Judge denies McDonnell one-week delay in arraignment

4:55 p.m. ET, 1/22/2014

(CNN) - A judge has denied Tuesday a request by former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell to delay his and his wife's arraignment in federal court by one week.

The arraignment is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. in Richmond.

Court papers say lawyers for McDonnell had asked for the delay because one member of the defense team "is currently out of the country at a location with no airport, from which it would be extremely difficult and expensive for him to return prior to his scheduled return time of midnight on Friday, January 24."

Judge James Spencer made the decision.

Yeah, I'm sure everyone accused of a crime would like an extra few days before they do the perp walk. If that privilege isn't extended to other accused criminals it shouldn't be extended to him.

He can joyfully join the other imprisoned former governors, and wait for Krispy to make it a foursome.

I hope they save a place for Rick Scott. They will have enough for an all governor basketball team in prison.

If all McDonnell is going to state is that he pleads innocent and requests ROR, that doesn't require a lawyer. If there are going to be motions, then I can understand the request for delays.

And BTW, silly excuse for a delay. They're just gong to read the charges, confirm he understands them and ask for his and his wife's plea. It's routine and uncomplicated and he's obviously just going to plead not guilty.

    Really?! Really dude?
How did he get there in the first place? May I suggest that he leave the same way he came in.
Additionally, why would you place yourself in the middle of nowhere when you know you have a client that needs to be fingerprinted and booked in a couple of days?
Who ARE these people, and why do they think they can get away with this crap?!
    Good call judge.

LOL. A bit overly sensitive, eh moderator? I mean, was it because you didn't understand what schadenfruede is or because you have standing orders that any word with "gasm" added and attached to the end of it is "icky"?

How many lawyers does it take to defend this guy? He must be in really hot water! A former attorney general who apparently thought the law didn't apply to him.
