Obama to pay visit to Pope

(CNN) – President Barack Obama plans to soon meet with Pope Francis for the first time.

Secretary of State John Kerry said the President was “looking forward” to visiting the popular new leader of the Roman Catholic Church at the Vatican.

Kerry did not say when the trip would take place.

Governor to appoint Florida’s first Hispanic lieutenant governor

(CNN) - Florida Gov. Rick Scott tapped Carlos Lopez-Cantera, the Miami-Dade county property appraiser, to fill the state’s vacant lieutenant governor’s office on Tuesday. By accepting the position, the Republican becomes the first Hispanic lieutenant governor in Florida history.

“I am honored to have been chosen by Governor Scott to serve Floridians as their Lieutenant Governor,” Lopez-Cantera said. “I look forward to leveraging my experience with small businesses and government tax reform to help further Governor Scott’s mission of economic growth and job creation.”

Mitt Romney dances Gangnam style

(CNN) – Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney stepped out of character this weekend, hopping on stage at a concert in Arizona and attempting the Gangnam style dance move.

Performer Alex Boye, British-born and a Mormon, coaxed the former Massachusetts governor into the spotlight for an impromptu dance lesson at a regional conference for young adults in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Arizona over the weekend.

Obama looks to bypass Congress: 'I've got a pen'

Washington (CNN) –  It's the new White House catch-phrase for 2014: "Year of Action."

Those words have been on President Barack Obama's mind over the last few weeks, earning a mention at December's year-end news conference and in his weekly address to the nation last Saturday. Administration officials are hinting it will be one of the major theme's of the President's upcoming State of the Union speech.

(CNN) – After trying to defuse the George Washington Bridge scandal with a leave-no-question-behind news conference last week in which he fired two top aides and apologized repeatedly for his being "blindsided" by what aides and appointees were doing, questions won't seem to go away for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

And the story took on new life on Monday with reports that the possible 2016 presidential candidate is being investigated on another front by a federal watchdog into how it spent recovery funds on tourism ads featuring Christie and his family.

Primary day in crucial House contest

(CNN) - Republican voters in a swing district in a purple state head to the polls Tuesday, to choose their party's nominee for a special election to fill a vacant House seat their party's held for decades.

Tuesday's GOP primary in Florida's 13th congressional district will set the stage for a March special election that some political pundits are billing as barometer for November's midterm elections.
