At Dem retreat, Biden slams divided GOP

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden jabbed Republicans Friday over factions within the GOP, while also rallying members of his caucus to "aggressively push" the Democratic agenda ahead of this year's midterm elections.

"There isn't a Republican Party. I wish there were. I wish there was a Republican Party. I wish there was one person you could sit across the table from, make a deal, make a compromise, and know when you got up from that table it was done," Biden said Friday morning at the House Democrats' issues conference on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

"All you had to do was look at the response to the State of the Union,” he added. “What were there, three or four?"

Is Joe Biden ready for 2016?

Democrats need to pick up 17 seats to regain the majority in the House. Most political handicappers say that with such a narrow list of competitive congressional districts this year, the odds are long that they can reach that goal.

Democrats appeared stronger in the poll last autumn during the government shutdown, which Americans largely blamed on congressional Republicans. But the botched rollout of a key component of President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act has essentially evened the score with the GOP.

Biden acknowledged the political hurdle Obamacare could cause Democrats this year, but insisted a majority of Americans want to see the health care law stay in place.

The vice president said the American people "are already where we want them to be" on the big issues, rattling off poll numbers favoring Democrats on marriage equality, women's issues and the economy.

"Between now and November is three political lifetimes. A lot's going to happen. A lot can change," he said. "Keep your eye on the ball. The American people are where we are."

Biden says presidential decision will come next summer

Pivoting to the deal reached on Capitol Hill earlier this week raising debt ceiling, Biden warned that GOP pick-ups in House and Senate would mean continued fights over fiscal matters.

Biden's remarks focused largely on America's pivotal spot in the world, attributing the United States' robust international standing to a strong middle class. He cautioned, however, of a closing opportunity gap for citizens hoping to join the middle class.

"They talk about the fact that we shouldn't be talking about income inequality,” the vice president said. “I think it would be a sin if we didn't' talk about income inequality. … The single greatest obligation we have as a party is to widen that aperture so more people can get in and stay in."

Decoding Biden's words: If Hillary runs, he won't

Biden was also scheduled to host a closed press question and answer session with House Democrats on Friday.

President Obama will also meet with the House Democrats Friday morning before departing to California for a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah.

"while also rallying members of his caucus to "aggressively push" the Democratic agenda"....forget the good of the nation or the people, I guess party agenda is most important.

Just more proof that Dems do NOT want more than 2 parties. They want one party so they can whine and cry all day long and suck their thumbs until they get their way. While many Americans want more parties in the system so more people are represented, the Dems want there to be no other party...but they know there will always be at least 2 so they have to try to talk it down enough so no splits occur that would cause a 3rd party to rise up. Just another example of how Dems want to be Dictators.

So true. The scale of American politics needs a drastic leftward move. There either needs to be a third party that is truly socialist / green / liberal or the Democratic party needs to fill that gap and not pretend to be a leftist party while it is more of a centrist party. And then the "Republican Party" needs to leave the teabaggers and become centrist. The teabaggers can form an independent fourth party of right wingers.

At least the Dems are trying to do something for the all the people as opposed to the GOP doing something for the 1% or the Tea Party doing something for the gun-totting extreme Christian sub-sect.

They may be divided now, but they'll pull it together. All they have to do is find something they all can hate, and do so vehemently.

Hey Biden, there's really no Democratic party either. Both parties have morphed into something unrecognizable from even a decade ago. Both parties should change their name.

I think it should be Biden/Clinton in 2016. Americans are stupid enough to elect that.

The Republic0n and the Teabagger Party's are the Party's of NOBODY. Nobody knows what the hell is going on. They have corruption, obstruction, racism, hatred and everyone says they are the Party's of NO...lol The crazy thing about those two Party's is they have absolutely no good plans for America, they talk a lot about what they would do if in charge, but you will NEVER hear them mention what those plans are. Obstruct, Obstruct and then for good measure they Obstruct some more. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice huh????

If the Democratic agenda is so great, then why do we still need stimulus for the economy? Why do we still need a jobs bill? Why do we keep delaying the components of Obamacare? If it's great why aren't we in a hurry to get it all established immediately? I'm not for a minute suggesting that there is a great Republican agenda out there. I am merely stating that the current agenda is failing.

For those of the GOP I know the truth hurts and you feel the need to slam Biden so go ahead it only shows just how right he is. I left your party about two and half years ago and have come to know I made the RIGHT choice because I care about America and my fellow human beings. OK. time to slam me and that is also proof of Biden's words.

Dave, where exactly do tax payers pay for abortions?? I'm not sure where you're living but in my state, they stopped that 20 years ago. While abortions are allowed, the only tax payers funding them are the ones getting them or the guy that knocked them up. Where do you people get this crap from??

You mean like reducing military benefits while giving illegal aliens government benefits? Like cancelling middle class healthcare insurance so they can raise the cost and reduce the benefits? Like taxing small businesses out of existence? Like having a jobs czar like Jeff Immelt who ships jobs out of the country instead of creating them(GE)?

Gary Downey: Your party's of NO have way to many idiots to list. Be honest with you, you hate Joe Biden cause he speaks the truth and we all know the Republc0ns and Teabaggers can't stand hearing the truth. I'll be honest with you, Joe Biden would be elected President before and nitwit your Party's can scrape off the floor of the outhouse. You have absolutely no one who can beat him. I will for one being voting for Hillary and we all know you can't beat her. So quit your crying and accept that your out of touch with the rest of America, by about 60 years. All you sharecroppers think about is slavery all over again. Get a life!!!!!!
