Obama: ‘Of course’ Fox News is unfair

(CNN) – Fox News Channel, the cable giant whose conservative primetime hosts regularly go after President Barack Obama, is “of course” unfair in its attacks, Obama argued in an interview aired on the network Monday.

The sit-down, conducted by Bill O’Reilly, was taped after a live grilling Sunday night in which O’Reilly quizzed the president on health care, the IRS scandal over the targeting of political action groups and the attack at a U.S. diplomatic compound in Libya – all issues conservatives argue were Obama’s fault.

Asked if he was unfair to Obama, the president responded to O'Reilly: "Of course you are, Bill. But I like you anyway.”

“This list of issues you asked about – they’re defined by you guys in a certain way,” Obama continued. “But this is OK. If you want to be president of the United States, then you know you’re going to be subject to criticism,” Obama said, adding he thought the conservative bent has “made Fox News very successful.”

“Here’s what you guys are going to have to figure out: What are you going to do when I’m gone?” Obama asked.

Later, asked if he was the “most liberal president in history,” Obama suggested that Republican President Richard Nixon’s policies could be seen as further to the left.

“When you look at some of my policies, in a lot of ways Richard Nixon was more liberal than I was,” he said, citing the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency during Nixon’s presidency.

Look at foxnews site any day of the week and every political article is negative toward Obama or the Democrats. It's so absurd that they have no credibility. But they, and the GOP, have made a decision to fearmonger and pander to the ignorant, and that works very well for them.

How about Reagan Trickle-Down nonsense utter failure had long term effect, so Iran-contra affairs etc. They know nation is being robbed by insurance thugs, hospitals, pharmacy, doctors on fraud Medicare etc, why didn't they pass any laws that restrict? Tell you this president is a gift to America.

Unfair? No just presenting the other side of the issue to balance out Mr Obama's "unfair" speeches and press conferences.

Way to put those jokers in their place Mr. President. They're able to dish out the hate, but their heads will explode after your comments.

And he of course thinks MSNBC is perfectly fair. Nice logic, I hope that level of thought does not carry itself into other areas of his job.

Who tried to tell me that Fox actually has "fair and balanced" "news programming" during prime time. President Obama once said that he felt that Brett Baier was the most fair of all of the prime time hosts, which is laughable. He began his show last night with a story about Benghazi, and followed that with several more scandal stories. Fox's entire business model is built around one thing: promoting the right wing agenda by tearing down liberals.

  7. Really?

Is this all that CNN got out of the interview? no wonder they are in trouble. Bill asked harder more direct questions which is a real difference then the kid gloves other News organizations usually lob at Obama. you could actually see how guarded Obama was in his body language to have to sit through a real interview.

I will not be surprised to see Pres. Obama's poll numbers go up after his interview with Bill O'Reilly. In fact, I fully expect his job approval to go up 2 points following the hostile interview.

I watched the entire interview and... are you kidding? You ask questions that are "by their nature" unanswerable within the time frame you gave, you cut off the President of the United States like he was some celebrity, and not the leader of our country, and showed a political agenda through your interviewer that, at best showed just how much the Republican Party controls your network, and at worst a pathetic attempt to discredit our leader in front of not only the American people, but the world as a whole. Although, in this day and age, it is impossible to remove the corporate directive from the news that is reported, you should understand that you denigrate our entire country when you choose to push party agenda, and political attack. During a world-wide covered event you could have presented yourselves and your views without embarrassing our nation.

Standard o'really M.O. when speaking "to" the President. Did he conduct these pregame so-called "interviews" with the previous occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and were his tone and demeanor the same as they are with President Obama? It would be interesting to see some video for contrast.

Let's go off on a tangent. You know what I find unfair? Signing up for the ACA and if I have a problem and need to appeal there is no system in place to facilitate that.

Nothing like trying to silence those that don't think like you and won't rubberstamp everything you say. But hey, at least if I like my plan I can keep it. Or maybe not
Obviously, you're talking about Bill O'Reilly constantly interrupting the President as he tried to answer questions.

On another note, I had noticed how O'Reilly's questions consistently were built upon a false premise. In other words, answering the question meant accepting the false premise as fact. Whenever the President tried to point out, or deny, the false premise of the quesiton, then that is when Bill began a filibuster, talking over top of the President.

Fox News is a bubble waiting to pop. Roger Ailes is 73 years old. The median age for Fox viewers is 65-plus for the full day and for prime time.
Oh, and Hillary will leave office in 2024. You do the math.

It's unfair that there is only one cable news outlet that doesn't kiss up to Obama? What was clearly unfair is that BO was blaming all of his lies and scandals on Fox News.

several media studies have concluded that faux news viewers are less informed of current events than people who don't watch the news. Considering that people who don't even watch the news are aware that the so-called Obama "lies and scandals" have been debunked an infinite number of times, the post above serves as proof of the accuracy of those studies.

So pointing out the many lies and using the mans own words against him to prove those lies is unfair? This president is a loon.

Besides his incomplete statement that "you can keep your insurance as long as your policy meets minimum standards, what "lies" and "his own words" can be "used against him"?

when all other reporters can ask him is what is your favorite color,or how many toes do you have it's easy to see why he believes this..

Perhaps if your watched something besides Sesame Street News, you'd see and hear those reporters asking questions. But of course, that wouldn't fit your angry narrative or agenda so you'll just continue to believe the lies vomited 24/7 by unfair and unbalanced.

Heaven forbid The One should have to feel what Republican nominees and hopefuls go through every election cycle, as they appear on CNN, NBC, and NPR to be blindfolded and executed by firing squad.

The ONLY news media he CAN"T totally control, and he can't accept the fact he can't control them.

Nothing about that, is "unfair". Obama is a child who sees nothing wrong with his criminal activity, or his dictatorial methods........so he blames those who DO see those problems, with being "unfair". He is child, who has gone BAD........and that is the real truth.

It seemed like every question that was asked by O'Reilly was based upon a false premise, or a false talking point that is being promoted by the right wing. For example, "Do you think Obamacarew has been the biggest failure of your presidency?" The questions presumes that the ACA is an abject failure.
