Clinton spokesman says tweet was '100% humor'

(CNN) - It was just a joke.

That's what Hillary Clinton's spokesman tells CNN about a tweet from the former Secretary of State that's been re-tweeted more than 53,000 times as of Monday morning.

"It’s so much more fun to watch FOX when it’s someone else being blitzed & sacked! #SuperBowl," Clinton tweeted Sunday evening during FOX's coverage of the Super Bowl.

The tweet from the likely 2016 Democratic presidential contender came just a few hours after President Barack Obama and Fox News Channel host Bill O'Reilly battled in a contentious interview on the FOX broadcast network's pre-Super Bowl show over many issues, including the September 2012 killing of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans in an attack in Benghazi, Libya.

Obama defends against GOP criticism in testy interview

Many Republicans, including some conservative commentators on Fox News,  have criticized Clinton heavily over the attack and its aftermath, which came during her watch as secretary of state.

But Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill told CNN that the tweet was "100% humor."

I guess faux news watchers look up to someone who writes on their hand, and thinks foreign policy experience is being able to see Russia from land within Alaska.
Hillary's humor and intelligence is too much for them. They need it simple and stupid like Palin.

How many stories has CNN alone run on Christie. If not 500 they must be getting close. Who knows how many MSNBC has done, as well, ABC, NBC. Yet! They still have not brought him down but are doing their best.

In context, she was expressing that the deaths themselves were more important and preventing future incidents was more important than the mind set and motivations of the attackers. The Radical Right feels the opposite. In fact the GOP voted to de-fund security at embassies.

@Anonymous-Its not about defending Fox, but having respect for different viewpoints and allowing those viewpoints to be heard. Myself , I choose to watch CNN over Fox and MSNBC. However, I like having the option to see their viewpoints as well. Sounds like some on here want views different from their own to be silenced.

How many stories has the right wing media run on Benghazi, the IRS, yada, yada yada.. and still nothing. The demagogery from Beck, Hannity, and the rest of the loudmouth AM radio crew have been whipping those topics to froth.
When the shoe is on the other foot, the right tends to become very self-righteous, proclaiming witch hunt, Dem targeting, blah, blah, blah.
It's ludicrous, laughable and oh so sad.

So benghazi is humorous to saint Hillary. Personally do not find anything even relatively related to inept leadership and the death of Americans funny.

Of course it is the next setup by the PR press, president of the progressive socialists America and anyone in opposition is of an under class in intelligence and equality of opinion.

Who wants different views to be silenced? You insinuate without substance. Your opinions are not facts.

If you've ever watched either Fox or MSNBC, then you will quickly notice a pattern among most of conservative guests debating with a liberal. They don't shut up and let the other side be heard. Some conservatives like to filibuster and use up all of the time. Some conservative will say their piece, and then shout down their opponent whenever they try to say their piece.

Fox viewpoints ARE being heard even by those who don't care for that type of propaganda right here on CNN's website for all to read. Don't kid yourself: you are criticizing those who don't agree with YOUR opinion.

Which inmates are you referring to? Seems that it's always the other sides inmates that are the problem. NO, what I said was SAD is that how self-righteous the right wing media gets when a Republican gets caught with their hands in the cookie jar. It's a witch hunt.. it's a Dem attack... all the while doing exactly the same thing to the Dems.
And no, I'm not a Dem. I prefer truth and fact.. something both side are short on.

Fox really gets under Obama and Hilary's skin. How embarrassing. One is the president, and one wants to be. They're not made of much if a news organization can ruffle them that much.

You know, i remember watching FOX a while back when Hannity was leading a discussion: you cut to the audience, and his his audience was nodding in agreement. I've seen this duplicated numerous times with FOX anytime they have a group of people they have chosen to drive home the particular point of that day. Anyone who deviates from the script is either forced to apologize or they are never invited back. Now, you were saying about inmates running the asylum?

I think you've maybe missed the point. I doubt anyone feels events past or present in Benghazi are in any way funny. The point was about the lunatic fringe's response to Benghazi by foreign-owned FOX news- and their near constant drum-banging on Benghazi (as some sort of "news"?) might be funny. Sort of like Mr. Guilliani's answer to everything being 9/11.

Your conclusion is a bit of a stretch isn't it? Clinton never that she found it humorous.. you concluded that on your own. And if you want to talk inept leadership and American's deaths, lets discuss the 11 DEAD Americans and some 60 civilians that were killed during 12 Embassy (note: Embassy, not Consulate) attacks that occurred from 2000-2008.
And don't get me started on the 4600 American military and 100,000+ civilian deaths looking for non-existent WMD's in Iraq. And who PAID for that junket?
    The silence is deafening!!

Not true at all... many conservative politicians refuse to go on.. and those facts are announced up front by the shows host(s). Rep so-and-so was invited to be on the show, but were unable .... blah, blah.
Now ask yourself why they refuse to go ??

Very rarely? We're talking about the 5-10pm EST time slot, remember. Conservatives appear all of the time.

I dare you to watch the Chris Matthews show this evening. Michael Steele is a regular panelist. He appears almost every day during the 1st or 2nd segments. Ed Shultz speaks to Republican congress men and women from the Capitol Rotunda on an almost daily basis, and so does Al Sharpton.

Most of the time conservatives have no desire to appear on MSNBC. The hosts extend open invitations to conservative politicians all of the time. They silently decline to return phone calls, much less be interviewed. Do not fault MSNBC because some conservatives know that they will be made to look like fools just by simply opening their mouths.

Case in point, Sen. Rand Paul was a candidate and was given free time to introduce himself and speak. He made the mistake of declaring the Civil Rights Act unconstitutional, that bigotry is a freedom of speech, that store owners should have the right to turn away anyone if they want to without having to give a reason.
