Will Democrats follow Republicans in primary and convention calendar changes?

Washington (CNN) - Days after the Republican National Committee made dramatic changes to their next presidential primary calendar, their Democratic rivals say they're moving toward using the same timeline as they've done in the past.

The RNC voted nearly unanimously Friday to condense the 2016 presidential nominating calendar, and they took steps toward moving the date of the next Republican National Convention from late August to June, the earliest either party has held their convention in nearly 70 years.

An official with the Democratic National Committee said they're just beginning their internal process to make any decisions on the primary and convention calendar, and that as of now, their decision-making process is at pretty much the same pace as in previous cycles. The official adds that so far there's been no discussion of altering the timing of their convention from previous cycles.

As the party holding the White House, the Democratic convention would go second after the Republicans. In 2012, the Democrats held their convention the first week of September.

"Republicans are struggling in national elections because they are out of touch, not because of their convention date or their primary calendar.  As long as Republicans continue to oppose and block common sense policies like immigration reform, increasing the minimum wage, and equal treatment for all Americans no matter who they love, Americans will continue to reject them," DNC deputy communications director Lily Adams told CNN.

"The DNC is on track to use a similar timeline and practice – as we have done in the past – to develop the most diverse and inclusive nominating process."

Democrats don't have candidates who say off the wall things like naming three branches of government they want to eliminate and forgetting one of the branches. The RNC is changing up their schedule so the public won't get to witness how idiotic and 1%erish they are.

They will almost certainly do so. It's all about the money. One thing that really hurt the Romney campaign, which the Obama campaign took full advantage of, was the fact that Romney couln't accept RNC money until he was *officially* the nominee. In other words, the Obama campaign was able to spend the summer of 2012 beating up on Romney's near empty war chest, and there was next to nothing Romney could do about it until he officially became the Republcan nominee at the convention.

I don't think the Dems should just follow the "hide from the media" plan of the RNC. They should stay the course and at the same time, expose the inevitable honest moments when the conservative extremists tell people just what they think without filter. Once the theocrats, racists, and misogynists, get spouting, dems can just sit back and enjoy.

    ----------------------
There is no "hide from the media" plan. By the time the convention rolls around, the primaries are done and the presumptive nominee has already been long identified. It's all about the money. Unless you're the sitting President, the nominee cannot accept the party's money until the candidate is officially the party's nominee. Republicans learned that the hard way in 2012.

Both Democrats and Republicans will be in the same boat come 2016. Neither party will have a sitting President as their nominee. So, what's the bid deal? I suspect that Republicans are hedging their bets against Biden running, who as a sitting VP could probably accept the party's money before the convention.
