Barbara Bush hopes Jeb won't run for president

(CNN) - If former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush makes a bid for the White House, he may not have his mother's blessing.

Former First Lady Barbara Bush said in an interview with C-SPAN on Thursday that the United States needs to expand the number of families holding the nation's highest political office beyond her own, as well as the Clintons and Kennedys.

"I think this is a great American country, great country, and if we can't find more than two or three families to run for high office, that's silly, because there are great governors and great eligible people to run," she said.

Though her son is certainly qualified to run for president, the former first lady said, "I hope he won't."

"Because I think he'll get all my enemies (and) all his brother's,” she continued. “And there are other families. I refuse to accept that this great country isn't raising other wonderful people."

And her son delivered quite the comeback later Thursday.

This isn't the first time the former first lady has indicated it would be best if her son did not seek the presidency. Her most recent comments on her son's presidential prospects underscore sentiments she made public last year.

"We've had enough Bushes," she told NBC's "Today" in April.

Though the former two-term Florida governor is considering running for president in 2016, he's said he still hasn't made up his mind.

CNN's Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.

To bad she didn't voice that same opinion before her other son decided it would be "cool" to be president.

It will be very tough to follow Obama. The next president will inherit a demoralized, broke country that has been bullied by democrat liberal "progressives," bows to to two bit dictators, and been run in a lawless manner for 8 years.

I don't think the country will vote for him, frankly. Obama destroyed the Bush name........unfairly, for political purposes.

Completely agree with her, I don't like the idea of 1 or a few families constantly running the country, you might as well increase the term limits if the same families keeps getting elected to president. They will probably have the exact same if not very similar policies.

I agree... the country won't vote for him. Obama didn't need to 'destroy' the bush name, it was already destroyed by the failed Presidency of dubya. If the bush name was so good before Obama... then why didn't McCain embrace bush and have him at the RNC and at every campaign stop?
I know that is hard for you to wrap your little mind around... you having all those problems with understanding facts and whatnot.

Stuffitu...your description of a demoralized country run by a lawless putz nicely describes what Obama inhereted from Bush ....right down to part about the bowing to 2-bit dictators, as when W backed down with his tail between his legs from BOTH China and North Korea in two separate incidents only months apart....and that was before a band stone-age thugs was able to use human guided planes to bomb the country he was supposedly in charge of. And then we needed to wait for Obama to get in office, at which point we finally had a president with the gonads to actually order the execution of the leader of the stone-age thugs.

Obama is related to the Bush family. Jeb would be a great choice. No as to what some assert to new ideas? Please those running on left have been in government off and on for how long? All bought and paid for!

The rest of us feel the same way as the Mother. If another Bush gets in office the entire country can be written off as a total loss.

She is a smart woman because her son would be ripped apart by those who found his brother questionable excuse for a president.

    Obama destroyed the Bush name...

That has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read on these blogs, and that's really saying something. I mean seriously, you really don't think people starting looking unfavorably towards president bush, before president/candidate obama came onto the scene? What kind of world do you live in?

@ OL' Yeller....Why did McCain not have Bush around during the campaign? Probably for the same reason you won't see Obama around when Hillary runs.. perhaps that will help you wrap your brain around the facts.

We have to go all the way back to Bill Clinton to find a President who actually knew how to run a government. Monica was a small price to pay.
