NYC mayor argues for an equal financial playing field

New York (CNN) - New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio – in his first "State of the City" address – vowed Monday to ask New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the authority to raise the minimum wage in all five boroughs and raise taxes on the wealthy.

New York City's 109th mayor also said he would expand affordable housing to thousands of lower income families, expand school programs and make municipal ID cards available to thousands of undocumented immigrants.

House Republicans to demand condition for raising debt limit

Update 7:19 p.m. ET, 2/10/2014

Washington (CNN) - House Republicans will demand a condition in return for raising the debt limit, according lawmakers following a closed-door GOP meeting on Monday.

The vote to raise the government’s borrowing authority, which is necessary to pay its bills, could come as early as Wednesday but nothing is scheduled yet.

Hobby Lobby asks Supreme Court for exemption to Obamacare mandate

(CNN) –Hobby Lobby asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday for an exemption to the requirement under the Affordable Care Act that certain for-profit corporations provide contraception coverage to their workers.

Ahead of oral arguments next month, the craft store giant is seeking exclusion on religious grounds from the health care law's requirements, maintaining that some contraceptive products, like the morning-after pill, equate to abortion.

Colorado Poll: Pot getting more support, but majority say it's harmful to state's image

(CNN) - Slightly more Colorado voters support the state's new recreational marijuana law now than six months ago, according to a new Quinnipiac University survey.

The new poll also indicates that a slim majority consider the law as harmful to the state's image.

As investigation moves forward, high-profile week ahead for Christie

Washington (CNN) - From Chicago, to the nation's capital, to Port Monmouth, New Jersey, it will be a high-profile week for Gov. Chris Christie, including at least two events where he will face questions.

It is a dual purpose trip to Chicago on Tuesday, as Christie begins the process of trying to repair damage to his national profile. He'll raise money for the Republican Governors Association like his previous RGA trips: behind closed doors and out of the public eye.

Documents reveal Hillary Clinton’s private reaction to her husband's cheating scandal with Monica Lewinsky

Washington (CNN) – Hillary Clinton told a close friend that Monica Lewinsky was a "narcissistic loony toon," and also discussed in detail why she decided to forgive her husband for having an affair with the White House intern, according to documents penned by Diane Blair, a close friend and longtime confidant to the former first lady.

The contents of the documents, which are part of Blair’s papers housed at the University of Arkansas, were first reported by the Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website that posted the story late on Sunday night.

Obama and Hollande: A strong alliance

(CNN) – A day ahead of a state dinner at the White House welcoming French President, President Barack Obama and Francois Hollande released an op-ed Monday describing the strong resurgence between the two countries.

“A decade ago, few would have imagined our two countries working so closely together in so many ways. But in recent years our alliance has transformed,” the two presidents wrote in the Washington Post piece.

The pair pointed to the joint efforts in discussions with Iran, preventing the country from obtaining a nuclear weapon, as well as in Syria, using their “credible threat of force” to dispose of Syria’s chemical weapons.
