GOP weekly address: Happy holidays to the military

(CNN) – Republican Sen. Jim Risch of Idaho asked revelers Tuesday in the GOP weekly address to remember the men and women of the military in their holiday celebrations.

"As we reach for one of those gifts under the tree and untie a bow, I encourage all of us to remember the bountiful and most prized gifts we enjoy-the gifts of freedom and worship," Risch said.

"Our freedoms have been defended for more than 200 years by our men and women serving in uniform in the United States military. They serve in our homeland and in faraway places across the globe. Their sacrifices and those of their families allow us to live in the freest and most prosperous nation in the world."

Risch also asked Americans to remember the less fortunate.

"I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, happy holidays of all kinds and all the best for a wonderful new year," he said in conclusion.

Merry Christmas to the Troops from myself

I won't say that to the politicians in Washington who did nothing but screw the troops. Cutting their pensions was the worst thing they could do to the troops. Why not programs instead. These men and women put their lives on the line for us, and endure long separations from their families so the rest of don't have too. Then this is how Washington "thanks them". Congress has sent a message to the troops and people thinking about joining: "No incentive to join, no incentive to stay" Eventually it could result in the Draft being resurrected the next time Washington wants too jump into something... .Secondly, where are the pension cuts for Congress? Didn't hear anything about that. People may Support the Troops, but Washington clearly doesn't.
