Huckabee invokes 'libido' in birth control debate

Washington (CNN) - Mike Huckabee urged Republicans to aggressively fight back against Democratic attempts to make female "libido" a campaign issue - language that may inflame the ongoing war of words between Republicans and Democrats over women's health issues.

Addressing a Republican National Committee luncheon in Washington, Huckabee said Thursday Democrats have invented a phony "war on women" in an effort to lure female voters into their fold.

"It is time Republicans no longer accept listening to the Democrats talk about a war on women because the fact is the Republicans don't have a war on women," Huckabee said. "They have a war for women – for them to be empowered to be something other than victims of their gender."

Huckabee said women he knows are "outraged" that Democrats think they are "nothing more than helpless and hopeless creatures whose only goal in life is to have the government provide for them birth control medication. Women I know are smart, educated, intelligent, capable of doing anything anybody else can do."

"Our party stands for the recognition of the equality of women and the capacity of women," he continued. "That is not a war on them it is a war for them. And if the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it."

"Let us take that discussion all across America because women are far more than the Democrats have played them to be and women across America need to stand up and say enough of that nonsense and I think it is time we lead that discussion," he continued.

Huckabee's comments come as the RNC debates a new resolution calling on GOP candidates to frame the abortion debate on their terms in 2014.

I doubt there is enough popcorn in the world to cover this man and his need for attention. I'm going to give it my best effort though.

He's serious. Huckabee's already emitting that rootin' tootin', highfalutin mumbo jumbo that the right wing just eats up.

Without a doubt, this is the Number One offensive comment of any Republican ever made regarding women.
The others were seen immediately as stupid............this is repulsive.

That's all I can say..........I am to angry and appalled at this so-called "preacher".

Huckabee is right about this one. The war on women is nothing but propaganda, the dems prove this with their treatment of women like Nikki Haley. The left pretends to care about women rights but in the end it just a way to get their vote.

    Let's reframe the debate........

Huckabee and his minions want Christian religion to dictate laws in this country that affect women. Does that pretty much sum things up?

Hello, American women!! As a man I think Mr. Huckabee is losing his mind. I have seen nothing in the Republican party that supports a women's right to be an "EQUAL" part of the American society. The Republican's in the House would not support the legislation that enforced equal pay for women when they do the same job as a man. Does Mr. Huckabee understand 95% of women use birth control of some sort. Does he understand that many women who use birth control pills are not using them just to prevent pregnancy. Does Mr. Huckabee understand it is an abomination to treat a pregnant women as "less important" than the fetus she is carrying. There has not been a WAR on WOMEN by the Republican Party, they just don't respect a women's intelligence or rights on certain issues. As a man I am amazed at just how ignorant older men can be about women's issues and perspective. I just wonder how many of these "outraged" women he speaks of are younger than 50. I am willing to bet, less than 10%.

OK – I am going to guess there are 5 maybe 6 women in Texas somewhere that might fall for this.
When Huckabee visits the zoo he must jump in the lions den and poke all the female lions with a stick just to see what will happen.
For shear morbid curiosity, I would like to see Huckabee and Hannity run on the same ticket.

Yes, and when women see the language the GOP plans to frame regarding abortion rights, they will be reminded that Uncle Mike and Flying Morality Squad in the GOP have no intention of allowing them to reach their full potential: they regard them as nothing more than a uterus with hands unless they are a FOX news host.

    So let me understand.

He says "Democrats have invented a phony "war on women" in an effort to lure female voters into their fold." (Quote from Article not form his speech)

    Then says...

    Wow.

What a sexist and utterly stupid thing for Mr. Huckabee to say. As if the GOP doesn't already have enough problems with womens' votes. If anything, by denying women birth control, redefining rape (remember the whole "real rape" thing with Akin?), taking away abortion, the GOP is clearly aiming to subject women to standards they certainly won't ever be called on- after all old white men don't get pregnant. The GOP is stuck in 1890- they need help- bad.

    The Gospel according to Nutjob.

The level of disrespect it shows towards women to clearly believe that they are all so stupid, airheaded and gullible as to fall for this nonsense attempt to twist the issue...truly remarkable. Besides, Huck hasn't seen an active female libido or hoohoo for decades.

"Without a doubt, this is the Number One offensive comment of any Republican ever made regarding women."

Did you miss their opposition to laws regarding spousal rape on the grounds that the woman is supposed to submit to her husband?

Obviously they women he knows aren't very smart at all if they believe "that Democrats think they are "nothing more than helpless and hopeless creatures whose only goal in life is to have the government provide for them birth control medication." In fact, I'd say they're quite clueless.

    (hyperbole alert)
Whenever I think about all the problems in this country and what Dems are fighting for, the first word that always comes to mind is "libido". Is Huckabee out of his mind? He might as well have said the main focus of the Dems is Giraffe. that makes as much sense. He must think that because a few tin-foil hat folks are pushing Theocracy of late that his Bible-Babble will stick somehow.
