GOP gubernatorial candidate will attend Christie event in Chicago

Updated 3:23 p.m. ET

Chicago (CNN) - Illinois gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady will attend Gov. Chris Christie's only public event Tuesday with the Economic Club of Chicago, Brady's campaign manager Dan Egler told CNN.

Brady is one of several Republican candidates running for the chance to challenge incumbent Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn this year.

Brady was Quinn's GOP opponent in the last gubernatorial race, and Christie helped Brady in that campaign.

This comes as the Democratic National Committee and Democratic outside groups are pushing the notion of Christie as a pariah, since there were no public appearances with Republicans in Christie's trips to Florida last month and Texas last week.

The New Jersey governor, whose administration is embroiled in allegations of abuse of power and misuse of Superstorm Sandy relief funds, has a busy travel schedule for his second job as chairman of the Republican Governors Association.

Brady will be in a large crowd of what is expected to be more than a thousand people at the Economic Club event.

When reports emerged over the weekend that Republican candidates in Illinois weren't planning to appear with Christie, the RGA pointed out there were never any plans to make joint appearances because the RGA doesn't get involved in competitive primaries.

The RGA also says the private events in Chicago, as well as the events in Texas last week, are one-on-one meetings and are not designed to included candidates.

The GOP is defending 22 of the 36 gubernatorial seats up for grabs this year, and Illinois is one where Republicans hope to play offense, as Quinn is considered a vulnerable Democrat.

CNN Political Editor Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

    Oh, that's nice. If they didn't have all those gerrymandered red districts, there's a REAL chance that they might lose all 21 of those gubernatorial seats...

    Democrats have been destroying Illinois for a very loooong time. Chicago and Illinoisare some of the most corrupt places in the country. The place is probably beyond saving and will have to go the way of Detroit, the end result of too many years of Demorcats running the show.

    Attending closed door events with Christie isn't the problem. It's the being seen in public part that's an issue.

    If the pattern holds true, I'm sure Democrat Gov. Pat Quinn will be behind bars soon. They have entire prisons in Illinois with nothing but corrupt and criminal Democrats being incarcerated there. The Democrat Party has overtaken the mafia as the largest ongoing criminal enterprise in this country.

    Christie had a record breaking, fund raising month in January for the RGA. Why is that conservative donors always seem to reward the bad boy, tough guy types? If you do something honest and decent, they seem to cut you off at the knees.

    @just saying – and if all of the democrat gerrymandered districts get removed, there will be almost no black representatives in the democrat party. is that what you are demanding? can't you leftists be honest for once in your life? democrats created gerrymandering for this purpose! now all you do is whine about it.

    As a registered independent (not a leftie as you imply) I could care less. I'm BOTH parties WORST NIGHTMARE.. I deal in truth and facts.. that's all I care about, from either side. The lack of respect for the office of President and the rw troll hating-posting on the POTUS is obscene and disgusting. Same for some of the utterly commentary on many from the GOP. Many have nothing of interest to say (most of them here happen to be on the right.. urself, donna, fair, Tim I and Ricky for example) and have descended into meaningless and juvenile name calling. The problem is you can't handle the truth or refuse to accept facts. Yes, BOTH sides gerrmander.. BOTH sides are guilty.. and I call it as the facts present themselves.

    @Sniffit,
    Gerrymandering is done by both parties. It's time for you to stop the false narrative. I lived in California and it was literally talked about all the time. And if you think the "commission" was on the up and up then I have a bridge to sell you. Both do it. Both are drunk with power. Period. In fact, you're best lady, Nancy Pelosi, did everything she could to gerrymander and fought it every step of the way. Just use the googlez and you can see for yourself how bad it was. I'm sure you'll have some great retort but the fact is that both parties do it.

    Uh, yea... Donna, I know you are absolutely nothing but partisan and you usually stay away from the christie posts as it is a little hard to spin the biggest (real) scandal in quite some time around to be about Dems. I see why now...
    (P.S. Chicago is IN Illinois, so saying they are some of the ... never mind. Suffice to say- they are not separate places).
    However, to 'go the way' of Detroit is a little cryptic, as first the republicants would have to win power there, then they would have to appoint an all powerful Emporer, then they would have to throw away the entire Democratic form of government and fire all the duly elected officials, then they would have to sell the assetts of the city to the highest bidder (actually the bidder of their choice), they they would have to pocket their cut, then there would be an investigation...
    Have you read up on what is happening in Michigan? What happens when republicants take over (and I do mean 'take over' as many citiies in Michigan are basically being ursurped by little republicant appointed Czars).
    But then again, that is the plan, isn't it? (minus the investigations part)

    I live in Michigan, and I can tell you the Snyder election ads make me want to vomit. To hear them we're the greatest state in the union, rich with surplus and jobs galore, I've been here my entire life and that's never been true. He was promised Koch brothers financing for this election, he spent a lot himself last time, and quickly signed right to work. He had made time a point that he would not sign that into law, now he calls it tough responsible decisions. Just like your decision to take Koch brothers money too huh?

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    In other words, when a Dem commits a crime, the party's over and they go to jail. When a rethug commits a crime, they're feted by their party, elected to higher office and become legends to be celebrated by their apologists who then blame the dems and the so-called "liburl" media for those crimes. Thanks for reminding everyone reading this of that fact! It really should be repeated often.

    I don't want to make his/her head explode with fact but @just saying "democrats created gerrymandering for this purpose!". The concept was invented in 1812 by the Democratic-Republicans to outmaneuver the Federalist party. Why are facts such a difficult concept for some conservatives?

    But, Republicans do not redraw districts to reflect population shifts. The populations of districts within a given state can vary by as much a factor of 100 or more. I think Democrats at least pretend to follow population shifts. Conservatives? LOL

    "@Sniffit,
    Gerrymandering is done by both parties. It's time for you to stop the false narrative. "

    What false narrative? The GOP controlled more state governments after the 2010 census and was able to gerrymander itself into a very safe hold over the House. There's no denying that. It's a fact. Moreover, there's no denying that they were able to do so to the extent that they held onto control over the House despite receiving 1.3M less votes than the Dems. That's also an objective fact. Take it however you want from there. Me, I personally think it's evidence that the gerrymandering (and I don't give a crap which party in terms of this analysis) is out of control and needs to be better limited in some fashion. Why? Well...the third thing that there's no denying is that the House was intended and specifically designed by the founding fathers to be the chamber of Congress that is most responsive to majority rule and popular demands (the Senate being the check and balance on that). One might very well argue, with a completely straight face and many in agreement, that gerrymandering that results in flipping the entire design of Congress on its head by making the House more responsive to minority rule, is one of the biggest reason we're watching such a mess take place in DC right now. Again, this argument has nothing to do with partisan politics. It is a structural argument and I've always said so.

    Yack, Yack, Yack.
    The Libs are trying to limit Christi in case he is the nominee for president. They did the same to Sarah Palin. They think their way is best for the country. The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions. The latest big idea is Obama Care. Supposed to fix Health Care for all time. It has turned out to be like opening Pandora's Box and running right into Murphy's Law.

    Gerrymandering. In case some of you didn't know, the voting districts are re-drawn every 10 years after the Census to make them equal in population. And they have to be approved by the Justice dept. Go take a civics class!

    About Michigan/Detroit. The unemployment in Michigan was about as bad as Detroit so the people finally saw the light. Jobs were leaving the state because of Unions. Kinda like Obama Care. Once again Obama has delayed another provision of the law until 2016. Maybe they will get it straightened out my 2116!
