Romney bashes Obama for 'deceptive' healthcare promises

Washington (CNN) - Mitt Romney said Sunday he believes President Barack Obama obscured the truth when he pledged citizens could keep their insurance plans if they liked it under his new health care law.

"He told people, 'You can keep the insurance you have, if you like it,'” Romney told Fox News' Chris Wallace. "That was not honest. That was deceptive."

The former Republican presidential nominee lacerated his 2012 rival for misleading the American public throughout the campaign and laying those unfulfilled promises at "the heart of the president's deception and dishonesty."

Since the rollout of the federal health exchange began on October 1, at least 4.7 million Americans have had their insurance policies canceled because they do not meet the minimum coverage requirements under the new law.

Romney, the architect of Massachusetts' health care plan, which the administration called the basis for the federal law, said the government should not be in the business of dictating what kind of coverage people need.

"I don't like the idea that the government tells people they have to have a gold plated healthcare policy," Romney said.

While Romney's health overhaul does also impose similarly rigorous minimum coverage requirements on the policies available to its consumers, the former governor vetoed the provision before being overridden by a heavily Democratic legislature.

Under intense pressure from Republicans and his own party, President Obama granted insurance companies a one-year exception that would allow the older policies - considered inadequate under the Affordable Care Act - to continue, leaving states to decide whether they would allow these plans to be sold to individuals and small businesses.

Asked by Wallace whether he thinks had Obama not repeatedly made this promise on the campaign trail, the 2012 presidential race would have ended with a Romney inauguration, the Bay State Republican kept the conversation firmly focused on the present.

"History is in the past, and I'm not going to worry about what could have happened," he said.

Obama should have been voted the Liar of the Year for 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013. That is how long he and the Democrats told their massive lies and deceived the American people. We would never have even had the Obamacare nightmare had they told the truth. Imagine all of that effort going towards fixing the economy? But instead it went into creating a massive government debacle based on lies and deceit and all for something the American people never asked for and still do not want of support.

ObamaFraud is what the legacy of Obama will be. 2014 will be the American people chance to express their opinion of being conned and deceived.

Mittens, you can keep your junk policy for one more year, so you should be happy. 285 million Americans are not affected by the ACA. Republicans have no plan, so maybe it would be a good time for Mittens to sit down, take a deep breath, and think about why he was rejected in 2012.

a big bain coporate rader getting the nerves to call someone dishonest. the spin from the right is laughable. Romney needs to tell fox news to hire a democrat to host for atleast a half a hour a day. msnbc has joe scarbarow for 3 hours each weekl days on morning joe, yet fox news refuse to change their policy of only hiring rich repubs host who dont give a dam about the small people, their only objective is to enrich the rich, and convince small folks that it would serve them better if they are poor, and the rich should not share their wealth with them.

Mittens pals have spent over $1 billion to repeal ACA. They have encouraged people to break the law in order to help big insurance. They shut down government at a cost of over $24 billion, and even after all that, the majority of Americans support keeping the ACA versus the non existent republican plan.

    @Donna:

Now you know how I feel about GW Bush and his lies. Over 4,000 dead Americans and thousands wounded,
the worst economy since the Great Depression, unfunded wars and Medicare Part D.............yes, "a massive
government debacle based on lies and deceit" for sure. Not a "legacy" to be proud of, but apparently, you
    missed all that.

So, Mr. Romney, when it is Romneycare, everything works peachy. When it is the ACA which contains the major portion of Romneycare it is "deceptive".

    Silly Republicans!

    --

Right, except they are the ones PAYING for it! 21 new Obamacare taxes, higher healthcare insurance costs because of Obamacare mandates on what must be covered, even if the person is physically incapable of needing or using the coverage. And then there is the massive infringement on individual freedom and religious freedom as well. And then there is the pending debacle of the employer mandate kicking in which Obama unlawfully delayed for political reasons. The CBO projects many millions more will lose their healthcare plans, doctors and hospitals as a result.

Not affected??? Got any more lies you need debunked Timmy?

He LOST, after preparing to run for 4 years to become the President. We HEARD and SAW what he thought about 47% of Americans (lazy takers). I believe he would have been a HORRIBLE President and for that reason I think his opinion is irrelevant, and inconsequential !!

Anyone on those substandard plans is no better than the uninsured. They might like those junk plans, but they are every bit as destructive as not having insurance at all. As soon as something isn't covered, the cost of their care gets integrated into higher premiums for the rest of us. I heard someone complaining that they couldn't keep their $100/month plan – someone with four kids. That's a junk plan and as soon as they reached their coverage limit, guess who is paying for their kids healthcare? You and me. Now those costs are being distributed more evenly and I don't see anything wrong with that. That's how insurance works anyways. If You really have a problem with it, blame it on the insurance companies. This is just the insurance game finally showing its true colors. Hopefully we will soon realize what a negative affect this for-profit industry has had on our healthcare.

Obama is very unethical, deceptive, manipulative, and just plain all around smarmy. He is very good at long winded speeches filled with fluff and fairy dust and I think he has a very sinister heart and for millions of us, we know his true colors. Sadly, he's bamboozled so many people that are less inclined to want to know the truths and have fallenfor all his head games and deceptions that I can't help but feel sorry for them. They are worse off today than ever before and are also being denied any positive messages or uplifting words of wisdom. I can't wait till he's gone. Can't wait till his voice is silenced and the doors are closed to him to do any more damage. All I ask is that those of our government that have strength of mind, integrity, ethics, morals, values and a good soul, BLOCK him at every turn. Keep him in check and do everything you can to reveal his dark heart and seditious desires. Challenge his agenda, bring to light the truths, lead by wisdom, send uplifting messages to our youth, stand by goodness and do your best to prevent this man from harming our Nation any more than he already has.

Why are you liberal haters attacking Romney? He's not the President. He just expressed his opinion. Is expressing ones opinion cause for vicious verbal attacks?
