Sandra Fluke asks for California Democratic Party endorsement

Washington (CNN) - Sandra Fluke has asked the California Democratic Party for their endorsement in the race for an open 2014 congressional seat, but a spokeswoman for the women's rights activist says Fluke is still on the fence about a bid.

"It is not the same as filing to run or declaring that she is running," said Abigail Gardner, Fluke's spokeswoman, in an email. "It was something she felt she had to do on Friday to keep her options open due to CA Dem Party deadlines."

Gardner defended the move, telling CNN that "if you look at the website and the list of names who have filed for that potential endorsement, there are a lot of names and not everyone has declared or even decided if they will seek the seat."

Fluke, who is vying to represent the wealthy district that covers part of Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, filed for the endorsement on Friday. Party leaders will meet this weekend in Los Angeles to vote on who the party should endorse in the race to replace Rep. Henry Waxman, a 40-year veteran of Congress who announced last week he was retiring.

Shortly after the Waxman announcement, Fluke said in a statement she is "strongly considering running" and will be making her decision "soon."

According to Gardner, Fluke's thinking has not changed since last week and she is still considering the bid.

Fluke rose to political prominence after Rush Limbaugh called the then-Georgetown law student a "slut" and "prostitute" in 2012 for urging a Democratic congressional panel for more coverage of contraceptives in the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama's sweeping health care law.

The slur set off a firestorm and Fluke was quickly catapulted to stardom. Obama called Fluke to express his support for her, and a flood of advertisers pledged to take their business elsewhere because of Limbaugh's comments. It also catapulted Fluke to a speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention in 2012, where she stressed equal pay for women and contraceptive coverage.

The race for the reliably Democratic seat has already drawn a lot of attention from area Democrats. Five other congressional hopefuls have filed for the Democratic Party's endorsement, including former mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel and state Sen. Ted Lieu.

The Washington Post first reported that Fluke was requesting the endorsement.

"Your characterization of libertarianism is laughably off base."

It was a lot closer than I see in the characterizations of the Dems on here. rand paul is your crusading leader of libertarians... did anyone see him twist himself into a pretzel when asked by Wolf Blitzer about his believing in the minimum wage and whether the Federal Government should raise it. The Libertarian answer is a quick and resounding 'No'... his was a nonsensical evasive maneuvering which resulted in the blatent and transparent lie of.... "I have never really thought about it".
    Really?

@The Real Tom, please read up on what libertarianism is before you make such sweeping and misinformed statements. Your characterization of libertarianism is laughably off base. Sadly, that is probably intentional on your part....and you speak of being morally barren. Maybe the government can buy you a mirror so you can take a good look at yourself.
    ----------------------------
I think I agree with you on libertarianism, but I also agree with Big Tom about the neo-libertarians. "Maybe the government can buy you ...." BTW, you should buy yourself a mirror before you make such sweeping statements.

She is standing up to the veiled violence, racism, sexism, and any other ism I forgot in the Tea Party. For shear bravery alone she deserves a shot at supporting Freedom and Women's rights.

In other words, she is standing up to Democrat fabricated strawmen... And then playing poor victim when questioned. Democrats can attack Republicans and conservatives viciously, even their children, and yet the Democrats play the victim card whenver one of their totally unqualified buffoons is put up for office. Yeah, it's that fabricated War of Women or the Attack of the Racists or whatever the next great Democrat fabrication is. Fact is Democrats have no working solutions to problems facing the countyr, just fake wars on fake strawmen, to feed to the low ID voters the Democrats rely on.

Sandra Fluke? The woman who wants free everything, paid for by the taxpayers?

Let me try to wrap my mind around this... You don't want women to choose terminating a pregnancy and you hate all those moochers and takers who are unwanted children... BUT you don't want to chip in a fraction of a cent from your taxes to pay for a woman to avoid getting pregnant in the first place. Wow, that makes perfect sense to me!!!!!

Why is it that the only people the Democrat Party can scrape up to run are people that think the governent should be in the business of giving things away that they take from others?

A neo-libertarian is a term Rudy uses to label someone who disagrees with him but whom he cannot label a republican.

"Shame on Obama for continuing the war in Afghanistan and dragging the US into Libya."

What a load of disingenuous claptrap. Way to spin and ignore important facts, champ. POTUS who enters office with an ongoing war can't just throw up his hands and say "no more!" and order everyone home immediately and it's certainly not Obama's fault that Congress refused to fund necessary intervention in Libya...all while many of them demanded it or demanded even more of it.

Can't go both ways, Tom. Remember the Right's tizzy that "Obama was leading from behind" because he wouldn't go full in on Iran, Libya, Syia and other fun spots? Have you forgotten Mr. McCain's lust for a war in just about every nation? How about the GOP's attempt to end a peaceful solution with Iran by demanding more sanctions? At least under Mr. Obama's actions solid accomplishments were made and far fewer Americans were injured or killed (never mind civilians) than in the disasters of Mr. Bush or Mr. Cheney (not that the Right cares about lives, now) . Which is it? You want war or not?

Indeed...and have no fear of their neverending flow of nonsense somehow stopping...their next argument will go something like this: "And you know what, SCOTUS better not find that it violates Constitutional rights to prevent someone from turning off the life support on a brain dead woman if she's pregnant...otherwise, women all over the place will just start running around finding ways to go brain dead in order to get their abortions."

    ----------------------------------------–
The war with Libya happened just before the war with Syria began. He also thinks that the U.S. has been supplying arms to the rebels in Syria. Never mind the fact that not a week goes when John McCain doesn't criticize Pres. Obama for supplying only humanitarian aid to the refugees. Never mind the fact that Pres. Obama will be visiting the Saudis soon in order to discuss the lack of armed support from the U.S. in the Syrian conflict.

what do you call the use of our air force to kill people?

what obama accomplished was to kill somebody who was working with the usa against aq, throw libya into chaos, with large lawless areas that are now controlled by al quada affiliates that kill our ambassadors at will.
