Senator's chief of staff arrested on child porn-related charges, authorities say

Updated 7:23 p.m., 12/11/13

(CNN) - U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander’s chief of staff was arrested on Wednesday on child pornography related charges, federal prosecutors said.

Jesse Ryan Loskarn, 35, was held pending a planned hearing on Thursday in federal court in Washington, according to a Justice Department statement.

"I am stunned, surprised and disappointed by what I have learned," Alexander, a Tennessee Republican, said in a statement earlier in the day, noting that his office is cooperating in the investigation.

Loskarn’s arrest by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service
was based on probable cause for possession and distribution of child pornography, the Justice Department said.

He was replaced in Alexander’s office.

No other details about the case were available.

I find it strange to associate this behavior with any political party,

Yes, but the right wing Republicans take such joy in telling everyone else how to live and are the first to condemn others.

Where's your article about Harry Reid getting visas for foreign nationals? I seemed to have missed it. Come on CNN, please report ALL the news.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Yeah, and the story about christie ordering several lanes of the GW Bridge closed for a "study" that NOBODY knew about because he was angry that the town's DEM Mayor didn't endorse him in his reelection.

This is the difference between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats duck and cover their guys when they screw up (look at the Bob Filner situation until media scrutiny made a stand with Filner untenable...or Barney Frank...or Garry Studds...) but Republicans pull the trigger quickly. Even really Bad Republicans like Alexander.

I'll be sure to bear that in mind the next time I see Mark Sanford or David Vitter being quoted. Do you like subsidizing those two moral lepers in Congress? What about the FL member who got busted for coke possession? He still has a job
, with the blessings of the GOP Lord.

Yeah, except Anthony Weiner wasn't into children. I would LOL at your equivalence fail but there's nothing funny about exploiting children.

A very good move by the Senator. Innocent until proven guilty is totally inapplicable here. Honesty and integrity of this senior Senator are more important than the personal interests of any of his aids.

I'm going to take a page from the GOP playbook and blame this GOP Senator and insinuate he was involved also, just like they do President Obama for every negative thing that happens.

Its funny how the comments on here from GOP followers trying to bring Dems into the discussion. Go ahead blame the Dems cause the GOP never can take responsibilities for their screw ups.

Don't worry. It's just the Republican, Ryan budget, scheme to provide health care for children as an alhernative to ACA.

@ lol no – – I totally agree with what you have said in your post – – it's going to be up to the internet / social media / twitter / FB / Linked – IN / & the whole 9 yards to change it.....And it's happening already – – – you will see it – when the 2014 mid terms rolls around, believe me.....It's going to be a Dandy – LOL – I've got a funny feeling that only ONE party will take control of Congress by then.....not sure on who, but it definitely won't be "split" like it is now.....when you have one part of congress controlled by one party, and the other part of congress being controlled by another party, the whole system is fractured most of the time, and when anything (and I mean anything) any bill reaches the POTUS Desk, he still has the "Last Word" in other words, he can reject it, or "accept" it ( The Bill) That's why there won't be much done, and haven't been much done, and their approval is at an all time low...

Yes, Obama made a Republican get into child porn to distract from the fact that Obamacare is working well now. That makes sense.

Humm, How long do you really think Fox News would have waited to bash this guy and his Party if it were a Democrat? It would have been Major story 24/7 5 minutes after it broke. They spent 3 weeks on Rep. Wiener and his photos of his underwear, but I will bet my last dollar that this will NEVER even be a topic on Hannity/Orally ETC ETC.

Ah, he hasn't been convicted of anything yet. Remember the presumption of innocence Senator?
    -----------------------------
Yeah, I'm sure he does. I'm also pretty sure that the Senator had a little sit down chitty-chat with the man. No doubt the Senator wanted to get to the bottom of it all. Whatever was said between the two, it would seem likely that it ended with the Senator demanding that the man turn in a formal resignation.
