Anthony Weiner’s Grimm advice

(CNN) – Staten Island Congressman Michael Grimm – who threatened to hurl a reporter off a Capitol Hill balcony earlier this week – has received some unsolicited crisis management advice from a fellow New Yorker who knows a thing or two about life in the glare of an unfriendly media spotlight.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner – aka “Carlos Danger” – offered the advice in an op-ed published Thursday in the New York Daily News.

"I don't want to belabor this one incident, because stuff happens, but I do think – as someone who has had his own share of tension with local media about, ahem, different subjects – I may have something to add to the conversation," said Weiner, a failed Democratic mayoral candidate who resigned from Congress in June 2011 after lying about sending lewd photos and messages to multiple women.

First of all, don't do interviews or public events, Weiner wrote.

"Better yet, if you don't want to talk about your fund-raising scandal, maybe just maybe don't have one to begin with," he added, referencing allegations of campaign finance abuse in the congressman's 2010 campaign.

Grimm threatened a NY1 reporter during an interview after Tuesday's State of the Union address. The two-term GOP congressman said he was anticipating only talking about the President's speech when the reporter slipped in a question about the alleged improprieties. When the reporter asked the question at the end of the interview, Grimm threatened to toss him off a rotunda balcony.

Weiner suggested that, in the future, Grimm should use reporters' questions about the alleged scandal as an opportunity for explanation.

"A few pols under investigation have handled such challenges with real poise. I was not one of them,” Weiner wrote. “I did a terrible job following these rules. I did embarrassing things and made them so much worse by being dishonest about them."

Weiner praised Grimm’s subsequent apology and offer to treat the reporter to lunch.

That was "a classy touch after Rep. Michael Grimm came to his senses," Weiner wrote.

Grimm explained that his emotions got the best of him in an "unfortunate incident.”

Weiner’s final piece of advice to his embattled former colleague?

"You roll with the punches."

so while the justice dept. pursues grimm for campaign finance laws, the first lady runs around the country on the taxpayers dime (millions of dollars) attending campaign fund raising events for the democrats! isn't this illegal use of government resources? shouldn't the democrat party be paying for the expense of this campaign fund raising activity? why is the usa taxpayer, half of which oppose the democrats, paying for this blatantly partisan activity using government resources?

criminal fraud is what this is....

Anthony Weiner.... the Democrat that just keeps on giving. He's a worse media hound than Obama. Didn't think that was possible.

How many times does a national embarrassment of a network touting a cancerous ideology have to apologize before its deaf, dumb, and blind lemmings realize that it, and they, are destroying the country with unsurpassed efficiency?

No. Aside from being First Lady, what actual proof do you have that she's spending "millions of dollars" fund raising at taxpayer expense?

BTW. Did Democrats whine about all of the Tea Party Caucus members going on secret overseas trips? To do what? They really couldn't say. Mumbled something about burnishing bona fides. I think they were fund raising, or meddling in international affairs. Did they travel at taxpayer expense?

Yo just spewing hatred and lies.....

Do you complain when members of the GOP are globe trotting around the world on the tax payer dime?

Why do you and your klan hold this family to a much higher standard than anyone else??

I'll tell you why, it kills you that a black family is the First Family of this country. It kills you even more that President and Mrs. Obama are well loved and people love being around them.

Get a job and leave the trailer park sometime.

  9. The REAL Truth...

@just asking – i guess it is just too much to expect the brain dead lefties in here to actually read the article.... it is talking about the first lady running around the country fund raising for the democrats, not the president. so naswer the questions. who is paying for this political fund rasing junket? the usa taxpayers?? all the secret service? usa taxpayers. the jets and accomdattions? usa taxpayers. she she rakes in millions from the california celebrities and sends the bill to the usa taxpayers.
    ----------------------------------
I guess it's just too much to expect the igorant right wing troll-haters here to actually use their brain and extrapolate (you can goggle that word if you like) the content of a prior post?? Again... for clarity.. they ALL do it, and that includes ALL FLOTUS.
Nancy, Barbara and Laura have all campaigned for Republican candidates, in the same manner as the current FLOTUS. You can look up your own references while spewing the usual vitriol and misinformation.

Why do I sense I clear and present whine running through the posts today in regards to 'taxpayer dollars' being spent for 'campaigning'?
Well, I'll tell you.... the republicants are in a tissy because Dems have Bill Clinton, President Obama, and the lovely First Lady, VP Biden and his beautiful wife... who can ALL raise millions of dollars just by flying over a city, much less stopping and actually making a speech. They are jealous because they have no ex presidents or first ladies or anyone who can do the same (outside certain isolated whacko areas where they will bring wheelbarrows of cash to hear ted cruz spew nonsense, or sarah palin have diarrhea of the mouth).
I'd like to say I'm sorry for this... but I'm not. We have wonderful leaders who connect with the people of America and garner their support and votes with the actions and deeds. The republicants have relegated themselves to gerrymandering, voter suppression, and the ever present whining and pointing and yelling 'No fair'.
In fact.... I'm sure within seconds you will see in this in action....

@just asking and your gripe about FLOTUS doing fundraising (another CNN Ticker article):

From the Wednesday, August 16, 2006 Washington Post article, "First Lady a 'Critical Asset' At Republican Fundraisers"

"Laura Bush is scheduled to headline three events for Republican candidates in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia today, capping a stretch of five fundraisers this week for a first lady who often jokes that she does not much like politics."

All First Ladies do this, so I'm just wondering, just asking, were you also upset by this?

"Donna, where to start with you honey, sigh. Your one who posts ridiculous statements that contradict truth and logic, with a healthy dose of racism, nice. Your among the few that truth and logic simply don't exist. You must be a real hoot at parties. Let me guess, your the life of the party, doesn't say much about your parties. And I'd bet after a few your given a rather wide berth."

"The interview – taped in Los Angeles while the first lady raises campaign cash for Democrats"

"imbeciles on the left can't even read english and understand. no wonder they voted for the dunce in the white house. he makes them feel smart with their iq of 50."

Yes... it is a little known fact that you can only tape something in Los Angeles IF you are there personally. Phone conversations cannot be taped on radio there due to the number of tinfoiled hat republicants clogging the airways in the states in-between. In fact, they cannot do instant replay there either, and when they need to look at a play again, the players actually have to renact it.

If 'Libs' IQ's are 50 that puts you somewhere in the negative exponentials...
    What a rube!?

When was the last time CNN journalists included an article that wasn't set up to elicit reactions from the garbage dump of politics? It is bad enough that just saying gets the reactions he gets; quite frankly the man's comments have no credence or worthiness to be given such a lofty CNN's excellence of commenting victory by his fellow bloggers who will continue to feed him his glory. The man is a troll. For CNN as a major news organization to fall into this same reaction of feeding the dog is unbelievably divisive.

This, coming from the party that gave us Mark Sanford and David Vitter? At least he's not doing it on the taxpayer dime anymore. Oh, and Just Saying? This article is about Anthony Weiner, not the First Lady. Take your ritalin, and try to stay on topic. Another example of the delta-minus intellects on the Right. No wonder we keep winning.

Too many. Fox has a lot of ground to make up. Beck got them off to a good start by admitting his rhetoric was divisive, explaining that he didn't realize just how fragile people were, nor how easily that they could be manipulated.

And the Tea Party alone is scary by itself. With 1% black membership, Tea rallies in Washington DC regularly fling the N- word at politicians of the wrong color. Source: many news reports and video's (dude – we can see you).

With all due respect Fair, at least the left HAS a big tent to work from. Most of the right are still pulling up their diapers after crawling out from under their rocks and wondering why their message doesn't resonate with anyone with an IQ greater than their age.
