Obama gives warm greeting to Brazilian president

(CNN) – While much was made about President Barack Obama's handshake with Cuban President Raul Castro at Nelson Mandela's memorial service, the U.S. leader also gave a warm greeting to Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, despite recent tension between the two countries.

As Obama took his place among other world leaders and dignitaries before he addressed the memorial, he shook hands, embraced and patted them on the shoulder. When Obama arrived at Rousseff, he kissed her on both cheeks

The U.S. and Brazil jointly agreed in September to postpone Rousseff's state visit to Washington - originally scheduled for October - over controversy over reports the U.S. government was spying on her communications.

Brazil protested disclosures of National Security Agency surveillance, which were included in media reports citing information apparently leaked by Edward Snowden, the former agency contractor who previously admitted leaking U.S. surveillance information to journalists.

A White House statement announcing the postponement said that Obama had previously ordered a thorough review of American intelligence activities, but it acknowledged that process would take several months to complete.

– CNN's Shasta Darlington contributed to this report.

Too bad Castro is the antithesis of Mandela – he has some nerve even being there as he has no respect for Freedom. Obama shaking his hand and smiling while an American languishes in a Cuban prison is a very disturbing sight. Anyone shaking his hand and acknowledging him legitimizes him and his regime and is, in my opinion, a slap in the face to Mandela's legacy.

"Brazil protested disclosures of National Security Agency surveillance"

And it was then publicized that Brazil was spying on diplomats from the US and other countries.

The whole thing is nonsense. Countries spy on each other. Ooooh, mindblowing revelation. Of course, CNN couldn't report on the other side of the coin here lest it ruin the nontroversy.

I used to go to CNN for my politics, which is a bit left of center. Now all I read is Tea Party garbage. I'm disappointed.

The Tea-Party extremists are the new bullies on the block. They are getting more air time than their numbers should dictate. They are loud, deaf to critics, brandishing their guns. Add a little religious fervor and fear of people different from them and you start to see similarity to the terrorists in the street anywhere in the world. Hopefully the American people can see through this bluster.

Looks like somebody doesn't know anything about history.... Might want to educate yourself instead of just listening to the propaganda.

"Shortly after the death of South African revolutionary Nelson Mandela, the South African Communist Party and the African National Congress both released official statements acknowledging what was already well-known among experts: “Comrade” Mandela was indeed a Communist Party leader who served on the Soviet-backed organization’s Central Committee. According to the Communist Party statement on Mandela’s passing, not only was the confessed terror leader a senior official on the South African Communist Party’s highest decision-making body, he was actually close to the outfit until his death."

Loud and constantly creating controversy are the top two items on the MSM's checklist of prerequisites for garnering attention. It's a symbiotic relationship between the MSM and Teatrolls, which is why none of the MSM will ever report on them in a way that shines a light on how misinformed they and their positions truly are. Instead, the MSM has been protecting and propping up the whole temper tantrum for 5 years so they can feed off it. They've got a whole 24-hour news cycle to fill up after all.

It is your duty Donna to time travel back to the 1950's and rat these guys out to "Joe" McCarthy.

I guess some would prefer our president act like a silly school yard kid who won't play or speak to the kid he does not like. Obama came in a spirit of peace which is exactly what Mandela stood for! All this crap about he was a terrorist because he spoke out and condemned the violence against his people by the "minority white government" took courage. He simply spoke to this people and the government as to how can his people be peaceful and demonstrate peacefully when war has been raged against them and in order to win the battle they too had to take up arms. Sounds much like what the tea baggers speak over here on a regular basis!!! Obama has more class than his critics could ever hope to have. There will only ever be a small number of great people who will walk again us Mandela was one and I know this will be a revelation, but Obama is one of those people too, if some can get past all the hatred and static!!!

Hmm. When George W. Bush did it, it was called keeping America safe. When it was revealed in 2005/2006 that the Bush administration was using highly illegal, unauthorized wiretaps [ that means without a court issued warrant ] America gave it an approval rating of well over 50%.

Thanks Steve I forgot about the "bowing" conspiracy. They all forced Obama to bow and then they exchanged fake birth certificates and discussed plans to dominate the planet through Health Insurance Laws and Death Panels.

We attack the messenger because the messenger lacks credibility: anyone who subscribes to the Rupert Murdoch propaganda machine lacks credibility from the get-go, since what they are accepting as facts is usually lies. If the Right thinks they are without bias, guess again.
