Does Hannity want to run for office?

(CNN) - Sean Hannity has become the latest cable news host to drop hints about a potential run for office.

On Wednesday the Fox News host, a favorite of conservatives, said he sometimes thinks about a political run. He didn't specify what office he'd like to take a shot at, though.

Hannity's comments - which thrilled some of his fans - came during a segment on his prime time Fox News show, "Hannity," called #asksean. One of the viewer questions his guest Megan McDowell read was, "Will you run for office, or do you think that you can accomplish more where you are now?"

Hannity answered with a smile, "Would you vote for me?"

When McDowell repeated the question, Hannity said, "The answer is yes, I think about it."

Hannity indicated that he could run someday in Texas or Florida. He has talked recently about "leaving New York," partly in order to protest a remark made last week by the Democratic governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, about "extreme conservatives" in the state.

Cuomo was speaking about a "schism" in the Republican Party between moderates and extremists. Apparently referring to Republican candidates, he said the extremists "have no place in the state of New York because that's not who New Yorkers are." He added that "moderate Republicans have a place in this state."

The remarks – sometimes repurposed out of context – have been a source of outrage among some conservative commentators. Hannity said he interpreted Cuomo's remarks to mean that "Andrew Cuomo doesn't want us here." And on Wednesday, Hannity said that he would move "as soon as I can." But that might be a while, he added, since his television and radio shows are produced in the state and his children are enrolled in school there.

"But I will definitely leave New York," he said. "So it would be in either Texas or Florida."

Hannity is planning on attending next week's State of the Union address as a guest of Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas. Gohmert is a frequent guest on Hannity's shows.

In 2012 Hannity signed a new contract with Fox News that is believed to retain him through the 2016 presidential election cycle.

A number of Fox commentators – Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum – have attempted runs for office before. John Kasich, a weekend host for many years, is now the Republican governor of Ohio. (Gingrich now works for CNN as a co-host for "Crossfire.)

Last year, Fox News host Geraldo Rivera flirted with a run for U.S. Senate in New Jersey. Ultimately, the Republican decided against the bid, citing the heavily Democratic state and potentially tough run against popular Newark Mayor Cory Booker.

Chris Matthews of MSNBC actively considered a run for Senate in Pennsylvania in 2009, but opted against it.

Some in Massachusetts have suggested that MSNBC's Rachel Maddow run for Senate in that state, but she has never shown any interest in doing so.

Please let him run. He'll get crushed. He will find out how unpopular his views really are.

It is hard to imagine how a viewpoint like Hannity's, which is shared by a majority of Americans, can be so easily dismissed by so many posters. The left preaches tolerance – but only if you believe what they believe – explain that!

Hannity is a carpet-bagging loser candidate in any other state? Is that what Hillary Clinton was when she briefly chose NY?

I can hardly wait to see this blow-dried creep fall on his face in Texas or Florida in a vain effort to promote his overblown self-importance and chronic narcissism.

They can run all they want, just don't be stunned at the outcome, since the real world is different from the Fox News bubble world...

He could run in more conservative parts of Texas and the midwest, but not Florida or any state with any semblance of a moderate populous. That being said, being he thinks his extreme conservative ideals are what the country wants, why not run in a more moderate state like Michigan or PA? The rest of us would get a good laugh when he got annihilated by his competition in the primaries.

He is not going to run for any office. Mr. Hannity is a lot of things, but he is not STUPID!! It is always easier criticize something or someone than it is to improve or fix it. He KNOWS he has a good thing going, why leave it for the something that requires REAL RESULTS!!!

This is just getting worse by the minute. Guest of Louie Gohmert at State of the Union speech, definitely leaving
New York and "it would be in either Texas or Florida"????????

Please, please let it be Florida. We have enough Louie Gohmerts in Texas to last a lifetime.

As a New Yorker – good riddance.

Cuomo's words were spot on. We have no problem with moderate republicans. But most "republicans" around here are socially liberal, and fiscally conservative. Extreme conservatism is unwelcome.

Good grief. Since he always claims that he's not a republican, will he run under the "conservative" party ticket? What a joke.
