At Dem retreat, Biden slams divided GOP

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden jabbed Republicans Friday over factions within the GOP, while also rallying members of his caucus to "aggressively push" the Democratic agenda ahead of this year's midterm elections.

"There isn't a Republican Party. I wish there were. I wish there was a Republican Party. I wish there was one person you could sit across the table from, make a deal, make a compromise, and know when you got up from that table it was done," Biden said Friday morning at the House Democrats' issues conference on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

"All you had to do was look at the response to the State of the Union,” he added. “What were there, three or four?"

Is Joe Biden ready for 2016?

Democrats need to pick up 17 seats to regain the majority in the House. Most political handicappers say that with such a narrow list of competitive congressional districts this year, the odds are long that they can reach that goal.

Democrats appeared stronger in the poll last autumn during the government shutdown, which Americans largely blamed on congressional Republicans. But the botched rollout of a key component of President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act has essentially evened the score with the GOP.

Biden acknowledged the political hurdle Obamacare could cause Democrats this year, but insisted a majority of Americans want to see the health care law stay in place.

The vice president said the American people "are already where we want them to be" on the big issues, rattling off poll numbers favoring Democrats on marriage equality, women's issues and the economy.

"Between now and November is three political lifetimes. A lot's going to happen. A lot can change," he said. "Keep your eye on the ball. The American people are where we are."

Biden says presidential decision will come next summer

Pivoting to the deal reached on Capitol Hill earlier this week raising debt ceiling, Biden warned that GOP pick-ups in House and Senate would mean continued fights over fiscal matters.

Biden's remarks focused largely on America's pivotal spot in the world, attributing the United States' robust international standing to a strong middle class. He cautioned, however, of a closing opportunity gap for citizens hoping to join the middle class.

"They talk about the fact that we shouldn't be talking about income inequality,” the vice president said. “I think it would be a sin if we didn't' talk about income inequality. … The single greatest obligation we have as a party is to widen that aperture so more people can get in and stay in."

Decoding Biden's words: If Hillary runs, he won't

Biden was also scheduled to host a closed press question and answer session with House Democrats on Friday.

President Obama will also meet with the House Democrats Friday morning before departing to California for a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah.

You got that right Joe! As you've said before, "this isn't your father's Republican Party." These "republicans" in Congress are fiscal terrorists. They've shown that they're willing to shut down the government and take us to the brink on defaulting on our debts. Where are the responsible republicans? The only reason they raised the debt ceiling is because it's an election year. If it weren't, they would have held the country hostage again.

When they need a pep talk they like to roll Joe Biden out of bed for some colorful language. Yet clearly his best days are behind him and his predictions.

Hey Joe speaking of Taliban tactics, do you guys in the Democrat party really think you can Tax and Spend the country to death? I hope not since you once again raised the debt level to a record level.

They may be fractured but one thing they aren't divided on is their hatred of this POTUS and their agenda to do everything in their power to make him fail. On that they are united.

Better than the GOP's cut-taxes-and-spend economics don't you think? All the Right has done is set up the conditions to bankrupt America.

One thing is certain......there IS only one party of Democrats.......and every last one of them is subversive to America, and bent on establishing a socialist dictatorship in America.

Democrat candidates can ask their GOP opponents what there plan is to tackle any of the issues our country is facing and the only response they'll get is avoidance of the question followed by lies about Obamacare killing jobs... Truth is, the GOP is completely clueless and that is evidenced by the unwavering belief that trickle-down economics is a success.

Abbey – Taliban tactics is all the GOBagger party has to offer their followers. Republicans have accomplished nothing, have nothing to run on, but their base has set the bar so low, it is on the ground so elected republicans can roll over it.

The similarities to the Taliban of the Tea Party cannot be overlooked:
    – religious fervor and intolerance of outside or non-extreme religion
    – attempts to instill moral laws to establish a state religion in the end, ignoring other faiths
    – looking at women as second class so that they can be told what to do with their bodies and how to behave
    – espousing violence at rallies and in speeches threatening to overthrow the popular secular government
    – carrying guns and shooting them in the air to intimidate those with whom they disagree
    – intolerance of racial differences
    – intolerance of private behavior not in line with the one religion i.e. anti-gay, etc.
    – looking to reduce education by removing subjects not in line with the one religion

The Republican Party needs more than an overhaul; it needs to a complete reformation as it has become a party. It claims to be the party of "Christian" and "family" values but acts in a manner inconsistent with Christianity or family values as it seeks to dismantle the programs that protect those with the least to benefit those with the most. The party that wants to shift the burdens of society on those who have the least. It is a party without compassion, a party that advocates war on a regular basis, a party that would create a two-class society of rich and poor. The party denigrates minorities and seeks to suppress the votes of minorities. The party denigrates women and seeks to control their bodies. The party that complains about big government and yet wants to control people's reproductive choices. This is a party that adheres to a failed ideology that has been rejected by most Americans.

"There isn't a Republican Party. I wish there were. I wish there was a Republican Party."

Oh, there IS a Republican Party. Make no mistake in thinking otherwise. What it is now is a representation of a country filled with people who are frightened of their own shadows. That this is exactly what the GOP has been striving for these past few decades only makes the realization that much more enlightening to those of us who have watched in fascinated bewilderment to what has become of this party and its leadership. Control. Fear. Power. They're pumped and their ready to go. And, yes. They hold the winning hand for as long as there are those willing to continue to give them the power and the control that they've obtained thus far.

Strange, I had no idea that the Right had made an exhaustive study of Taliban taxation policies. I somehow doubt that even they would welch on their obligations to pay what they agreed to like the Right insists on doing every year. Tell me, how does it feel to play the same game with the same outcome of losing each time, and without even dealing with the original problem? its really sad when you lag behind the Taliban in terms of being treating issues seriously.
