Poll: Republicans more than Democrats looking forward to midterm elections

(CNN) - A national survey released Tuesday shows just over half of Americans are looking forward to this fall's congressional elections, and indicates Republicans are more excited to head to the polls in November than Democrats.

As campaigning picks up in the new year for the midterm elections, the Pew Research Center survey shows 63% of Republicans are anticipating the congressional elections, compared to 53% of Democrats. Fifty-one percent of all respondents said they are "especially looking forward to" the elections, with 49% saying they are not.

Pew notes a similar disparity between the partisan levels of excitement today and four years ago during the 2010 midterm elections, when a Republican wave gave the GOP back control of the House. The overall level of anticipation for the elections also remains the same, 51% today to 50% in a Pew survey in January 2010.

Americans' excitement for the 2014 elections trails anticipation for next month's Winter Olympics, at 58%, and the Super Bowl, at 55%, but beats enthusiasm for the upcoming Academy Awards and this summer's World Cup, at 24% and 22% respectively.

The poll was conducted by telephone from January 2-5 among 1,005 adults and has a sampling error of plus or minus 3.7% points.

It is a shame we had to borrow all that money to pay for trickle down economics, tax cuts for those who needed it

It just doesn't get much more hateful than this comment. You insult the integrity of every human being that is
down on their luck. Every segement of the human population, including the workplace, have some who would
"work the system". This includes Congress. But, there are many more who truly want the best they can
do for their families or themselves if they have no family.
You and your ilk who look down their noses at people who are struggling are worse than any person who
needs "welfare" to feed their kids, pay their bills, etc.
There are too many people in need, and maybe you are perfectly situated, but you are also mean
    spirited.

When I read the democrat supporters comments, I have to laugh....LOL There you are having a hard life under Obama and you still want them to win the midterms. The only thing I can say is that you people want to get more entitlements and you know when the democrats are in, you will get your fair share and more. Lazy bums!!!!!!....do not want to work...just want handouts. that is why you deserve to suffer some more. Hope this time it is not only your job but also your home and car that you will be losing. REAL LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe you will wake up when you reach rock bottom....oh but wait....the government checks will be coming so you do not have to work at all. Even the welfare, disability and food stamps will be coming to your doorstep. No ambition in your life....you will always remain poor but you people seem to like that.

The Democrats refuse to let the Republican party adapt, even as the Republicans grow far more tolerant overall, they refuse to believe they are actually good people. Instead, they pander to quelching any notion that the Republicans have progressed as a party. The Democrats are quickly becoming the Nazis of North America... publicly shaming those who oppose them, and, confident in their shameful conduct.
    ********************************
" ..refuse to let the Republicans adapt"? The GOP has made very conscious, calculated decisions to screw themselves. There has been no strategy to keep them from adapting. As far as fascism is concerned, the GOP is well on its way to becoming a fascist party, utterly intolerant of dissent within its ranks ( RINOS, anybody?) and filled with contempt for those who oppose them outside of their ranks.

You democrats are what is bringing America to its knees. You do not want to work....you just want to keep getting the handouts that government gives you every month. You people make me sick......always with your hands out and never giving anything back. You only know how to take, take, take and do not even feel guilty about it. It is so annoying that my hard earned money is supporting people like you who have no ambition in life.

@just asking " time for a change away from the failed european socialist policies of the democrat party."
How come Forbes puts Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, in the top 10 happiest countries in the World? I know this is conservative blasphemy but MAYBE being nice and generous to the general welfare of the People makes them Happy! AAAAh – can't see – blinding flash of the obvious. I want to "fail" like that!

Democrats have a real 2014 problem. They have been proven liars. A lot of people now do not trust them. Their record over the last 7 years is one of failure. So no trust and proven failures. And to top it all off, the Americna people have seen and heard their play book too many times and are sick of hearing them yet again.

So the Democrats will play their usual divide and conquer, class warfare games which is why you are hearing all about income inequality, unemployment extensions, etc. Will it work once again and return these proven Democrat liars and failures to office? I doubt it but you never know. They feel for all the lies in 2012.

you mean back when the democrats controlled the house and senate??? (starting in 2007)

and then had total control from 2009-2010???

and still control 2/3 of the government????

it's been a 7 year democrat train wreck! even before the obamacare train wreck left the station.

And the GOP controlled the WH for 8 years prior to that, and the Congress for 12 years from 1995 to 2007. They had ample time to deal with issues, but instead chose to ignore things. Nice try on rewriting history, but I guess you live ina world where problems that took decades to emerge due to bad conservative budgets and rightie red ink should be fixed ina week or so, but if they don't its Obama, Pelosi and Reid's fault only. Do you assume any responsibility for the conditions your boys helped to create, or do you think it was all done in 2 years of total Democratic rule? Are you really that stupid?

the fox rich all right winged group is winning. maybe they'll have a little sense of fareness and hire a dem host and give him or her a half an hour block. its amazing how far down the toding pole the american people falling. they are willing to sacrifice our country's best interest to serve their corporate masters. dont interfere with the greed of our corporations they yell if they want to suck up all our jobs and bring them to china, it is their prerogative. the problem is when their jobs and factories start packing up to go overseas, they will immediately blame Obama and the dem, their sense of responsibility is, when things are good grab the credit, when what they push is bad, blame the president. boy isnt that sweet.

My buddies in the main street media will once again come to our defense and aid. All of our failures and lies will not matter. The American people will be Obamboozled yet again.

i am tired of all of these paid liberal bloggers on CNN sites–you may as well give up–you have been proven wrong too many times–everyone knows that Obama policies have not worked–he and the dems have been running the country into the ground–you can't blame republicans–they have been shut out of all negotiations by executive mandate on many issues–Dems own this sad state of affairs–wake up and smell the bitter coffee.....

Sheila – thank you for cutting to the core values (fears) of the (im)moral Radical Right. You should get out and explain this to every undecided voter. Progressives everywhere will thank you.

The NYS Senate has been run by the GOP for most of the last 60 years. Anything that gets thru the legistlature has to get past the GOP Senate, so I would suggest you actually know a little about your subject before that. By the way, NY was consistently beating GOP states in job creation at the height of the recession. Unlike the red states, we pay our way rather than take from other states.

rewriting history??? what i wrote is absolutely accurate. i know the truth is very tough for you to swallow, because the last 7 years of democrat party failure is a bitter pill to swallow. the years when republicnas controlled the house senate and whitehouse were years of economic growth and low unemployment, even after taking the hit of 9/11. but once the democrats (reid and pelosi) got control of congress, it all went to hell in a hand basket. those are the facts.

and everything that obama and the democrats have been doing since then has only made things worse. the facts show that as well. time to admit reality and the reality is that the democrats wrecked the economy and continue to keep it a wreck with their insane policies, including obamacare.

Well if it was a lie then it was one that was very often repeated by many, many Demorcrts as well, including Bill and Hillary Clinton. But of course, you know it wasn't a lie, because many other countries also came to the same conclusion.

But what Obama told were very real lies. They were lies about his signature achievement that would never have becone law if he had not told those lies, over, and over, and over, ended with a PERIOD. The American people are not as stupid as you think they are. They all know that they were lied to, PERIOD.
