Utah judge denies stay on same-sex marriages

(CNN) - U.S. District Court Judge Robert J. Shelby in Utah has denied the state's request for a stay on his ruling that Utah's ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional, according to Mary Jane McNamee, Judge Shelby's courtroom deputy.

He held a hearing on the matter on Monday. McNamee tells CNN the judge will issue a written ruling later today. Shelby struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage last Friday.

If you are opposed to same sex marriage, don't have one. According to the Constitution, people have rights. Just don't impose your outdated beliefs on any one else.

What`s the point of voting if some radical judge just tosses the whole election. Btw, I would be saying the same thing if the state voted to allow same sex marrige and a radical judge tossed the results.

Why is it that the "keep government out of my life" crowd are the most ardent supporters of the idea that government has the duty to tell people how to live their lives?

Why is it that the "we are Constitution lovers" crowd are the same people most who seem to most completely disregard the 1st Amendment guarantee of freedom of religion?

Why is it that almost the entire right wing thinks that "establishment of religion" means government starting a religion, when the phrase is clearly synonymous with "house of worship?"

Good. Time to file some complaints for writs of mandamus on those conservative county offices who shut their doors and refuse to open until the appeals are exhausted, just because they don't want to issue the marriage licenses. They literally just closed up shop and put signs on the door that they'll be closed until the appeal is decided. As if they do nothing other than issue the marriage licenses. It's absurd and they should be forced to go back to work by a court order, issue the marriage licenses to which these people are entitled, do the rest of the job they're supposed to be doing OR told they no longer have a job. Biggest, most petulant group of take-the-ball-and-go-home babies ever. Stupid bigots.

You do realize that we are all governed according to the constitution? While it is still cute for some states to discriminate against some of its citizens, it is not constitutional.

Because only conservatives have the moral authority to decide what is right and wrong for everyone else. It matters not how unconstitutional their positions are, just as long as everyone lives by the social order that conservatives want to define.

Can we do a similar thing to those right wing, "we need to enforce the gun laws we already have books" sheriffs who refuse to enforce the gun laws that we already have?
