Washington (CNN) - It was smooth sailing in the House, but things are looking much tighter in the Senate for a bipartisan budget proposal that aims to avert another government shutdown and relax sweeping forced spending cuts.
Still, despite strong opposition to the compromise from Republicans, supporters are within striking distance of rounding up the votes they need to pass it in the Senate by the end of this week.

stick it to the tea party trolls
The only people in favor of this budget are mostly savvy Republicans and some naive Democrats. Yes, naive. Some Democrats seem to think that they will be able to get what they want from Republicans later. Some have even said before 2014.
No one in government is fiscally responsible at this point in time. Absolutely no one.

I hope republicans begin to realize that unnecessary wars, tax cuts for the wealthy, bank bailouts, big oil subsidies, unfunded drug programs, and trickle down economics have created two thirds of our debt.
And here's how it will work:
The GOP/Teatrolls are now voting en masse to pass a budget that requires raising the debt ceiling in a couple months, but they are promising to refuse to raise the debt ceiling in a couple months (Ryan just spent all weekend promising exactly that...right after he helped make this deal that requires the debt ceiling to be raised).
Simple. The MSM won't reduce it to the bare bones facts like that because it highlights just how dishonestly, hypocritically, irrationally and self-serving the GOP/Teatrolls continue to behave.

Define " fiscally responsible", then: what actions would suit your definition, other than secession?

GOP/Teatroll "fiscal responsibility" plan:
Vote en masse for a 2 year compromise budget deal that requires raising the debt ceiling.
Threaten not to raise the debt ceiling, take it hostage and play brinksmanship games that hamper the economic recovery, damage the economy and might cause S&P, Moody's et al to once again downgrade the nation's credit rating.
Get no ransom, just like the last 2 times, because Obama's said he won't negotiate over the debt ceiling.
Profit(?).

Don't hold your breathe on that hope. Too many on the right simply recite the songs that they've been taught to sing, without understanding or caring about what the meaning of they're saying might be. Half of our current debt can be directly attributed to the Reagan tax cuts, and the Bush-43 tax cuts. Almost all of our problems with entitlement spending can be traced to the Reagan administration's "starve the beast" policies to make the programs collapse under their own weight.
Why make this move, to set up another shutdown, why can't people see the Republican party is taking a hard stance. This move will force another shutdown, crashing the economy is the most effecient way to hit middle class workers, crash their 401 k, the rich will profit, and inequality rises further yet.
Take it from the Tea party nuts. I will never vote for Republicans ever again.
Only a fool could make excuses for the gop now, their goal is to crash the economy and the rich will profit from it again, our 401 k, just a cash cow to the gop puppet masters. If there is one thing the Koch brothers can count on its the gop willingness to trash the middle class for gain.
"We need to find a better way to save $6 billion than take it out of the hides of our retired veterans," said Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Mississippi, who said he would vote against the bill.
Where was this concern when the House GOP's temper tantrum cost 4 times that much when they shut down the government?

@ cumulus..Crash the economy??? You dems and your ideology are doing the job to perfection. God forbid we jump in your way! Get at least 1/2 a clue.

Uh, seems someone has forgotten that it was the House GOP that cost the U.S. taxpayer and citizens 24 billion dollars trying to pass a bill to defund Obamacare(s) for the 43rd time! Stupidity-Doing the same thing 43 times and expecting a different outcome.
Dems crashing the economy? I suggest you buy a vowel. Vanna awaits.
