New polling low for Obama in crucial state

(CNN) - President Barack Obama's hitting a new low in the state that propelled him toward the White House.

The President's approval rating stands at 38% and his disapproval rating at 59% in a new Quinnipiac University poll of Iowa voters. The 39% figure is Obama's lowest approval rating in Quinnipiac polling in the Hawkeye State.

Obama's victory in the January 2008 Iowa caucuses rocketed the then-junior Senator from Illinois towards the Democratic presidential nomination and eventually the White House. Obama also won Iowa, which is considered a battleground state, in both the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections.

The new poll, which was released Wednesday morning, indicates that the President's approval rating stands at 45% among women but just 30% among men. The survey also shows a wide partisan divide, with 82% of Democrats but just 31% of independents and only 7% of Republicans in Iowa giving Obama a thumbs up on how he's performing in office.

"President Barack Obama twice carried Iowa and it was the Iowa Caucuses which began his march to the presidency, but if he were on the ballot here today he would be toast," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

The president's numbers could have an impact on next year's race for a Democratic-held open U.S. Senate seat in Iowa. Twenty-nine percent of those questioned said they see their vote in the 2014 Senate contest as a vote against the President, while just 14% say it's a vote in favor of Obama, with 54% saying the President's not much of a factor.

The Iowa poll's release comes one day after a new survey in New Hampshire found the President tying an all-time low. Obama stands at 31% approval among Granite State residents, according to a American Research Group poll. And the President's 60% disapproval rating is an all-time high in ARG polling. Obama won New Hampshire, which like Iowa is a swing state, in both the 2008 and 2012 elections.
The President's approval ratings started declining in most national surveys starting in June, as Obama dealt with one controversy after another.

There were leaks about National Security Agency surveillance as well as revelations about IRS targeting conservative groups. This all was followed by the disastrous roll out of Obamacare and controversy over Obama's promises that Americans could keep their current insurance coverage under the new health law if they chose. Many cannot.

    It's simple, you can't trust Obama on any subject. America is finally awakening to the madness the media has created.

    6 electoral votes in a mostly backwards conservative state full of GOPers/Teatrolls that hate gays and minorities. Obama won in a landslide of electoral votes. I think he and the Dem/liberals will survive just fine thanks.

    "today he would be toast"

    Depends on who he's hypothetically running against now doesn't it? Context matters. Polling robots love to extrapolate far further than their data actually allows.

    Pres. Obama is not up for re-election, but many on the right wing seem to think that he'll run for a third term. Let's see how well Gov. Christie goes over at the Iowa State Fair and all of those fried concoctions they serve, like deep fried sticks of butter.

    @Sniffit,

    "6 electoral votes in a mostly backwards conservative state full of GOPers/Teatrolls that hate gays and minorities"

    ====

    My father is from Des Moines. He doesn't hate gays nor minorities. In fact, I am one of 3 children. 1 married a minority and I'm dating a minority. He has only been loving and welcoming to them. You are doing exactly what you say is so bad. You are no better when you make a blanket statement about an entire state. Oh, and you make absolutely no sense with your comment since Iowa went to Obama in the 2012 election.

    You can make yourself feel better with posts like this but it should be troubling to you. Oh, and 31% of independents approve. That number is dismal.

    31% of independents approve. Spin away Sniffit.

    Obama. A man you can trust. Except:
    - Keeping your Healthcare policies when Obamacare is implemented
    - Keeping your doctor when Obamacare is implemented
    - The Obamacare would really be working by Dec 1st
    - The fact that he actually spent time with his uncle after years of claiming he did not know him
    - The fact that Benghazi was a planned assault by heavily armed militia rather than "a spontaneous group of protestors upset about the YouTube film"
    - Red Lines
    - The fact the IRS did target political groups
    - Etc., etc., etc.

    You have made me laugh a lot.You mean Ohio, Florida, PA and VA will turn red? How? Are you going to wake up one morning and find African-Americans or Latinos or Women are supporting GOP without the Party taking any initiative to change what they have been doing? You are stuck in only one issue: ACA. But not every individual is going to vote because of it.

    First off, very impressive with the Blazing Saddles reference. One of the best of all time. However, your assessment is a little off. What does Santorem have to do with this? Iowa voted for Obama vs. Romney. Sniffit's assessment is not only offensive, but makes no sense considering they voted for Obama.

    And one other thing, I have always appreciated that you don't throw out the race card but on this post you decide to go down that route. Gunderson (or whichever name he uses) has never made any racial comments (I could be wrong about that) so why would you make an accusation like that?

    I guessing they disapprove until they need the ACA for a child of theirs born with what would have been called a pr-existing condition or their 24, 25 year old college grad can't find a job but needs insurance or they themselves need the next surgery that would have maxed out their medical coverage in the past. Let's just see how the numbers work out then...

    @Name jk+gibberish – not at all sexist, are you? I look at the data and say that Republicans and Independents are much smarter than Democrats. Obama is flying the plane straight into the ground and yet Democrats continue to cheer him on.
    @ST – you are correct, however, many Americans WILL vote on a single issue such as abortion or how much "free" stuff they are being promised or the race of the individual running for office. If Americans don't wake up, begin to educate themselves about the candidates and make informed choices based on what is best for future Americans there will be no future Americans.....at least none that we would ever be able to recognize.....
