Poll: Economy still looms large over Christmas

(CNN) - While Americans may still deck the halls and stuff the stockings this Christmas, a new poll finds that the state of the economy is playing a major role in how Americans will celebrate it in 2013.

According to the CNN/ORC International poll, Americans plan to curtail their Christmas gift giving and charitable contributions due to economic concerns, while a sizable minority of Americans, 37%, report that the economy will make the Christmas holiday more stressful.

Donna – Can you tell us where you get your "facts?"

As usual, the lefties refuse to address the subject matter at hand, as well as the facts. They believe they can simply deem themselves correct and all other point invalid and a rant because they know they have nothing to counter with, and that is the only lame response they can muster. Just like Mr. Sniffy likes to deem everything a "nontroversy" or a fake scandal. So when faced with facts you cannot refute, you just dismiss others and claim victory. I believe the correct term for this is arrogance.

Rather than a phony doctored up stat like "unemployment" that doesn't even factor in the long term unemployed, how about we talk about the "labor participation rate" which cannot be messed with. Why don't you do a little research on that real stat and get back to me.

Millions of jobs will be created due to the ACA, according to a source that CNN apparently does not acknowledge.

    truth hurts but reality bites

People are holding back because they have no idea how much MORE (not less as Obama had promised) they will be paying for healthcare insurance. It could be thousands and for many that is a problem. Thanks to Obama and the Democrats, the healthcare insurance companies are the ones that will be vacuuming up a LOT of money, and all that is money not be used to drive up the economy.

Perhaps, more likely they are waiting for the GOP to try (once again) to shut down the government and try to crash the economy next month.
Still no jobs bills, still no economic stimulus bills from the House.

Tom, I am truly amazed that the group that had a stated goal of stopping anything the president wanted, that achieved said goal starting in 2010, can actually blame said president when the economy isn't what they feel it should be.

Nope. It was Donna's chosen topic of "conversation." I merely corrected her "facts" about jobs growth. Jobs growth has pretty much stalled ever since the Tea Party took over the House. Private sector has grown, while the public sector has contracted significantly. Isn't that that the direction that the right wing wants, anyway?

The economy would be doing much better if the Republicans weren't trying to obstruct everything President Obama brings to the table. Republicans are definitely playing the role of the Grinch.

So much material, so little time. Donna, so after the worst economic downturn in 80 years, the reason unemployment is not back down to 5% is Obamacare ("one word" according to you). Really??!! It's not all the automation that is taking away jobs – call almost any company, do you get a live person? How many stores are moving to self-checkout. How much business has moved to the Internet? How many jobs have been moved offshore to get $2/hour labor costs?

How long did it take for unemployment to get down to 5% after the Great Depression? What has the GOPs "Jobs, jobs, jobs" House of Representatives done, besides block almost all legislation, shut down the government, and massacre our credit rating by playing games witht the debt ceiling? But it's all Obama's fault in your fact free world. Sure!

And Tom, why when Obama took office is the unemployment stat that has been used for decades suddenly completely inadequate? Does the labor participation rate have anything to do with early retirements? How much impact does that have? What is the GOP doing to spur job growth? Where is the legislation? You sound like the Tea Party, which after GOP Presidents ran up over 80% of our national debt in only 20 years in office (Reagan, Bush, and Bush), there was suddenly this massive right wing freak out by the Tea Party that started planning a big rally for February 2009 before
President Obama was even swarn in – when we had hardly heard a peep out of these people while the "deficits don't matter" administration was crashing the economy and running up $5.5B in debt. The far right is nothing if not transparent.

Retailers have expected a decline this year. Thanksgiving came late this year, which means 6 fewer shopping days between then and Christmas day compared to a year ago. Why do you think that they were so eager to open up on Thanksgiving Day?

TRANSLATION: My facts were beyond dispute. Donna's "facts" were just flat out wrong.

BTW, I didn't call Donna a liar. If you trouble yourself to look up the definition of confabulate, then you will see that it means that the person had no intent to lie because they honestly believed their erroneous facts to be true.

    In the meantime:

A tiny baby, born weighing less than a pound, is going home for Christmas, weighing 6 pounds. Merry Christmeas to
    the parents.

A dying 8 year old child asked to hear some Christmas carols. Thousands of people showed up and made her
    smile.
Merry Christmas to those carollers who blessed this child with their talents.

Food banks are full thanks to the many who donated throughout the United States. Merry Christmas to those
in need, and who now can feed their families.

And Merry Christmas to all. Whether you celebrate or not, try to enjoy the feeling of caring for each other,
giving outside of your family, having food on your table-- whether it's soup or ham or turkey.

Time to argue will come soon enough............take a breath.
