cut-tax-and-spend" (aka Voodoo) economics? Has it not occured to you that the labor market has changed (just a bit) from 1978? Have you failed to notice the decennial recession cycle (thanks to the GOP's "dribble-down" economics)?
Essentally you have indicted the prevelent GOP economic reality for the last 40 years?
Our Debt, our deficts- all root from this economic system. That we had economic growth (and reduction in debt) under Clinton, and now after 5 years of Repubblican non-participation in healing our economy we have the lowest unemployment speaks volumes to the disaster of Reagan, Bush II and todays GOP.
If the GOP plan worked (at all) after 40 years of pandering to the rich (pardon me, the "job creators") where are those jobs?
The GOP has failed at everything- figure it out.

Hmmmmm... well, yes... prices have increased over the years. A lot of that has to do with the watered down value of the dollar. Take that $.25 a gallon gas you speak of. Back in those days, the 25-cent piece was made of 90% silver. One of those quarters has a silver melt value of about $3.50 now, which is, ironically, just about what a gallon of gas costs. Amazing, huh?

The only non-conspiracy argument that I've seen on here about this story not being good news is that the labor participation rate is the lowest since 1978. If you look it be gender though it's a more interesting story. The rate for males has been dropping since the 50's. That's due to the lost labor and manufacturing jobs to globalization mostly. Females were rising with offset alot of that, but they've been essentially flat for the last decade or so. So then, if we take that as a baseline...that the unemployment rate is going down instead of up is, no matter how cut it, good news.

something doesn't add up with these figures. it takes about 250,000 new jobs just to tread watter with the unemployment rate. this shows only 80% of that number and jyt the unemplyment rates drops by.3%? something is just not right with these numbers. it is very likely these will changed downward next month as they almost always are with the obama administration. nobody will be looking then.

I can't even laugh at the stupidity posted this a.m. Over the last year, I've met so many people who lost their jobs mostly in 2008 and are just glad for "anything" offering them a paycheck but here we are, once again, defending good job numbers. Unbelievable.

Really? Is that why blue states are paying more in federal taxes than they receive in federal aid, while the red states leech up the difference by paying less in federal taxes than they receive in federal aid? The numbers show you have the situation entirely backwards. The red sates are the mooches and the rest of the country is subsidizing their illusion of solvency while they continue to lower taxes or refuse to raise them in order to get themselves and their citizens out of the hole. All in service to an ideology THAT HAS PROVEN UNWORKABLE. The numbers don't lie. The historical record does not lie. We've been living through the proof of it for the past several decades.

    ======

I never said their worth was zero. I never said they were subhuman. I said that what they're "worth" to the company is minimal because many many people can do that job. Different jobs have different skill sets that are needed. Some skill sets are easier to acquire, or you might have been born with a valuable skill set or you might have to go to school to grow your skill set. When a fast food restaurant hires someone to cook the food or to take the orders that doesn't require a tremendous amount of skill or experience. But you take that job and learn more, or get more experience, and make yourself more valuable to the company and you will earn more money. Shouldn't a person who is a lawyer make more money than the assistant of that lawyer? It's the exact same concept. The lawyer has more skills than the assistant and therefore should make more money. They bring more to the table. Minimum wage is an entry level job. Enter. Learn and get more experience. Get a higher paying job. What is so unreasonable about that?

And of course you provide ZERO evidence to back up this claim, as usual. Exactly what is included in these numbers? And what is NOT included? The devil (and lies) are always in the detail, just as they were when you posted your lies about Obama taking credit for deporting record numbers of illegals.

But many of the western red states don't even control their land. The federal government controls most of the land in many red states abd refuses to relinquish it to the state. How much of California, New York, Massachusetsts, New Jersey, etc. do the feds own and control? Almost nothing.
