U.S. expands legal benefits, services for same-sex marriages

(CNN) - In a major milestone for gay rights, the U.S. government on Monday expanded recognition of same-sex marriages in federal legal matters, including bankruptcies, prison visits and survivor benefits.

"It is the (Justice Department's) policy to recognize lawful same-sex marriages as broadly as possible, to ensure equal treatment for all members of society regardless of sexual orientation," Attorney General Eric Holder said in a memo to all employees.

How many billions is this going to cost US taxpayers? Doesn't the spending of money require the approval of the House?

Not where the law is already written and this is merely recognizing that they must be interpreted and applied equally to these marriages. Accept the correct answer or not, but I did just give it to you.

obama/hillary/kerry are creating as much smoke as possible to get the talk off YOU CAN KEEP YOUR INSURANCE, OBAMACARE WILL COSTS US 2,500,000 JOBS-and hear this-obamanuts are now spinning this by saying the $300 or $400 per month in health insurance is why people are working???? now they don't have to work and the government will pay it for them so 'THEY CAN START A NEW BUSINESS". No money, working a job they don't want so they can pay for their insurance, quitting their job now so the government will pay so –and with that mindset-they can start a new business. wow–obamanuts would be funny if it wasn't for the fact obamanuts are selling out our country.

The easy fix for both liberals and conservatives is to get rid of marriage completely. No more marriage no more fighting.

I'm surprised that you're not upset about Pres. Obama not following the law of the land, by enforcing DOMA.

Show how this is going to cost US taxpayers before you try the limp line of reasoning that this is the sole province of the least effective House in living memory. I guess equality always has a monetary value to a Conservative. Pathetic.

So I just read that the US is planning a possible drone strike on an American who is now with Al Qaida overseas and is plotting a strike. How do you feel about that?

How do you feel about an American who is plotting with others to kill as many fo us as possible? Frankly, I have no more problem offing him than I would a rabid dog. Unlike the dog, he made his choice, so I'll sleep very well after word gets out he's parting with his 70 virgins.

This is just more lawlessness by the Obama administration. Will the billions to pay for this come from our veterans benefits that they cut?

While Al Qaeda may be the republican political ideal, they are the ones who gave us 9-11-2001, and are the the enemy of the US. Most people would think that an enemy combatant is exactly that, and should be dealt with accordingly.

Let me ask you this: if you can prevent a person who has betrayed his country from hurting and possibly maiming you and your neighbors, would you really have any qualms about him going to meet his maker?

    Sniffit,
Wonderful dodge. I find it amazing that the liberals on here would actually support that. This is the same govt that told us about WMD, right? Now, just because your guy is in office you're totally cool with abandoning due process. Not only that, it shows that you actually trust what the govt is telling you. All of the sudden, with Bush out of the picture you actually believe that this American isn't worthy of our laws any longer because of "information" that he his plotting against us. How can you remain consistent and talk about Bush and WMD's not being found yet be totally fine with this?

LOL. If it was 2006 and Snowden pulled his little stunt, you'd have been calling for his detention in GITMO and summary execution. Nobody's fooled.

I have qualms big time in trusting anything our govt tells us, especially when it comes to foreign intervention and the war on terror. Why should I trust that we should abandon due process based on "information"? He is an American and just because the govt thinks he might be plotting does not mean we should abandon our principles.

Why do wingnuts think it is OK to give big tax breaks to big oil, tax cuts to billionaires, shut down the government at a cost of $24 billion? But to give all married couples the same tax rate is just to costly. All they all that dense?
