Fort Lee mayor takes more measured tone after meeting with Christie

(CNN) – What a difference a day makes.

On Wednesday, Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich seemed outraged after learning that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's appointees had apparently targeted his town as part of a political vendetta, orchestrating traffic jams because he hadn't endorsed the governor.

"I'm actually rooting that the highest elected official in the state of New Jersey isn't involved in this, but I will tell you, I'm beginning to question my judgment," he said, saying that the traffic snarls caused by lane closures on the George Washington Bridge "put my town in harm's way."

"Sokolich said. "The governor respectfully insisted, and we certainly would welcome any governor, and especially our governor .... with open arms, as we did."

Well, yes, it is good that he did welcome Christie's visit. Many in Ft. Lee voted for the Governor and needed his comforting show of bipartisanship. Or something.

That is the ONE thing that we have no doubt about: the fact that he [respectfully] INSISTED on coming down there to see you in person even though it would've made more sense for him to bow to YOUR wishes seeing how YOU (meaning Ft Lee) was the injured party,so to speak.
But no. That nearly two-hour press conference needed to conclude, in his plan, with a picture of the two of you.
    More to come. I'm sure.

Best thing the Dems can do here is set a tone and standard of behavior in reaction to this that provides a stark contrast to the hysterical, tinfoil hatted, conspiracy-laden hyperventilation witch-hunts of the GOP/Teatrolls and their continuous clawing for some way to undo election results they don't like. The investigation will show what it shows. Let the people involved have as much rope as they can handle. The hanging tree will still be there when it's time.

Sniffit – You are probably right. It is just that the wingnuts who post here are denying the e mails and blaming liberal media, whatever that is.

I agree. I think Mr. Mayor is setting the perfect example, although he's shown some cracking around the edges because he's frustrated more than ever.

They're not denying the emails as much as they're unaware and uninformed as to their contents. As you already know, Fox has not been giving this story much air time, much less fully disclosing the contents of the emails.

In fact, while most people out there are sort of shaking their heads and wondering about all the inconsistencies in what Christie said yesterday, the odd choice to revert back to the claims about some imaginary "traffic study" etc., Faux is extremely busy trying to claim that Christie is doing a much better job of it all than Obama and use it as a launch pad for rejuvenating Obama's scandals. It's their top story on their website and it's about as thick, deep and slimy a collection of desperate rationalizations I've ever seen from them.

The mayor is the executive leader of Fort Lee. After Christie has gone, he should launch his own investigations and report out to the press. This will keep the story alive and allow him to force Christie to address the substance of the torts that Fort Lee residents have had to face.

Start with an assessment of the impact on EMS response times caused by the bridge vendetta. Extrapolate that into delays in emergency healthcare. Mention the death of the old woman but DON"T ACCUSE Team-Christie of murder. Show that Team Christie contributed adversely to outcomes that work to the benefit of the citizentry. That will be a story Christie will want to make go away and therefore will be a path to extract concessions from him.

    Of course you're right Sniffit.
And of course, no matter what attitude Dems and other non-Righties take we will be accused of acting just like them anyway. So I'm giving due notice that I may just indulge my "urge to merge" every so often here. Lol!
