Palin slams Obama in MLK post

(CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin reposted a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous "I Have A Dream" speech on Monday–and took a swipe against President Barack Obama at the same time.

"Mr. President, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. and all who commit to ending any racial divide, no more playing the race card," she said in a Facebook post Monday, a holiday that marks the civil rights icon's birthday.

While the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee didn't give a specific example of Obama playing the "race card," her comment comes after the President referenced his race in a New Yorker article published over the weekend.

"There's no doubt that there's some folks who just really dislike me because they don't like the idea of a black President," Obama said.

The quote came in a section of the story about his declining poll numbers among white voters over the last year. He also lost the voting demographic by a wide margin in his 2012 re-election bid, the article notes.

According to CNN national exit polls, Obama won only 39% of the white vote.

"Now, the flip side of it is there are some black folks and maybe some white folks who really like me and give me the benefit of the doubt precisely because I'm a black President," Obama added.

– CNN's Sara Fischer contributed to this report.

  1. O'drama ya Mama

Lets look past all the the Tea Party rallies holding up signs and chanting go "back to Kenya" or the signs with a noose on it and lets blame the President for playing the race card.

I don't like Obam and it is not because he is black. It is because he just won't shut the heck up and actually do the job he was elected to do. For some reason he thinks his job is to talk 24 hours a day 7 days a week in front of camera. I turn the TV off now every time I see him. I can guarantee I have already heard it at least 3-4 times already.

Palin is making money off of the dense and bigoted. No surprises with her at all. Just sad that somebody can make a living that way.

    Obama the Divider

Obama prefers the words of Rev. Wright to the words of Rev. Martin Luther King. Racial hatred towards whites and this country preached and Obama sat and listened to it for 20 years. Yes, it is truth and it hurts but the truth will set you free.
    ---------------------
Most of the time it seems as if the entire right wing prefers the words of Limbaugh more than anything else.

For decades, the Republican Party has been rather predictable in picking their nominee for POTUS. There used to be some unwritten rule that it had to be "your turn" in order to be on the ticket. Once you lost, you're out for life. Losing could include the Republican primaries, too, but not always. In other words, you could make a pretty good educated guess as to "who's turn" it was going to be.

Last time around, it seemed like it was Mitt Romney's turn from the start. We almost seemed to know that two years out. So I ask, who's turn is it going to be this time? The first name that comes to my mind is Christie. But, if not Christie, then who?

This may resonate with their base, but any reasonable person wouldn't call referencing their race in that situation playing the race card, given that regardless of how bad of a president you believe Obama to be, he does owe a lot of being the president to the work of MLK. This is not "Playing the race card." Palin overstepped her bounds.

  13. Wake up People!

I am truly sick of Palin and her ilk pretending they care or even know what MLK stood for. They may know but they have never wanted what he wanted. I can guarantee if Dr. King were still alive he would still be disappointed. In this country, there is still little equality. People are always talking about women getting equal pay as men, well what about blacks getting equal pay and on the job training like whites. No blacks get the low paying janitorial jobs.

President Obama is serving his second term as President. Palin did not finish 1 term as governor in a state with less population than most of our cities, need I say more.

Palin probably never read the whole quote. Obama also stated that he is sure that some blacks and whites voted for him because he is black. it was a perfectly balanced quote that is twisted by bigots. Does anyone really not know at least one person who does not respect our president because he is black? C'mon!

Ms. Palin is pathetic. As long as the GOP use her as a mouthpiece, they are doomed with voters with a higher than room temperature IQ.

I'll play though Ms. Palin- please answer this:

If Republicans are so wedded to not "playing the race card", please explain why in Arizona, State Sen. Mr. Yarborough has introduced as one of the first bills this session one (close to MLK Day) that would actually enshrine the right for employers to discriminate against employees who do not hold the same religious beliefs as them? The bill goes further to allow storekeepers, motel and hotel operators, cafe operators, restaurant operators to discriminate against blacks, gays, Hispanics- pretty much anyone they can- using the religion card.

You and are [party are deeply disturbed.
