The smart politics of Snapchat

Washington (CNN) - When Rand Paul, a likely Republican presidential candidate, signed up for the photo-sharing app Shapchat on Wednesday, it set off a predictable round of mockery about the Kentucky senator.

Haha! chanted the Greek chorus of Internet snark. Look at this 51-year-old man signing up for the buzzy social media platform in a lame effort to win over The Youngs!

The only reason Obama is in the White House is because of the young, the idiots, and the young idiots. The GOP is now going to go after the young voters. The Dems can keep the idiots.

All the politicians think they can influence the youth.........and hey probably can.......because Obama did that. Obama lied to the youth of America............and they swallowed it.........hook, line, and sinker.

The vast majority of youth supports same-sex marriage and see it as one of the most important issues. Rand Paul opposes same-sex marriage. Good luck with that.

Once the young generation feel the pinch from the ACA they either won`t vote or vote for someone who is not a dem. The ACA made a bad healthcare system worse. The dems and liberals are cowards who are to stubborn to admit their idea doesn`t work.

Actually, the main reason Obama is in the White House is because Republicans have chosen such inferior candidates. They have also acted so foolishly and recklessly, that the majority of Americans do not trust them with the White House. From John McCain picking a provincial politician like Palin to be his VP, to Mitt Romney dismissing 47% of the population and releasing a lying Jeep ad two weeks before the election, which the campaign defended to its' own demise.

Given the sorry state of things in this country and that more than 2 out of 3 people feel the country is headed in the wrong direction, same-sex marriage should not even come close to, as you put it, "one of the most important issues". ON EITHER SIDE OF THE AISLE.

Most young people do not hate gays.blacks and latinos. They respect a woman's right to choose. They want a fair tuition loan and a chance for a career. They watch their parents get screwed by by the right, so they vote for the left. Is it that hard for a genious like Rove to figure out?

Their idea? You're misinformed. The right wing not only invented the idea, they had loved it right up until the moment that Pres. Obama embraced mandated health insurance, expecting bipartisan support. Little did he expect, much less suspect, the rancor and partisan opposition that arose from it. About the only part of the bill that originated with the Democrats were the "Patient Protections" provisions.

Name one Paul policy that is attractive to American young people. Sure he's using a smart venue, too bad he has nothing to sell there.

Decriminalizing marijuana is the most popular policy that I'm aware of, or was that his Dad.

True, but young people are noy going to vote for what the Right stands for and does: they will not vote for anti-civil rights candidates; they will not vote for candidates trying to take away their right to vote; they will not support a party trying to ram someone else's "religious beliefs" down their throats (or enshrine the "right" of discrimination against minorities, gays and jews as the Arizona GOP is). The Right are dinosaurs to the youth of today- Pauls' got nothin' for them.

Through what crystal ball are you looking at that tells you Pres. Obama had the votes to do that? As I recall, a vote was taken to renew it before it expired. They voted in some changes, but they still included a sunset date in the extension. I'm not sure when.

Agreed. Statistics show Republicans lost women, minorities and the youth by wide margins because of their antiquarian platform positions- and stuffy lying plutocrats.
