Subpoenas of current and former Christie aides in bridge probe cast wide net

Updated 5:58 p.m. ET, 1/17/2014

(CNN) – A state legislative committee in New Jersey is casting a wide net – from daily planners to blackberry messages - in its quest for documents and other materials relating to a political scandal that has rocked Gov. Chris Christie’s administration.

Some 17 people, including current and former close aides to Christie, and three groups were formally subpoenaed on Thursday by the Select Committee on Investigation.

The governor’s office at large was also included although Christie was not subpoenaed. His 2013 gubernatorial campaign organization also received a subpoena.

Read the subpoenas

The panel, chaired by Assemblyman Jim Wisniewski, seeks “all communications of any kind” and related documents and videos, including any correspondence, notes, e-mail, texts, voice mails from last September 1 through Friday relating to traffic gridlock around the George Washington Bridge between last September 9-13, according to a copies of subpoenas obtained by CNN.

Some must turn over their cell phones, tablets and other electronic devices.

Asked why the subpoenas were so broad, a spokesman for the Assembly’s majority Democrats responded: “Just part of the thorough investigation.”

Investigators are probing suggestions that top Christie appointees deliberately orchestrated the tie ups in Fort Lee to allegedly punish politically that town’s mayor for not endorsing the governor for re-election last November.

Material outlined in the subpoenas must be turned over by February 3.

The state Senate is also investigating as is the U.S. Attorney’s office.

CNN's Shimon Prokupecz contributed to this report.

""I am privileged to now be the wife of the woman I have loved for more than 2 decades.""

2 decades. Huh. And most conservative religio-fascists can't last more than 2 minutes. Just ask their wives. No wonder they're all so uptight....

Wide net and a bigger boat!
Priceless. Children and adults should take a page from this NJ gov's book . . . in the end bullying and intimidation don't pay.

I read somewhere that Wildstein has "reiterated" his request for immunity....then he will talk.

So, if they give him immunity and all he says is "I'm guilty" and nothing more. Then what?

This isn't catch and release fishing. We're going to catch it, gut it and thrown it in the frying pan.

Poor dumb Democrats remind me of Capt. Ahab chasing Moby Dick. It didn't end well for Capt. Ahab and won't end well for the witch hunting Democrats. They will have created Chris Christie, the LEGEND.

You just obliviously compared Christie to a giant white whale. I ask again: do you guys even listen to yourselves speak?

Poor dumb baggers and their made up conspiracies against the president. All will not end well for the brain dead followers of Darrell Issa. They will be responsible for the election of Hillary in 2016.

@just saying: You want to talk "accessory to murder"? Well, then, let's talk Congress (specifically the Republican House) denying extra security when requested BY THE SECRETARY OF STATE. Of course, I realize people like you prefer to forget 'inconvenient' truths.

"casting a wide net .... how appropriate for a fishing expedition."

Yeah.... nothing to see here folks. Because this is a republicant, there should be no investigation, we should take christie on his word. Only Dems deserve investigating and we should spare no cost to get to the bottom of whatever allegations we can pull out of our... I digress... So what if he used his power to extract vengeance on a political opponent for some petty reason. The only one's harmed were thousands of Americans. A bunch of New Jersey school kids trying to get to school on their first day (and second, and third, and fourth, and more had they had it their way). Ambulances, cops and firetrucks.... big deal. So what if a lady died, she was old. You got nothing on christie, the e-mails only went to his office door, not to him. He fired some people and took responsibility as soon as he was made aware of it (if you don't count the four months of stonewalling, intimidation, and efforts BY CHRISTIE to bury this story). He only got moving when the e-mails surfaced and his political appointee who he went to school with and gave a high level, high paying, undefined job at the port authrority (though he had no interactions whatsoever with... except for on the day of the traffic jam that one photograph where they are guffawing about something, and that ther photo with him, but no other times- unless you find another photo...) made it known though his attorney he would be very interested in talking should he be granted full bat-immunity.
He just didn't know. No one in his office knew (except for the scape goa...errr.. low level aides responsible). christie knew they needed firing because he did no investigation into it (because he he is an ex prosecutor and didn't want to step on any investigation, but now he is doing an 'internal inquiry' and doing just that, because somehow that doesn't matter now!?!).
Yeah, no need to investigate anything... fish, what fish?!?!?

    I don't smell anything.

Sniffit, living in Houston I have watched as we elected and re-elected the first openly gay major of a major city, and in the process I have seen first-hand the realities of the gay agenda:

It's mostly about police protection, improving the city's finances, schools, and encouraging development of several downtown enhancements.

    Who knew?

A smoking gun may still be out there. One of the accused may make a deal with the prosecutor for a more lenient sentence for testimony against Gov Christie.

Wait...you mean there's been no police-enforced mandatory gay secks in the streets or school curricula changes to teach how to lisp properly in English class? Haha. Seriously...the cartoonish nightmare in which the conservative mind marinates is a horrifying thing.

Folks, for anyone interested... these above posts are what we refer to, where I came from, as 'Whistling past the graveyard'.
They really, really, want this to go away and think that somehow by pretending it is something different (like the made up crap they have been slinging daily at Hillary and Obama) that somehow it will all go away and they won't have to run cruz or rand or walker (please, oh please... run walker).
Is it wrong I am smiling?
