Poll: This is a 'do-nothing' Congress

Washington (CNN) - The worst Congress ever.

That's the verdict from two-thirds of Americans about the track record of the 113th Congress, according to a new national poll. And a CNN/ORC International poll released Thursday also indicates that nearly three-quarters of the public say that this has been a "do-nothing" Congress.

Two-thirds of those questioned said the current Congress is the worst in their lifetime, with 28% disagreeing.

"That sentiment exists among all demographic and political subgroups. Men, women, rich, poor, young, old - all think this year's Congress has been the worst they can remember," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. "Older Americans - who have lived through more congresses - hold more negative views of the 113th Congress than younger Americans. Republicans, Democrats and independents also agree that this has been the worst session of Congress in their lifetimes."

According to the survey, 73% say that this Congress has so far done nothing to address the country's problems, with one in four disagreeing.

Even though it did pass a budget agreement, fewer than 60 bills have been signed into law during the first year of the two-year long 113th Congress, according to CNN analysis and by other news organizations as well. Assuming lawmakers don't pick up the pace next year, and that's a safe bet as 2014 is an election year, this will become the least productive Congress in at least the last four decades.

The poll also indicates there's little optimism for the future.

"Negative attitudes extend to both sides of the aisle: 52% believe that the policies of the Democratic leaders in Congress would move the country in the wrong direction; 54% say the same about the policies of congressional Republicans," Holland said.

And 54% say the same thing about President Barack Obama's policies

The poll was conducted for CNN by ORC International on December 16-19, with 1,035 adults nationwide questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

When you have members of Congress with an agenda paid for by excessive donations by corporations and pac groups to see that nothing productive is passed if it increases taxes, you not only have an unproductive congress, you have a disfunctional Supreme Court deciding dooming Democracy with their Citizen's United decision ruling such donations are just a form of free speech.. Too bad we have no control over voting out members of the Supreme Court.

The GOP's goal was to make sure Obama would not get any of his agenda through and they have obstructed every thing pretty well, so I say the GOP did what they wanted and did not care about anything else. But voters do not think that it was their Congressman that was obstructing government. We need term limits so they are automatically replaced after one term and require any Bill supported by any 5 Congress persons be voted on by the whole Congress.

You get what you voted for, Obama bots. Inexperienced, unqualified Chicago thug elected only because of skin color and the results are in. US government has become total epic failure.

Next time vote for a candidate based on track record, qualifications instead of wanting to see the forst black president. You can see that mentality has resulted in nothing but failure.

It's all up to voters. Vote out the democrats and republicans that are only in it to see the other side fail. Everyone involved in shutting down the national parks because they failed to do their job and find a middle ground needs to get out. We need to clean house. Clear out the old leadership of both parties and start fresh.

This is what you get America, when you vote Democrats into power. Lest we forget (or try to re-write history), they had a SUPER MAJORITY for the first 2 years ....and still they did NOTHING....except of course spend us into unbelievable debt, ignore the Constitution, and pass one horrendous pile of S#!T piece of legislation (which will likely break our economy this year). Even now, we still have a Democratic "Do Nothing" Senate, and a Democrat / Socialist "Do Nothing...I see nothing.....I hear nothing....I KNOW nothing" President. You made your bed liberals. Now you get to lay in it.

What would you want Congress to do? The Senate led by Harry Reid and the Executive Branch led by the President absolutely refuse to do anything but increase the National Debt. They will not free up small business startup rules to get jobs development going. They are involved in refusing to follow current law on immigration, implementing a massive takeover of the medical system, and directing the EPA to pile on hundreds of new rules to prevent job growth. With the business world working to implement EPA and HHS rules, very little R&D for future growth is going on where the public can see it. Look what a ruckus Jeff Bezos caused just by telling 60 Minutes what Amazon is doing for future growth. There are hundreds of thousands of jobs available now and millions of Americans doing very little to qualify for employment since they are on some form of monthly stipend from the govt. It is going to take a new set of people implement changes, starting at the top.

Looking at the stats the picture becomes very clear. Self serving individual with absolutely no leadership from the White house and a flawed agenda that favors politicians and their buddies and very little for the working man or woman. The "blue collar" working people need to step and collectively throw da bums out.

OMG, this is NOT the way productivity is measured in government!!! I don't care how many bills Congress passes. In fact, the fewer the better! What I do want to know is that the bills are relevant and that the members BOTHERED TO READ THEM BEFORE VOTING ON THEM!!!
